I wrestled with the anatomy of this sketch for ages and then I called it good enough. Anyway, I'm trying to say nice things about my art, so I like the colour palette, I guess :P

Draco wasn’t a stranger to sharing changing rooms with other men. He’d done it most of his school life.

However, nothing could have prepared him for the sight of Potter wearing only a towel to protect his modesty.

“Alright there, Malfoy?”

Draco and Harry Malfoy: Fun and interesting. I like the idea of Harry being so averse to his public image he consciously distances himself from the Potter name. It would be a fascinating direction for Harry’s character, whether it was a split second decision resulting from a breakdown over the press or something long deliberated, showing he has really accepted and forgiven Draco in all ways. Has a somewhat novel edge.

Harry and Draco Potter: This one is common enough. I find it bland. Ohh Draco hates his family and doesn’t want to be associated anymore. I’m generally not a fan of Draco Potter because that’s a read you’ll find in sad sop redeemed!Malfoy works, which I don’t tend to like very much. In my view, if he was redeemed he’d still be prideful for belonging to the Malfoy family, even if it meant he had to clear the name himself. To stop being a Malfoy would be to run away from his past, especially so if he appropriated the Potters’ perfect reputation in its place. 

I consider Draco’s family pride and filial piety to be central to his character, without which he’d difficult to recognize as himself. Not that it can’t be done. But Draco Potter sands his edges too much for me, in most cases. And it can feel cowardly. 

Draco and Harry Black: This would be a funny thing for them to do. Symbolic of their new life together taking on a shared family name. They both have to give up something for it. I like the idea. Romantic. Clean slate. 

I don’t have too much to say about this because I have never seen a fic where it happens. But I’m interested in the idea.

Draco and Harry Potter-Malfoy: This is probably the most typical name scheme I see in fanwork. Demonstrative of them both accepting each other into their lives but Malfoy is still second place to Potter (and also the uke). I like this more than Draco Potter, but I don’t love it. It usually isn’t very notable. Somewhat uninspired. 

Draco and Harry Malfoy-Potter. I like this a lot more than Potter-Malfoy. It makes more sense because Malfoy comes first alphabetically, and I also gel with the idea because my headcanon has Draco as the seme. They both take on a piece of each other, but Draco remains Malfoy first, and Harry can find relief at no longer having to live up to the ideal of himself as Harry Potter by quite literally no longer being Harry Potter. Sticks it to the press a bit. I think this is a good choice for them. 

Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter (no change):

Probably my favorite of all their married names, if only because I really, really like when they continue to call each other “Malfoy” and “Potter” well into their adult years. Them changing anything jeopardizes that. I want them on the altar saying I do and snogging and still calling each other by their last names. It’s funny and it’s *Their Thing.* What attracts me to the D/H ship the most is their mutual enmity—I like when they fight and argue all the time, especially when they’re also in love. It’s fun for them. 

Draco Potter and Harry Malfoy: Okay, I have never seen anyone do this. However I think it’s kind of fun. They can still call each other by their last names and giggle about it bc they switched them out. Very much a true love and dedication bit + it’s a little stupid. They make each other a little stupid. You could never say they aren’t mad for each other, though what “mad” exactly means in this context is up for debate. 

The only thing I dislike about this is it runs into the issue where I just don’t see Draco sacrificing the Malfoy name lightly. It would take a decent amount of character work for me to find it believable for him, if it wasn’t written as part of a comedy. 

Draco Malfoy-Potter and Harry Potter-Malfoy: They both include each other but remain individual. It’s cute. It works for them. Might get mildly confusing to refer to them as a unit, but I don’t get the impression that they want to make things easy. Strong choice. 

Draco Potter-Malfoy and Harry Malfoy-Potter: This one is just kind of weird. Of course, I like Draco and Harry because they are weird bastards. It’s stupid in a funny way, which is one of my favorite hallmarks of their relationship. I can see them doing this after having a really dumb argument and ending on “Bet you won’t.” “No I bet you won’t!” “You won’t do it but I will and then you’ll be a coward!” “No I’ll do it and you won’t and you’ll be the coward!” 

And then they change their names. And then they realize they’ve tricked each other into matrimony with the weirdest last names ever. The end.
