Sweet Pea// Unspoken Feelings
Summary: You’re really excited for a date, but Sweet Pea’s comment about it makes you worry. You cancel, and Toni doesn’t appreciate Sweet Pea’s rudeness.
A/N: I finally wrote it! It’s not my best work, but I loved the idea.
A/N/N: Let’s also pretend this takes place before Toni started living with Cheryl.
Walking through the front door of Toni’s trailer, not even bothering to knock, you immediately look through the room.
You see Sweet Pea sitting on the couch, and as you move your gaze through the open space, you see Fangs and Toni in the kitchen. From the looks of it, they were making popcorn.
“Hey guys!” you say with an excited tint in your voice.
You get a cluster of hello’s, before you head to the couch to sit by Pea.
Toni and Fangs enter the room, a bowl of popcorn in Fangs’ hands.
“I didn’t know it took two people to make popcorn,” you joke, reaching for a piece.
“It does when you have a control freak with you,” Toni answers, sending a playful glare to Fangs as she sits in a chair next to the couch.
“You never put enough butter on it, though,” Fangs responds with a whine, before sitting down as well.
You giggle before turning to look at Sweet Pea, who’s staring off into the distance, taking a swig from the bottle of coke gripped in his massive hands.
The two of you never quite got along. It began as what you thought was playful messing around, but it became something much different.
You couldn’t think of a time he was ever actually nice to you, and that hurt. It was the just small comments he made that got to you the most. You never knew if he actually hated you, or he just didn’t know how to act in a friendship. He wasn’t like that with any of his other friends, though.
You look to Toni, knowing she’s the only one in the room who will really care about what you’re about to say.
“Brian asked me on a date this morning,” you say, not knowing how else to introduce the topic.
“Really?!” she asks, excitement evident in her voice.
You feel both Fangs’ and Sweet Pea’s eyes on you as you talk.
“Yeah! He’s taking me to Pop’s at 6:30,” you answer. You were clearly excited, which makes Sweet Pea’s next comment even more hurtful.
“Why would be take you out?” you hear the deep voice beside you ask.
“Sweet Pea!” Toni growls, her eyes wide.
You weren’t sure what to say to that, so you just shifted uncomfortably
“Anyways,” you start, “I should get going. I have to get ready for the date, huh,” you finish, it ending as more of a question.
“Y/N, you just got here. You’ve still got a few more hours left to kill. I’m sure Sweet Pea’s done with his tantrum,” Toni pleads, her eyes so gentle that they almost convince you to stay. Almost.
“No, no. I really should get ready. I don’t even know what I’m going to wear!” you say with a forced chuckle. That was a lie, though. You were so excited when he asked that you rushed home and planned everything out. But Sweet Pea didn’t need to know that.
“Alright, bye Y/N/N,” Toni says, standing for a hug.
You return the gesture, before heading to the door, but not leaving before you hear very different words spoken behind you.
A “see ya’ later, Y/N” and a “finally” erupt behind you. You obviously know who said them, so you decide to not spend the time to turn around.
“What the hell was that, Pea?!” Toni asks, right when the door latches behind Y/N.
“What was what?” I respond. Of course I know what she’s talking about. I’m not stupid.
“You know what! Y/N’s been nothing but nice to you since the day we became friends. Is it too much to give her a simple ‘congrats’?”
“I don’t need a lecture from you, Toni,” I answer. I really don’t. I know what I said was wrong, but it was second nature to defend my feelings with anger. Besides, Y/N’s strong. She couldn’t have been offended by that.
I walk away before I can hear anymore about it from Toni. I can still hear her talking to Fangs about the whole ordeal, but I could care less.
I pull out my phone right when I sit down on my bed. Going right to the number Brian gave me, I click on it.
After a few rings, he picks up.
“Hey, Brian. I feel really bad about this, but I have to cancel on tonight,” you say.
“Oh, alright. Is everything ok?” he asks.
“Oh yeah- I just don’t feel too good. Wouldn’t want to throw up on our date,” I laugh. That’s so gross. Why would you even say that, Y/N?
He laughs back, before we conclude the uncomfortable phone call.
I lay back onto the bed, my mind crashing with thoughts like tidal waves in my brain.
Time to spend the rest of the night alone, rather than with the 2nd best guy I’ve ever met.
As you walk into the grocery store, now in the most comfortable clothes you own, you head straight towards the ice cream isle. You were on a mission.
You approach the isle, now trying to decide on which one to grab.
As you are making this crucial decision, you hear an all-to-familiar voice from behind you.
“Y/N?” Toni asks in surprise.
“Oh, hey. What are you doing here?” you try to ask casually as you turn around. It was 7:00 pm, meaning you should still be on your date. If you had actually gone on said date.
“I could ask the same question. Shouldn’t you be with Brian?”
“I actually cancelled on him,” you say. You might as well get that out of the way.
“Why?” she asks, concern lacing her voice.
“Sweet Pea was right. Why would he ask me out?”
“What? You listened to that idiot? C’mon, Y/N, you’re better than that,”
“Am I?” you ask. You’re now a little closer to her, as a step of precaution. You didn’t need the whole store knowing about this.
“Yes, Y/N. Much, much better than that. You know he doesn’t mean the stuff he says. He’s just jealous,” Toni answers. Her eyes look so sincere that it’s hard to look anywhere else.
“Of Brian! Why else would he say the stuff he says to you?”
“‘Cuz he hates me? I don’t know,” you answer. Your mind was now racing, and so was your heart.
“How could he hate you? Y/N, you have to talk to him,”
“You’re right, thanks, T,” you say with a small smile. You forget about the ice cream, as you head over to his home.
You knock on the door, your heart nearly beating hard enough to pop out of your chest. As you put your hand down, you realize that you look a mess, which makes your heart speed up. You didn’t want to confess your love to him looking like this.
You have no more time to think, however, as the door opens. You’re met with the sight of Sweet Pea.
“Hi,” you say, any of the confidence you could’ve possibly had leaving your body.
“Just couldn’t get enough of me, huh? Aren’t you supposed to be on a date?” he asks. He takes your silence as an answer in itself, as he moves to the side to let you in through the doorway.
“I cancelled on him,” you say, walking further into his living room.
“Why’s that?” he asks, following your steps.
“Why do you think?” you ask, turning around to face him.
“Y/N, I’m sorry. I-“ you cut him off.
“I’m not here for an apology, Pea. I wanted to tell you that I really like you. And it hurts like hell when you talk like that to me. What did I do to you to make you hate me so much?” you ask. You semi-knew the answer due to your previous conversation with Toni, but you needed to hear it from him.
“I like you too, Y/N. A lot. And that’s why I’ve been such a jackass. I don’t hate you, how could I? I’m sorry that I made it seem like that, though,” he says as his eyes meet yours.
“You’re not really good at showing that,” you respond before taking a few steps closer. He soon does the same.
“You’re right, I’m not. I can make it up to you, though,” he says, a smirk crawling onto his face.
“Can you?” you ask, a similar look on your face.
He leans in to kiss you, and you do the same.
Maybe he is pretty good at showing it.
