Maybe it lets itself be exorcised by you in order to be able to be ‘commanded’.

Or maybe it does not, it adapts to all your attacks without breaking a sweat whilst you are surely running out of breath and dry of cursed energy, but it stands still. It doesn’t attack you, not a single move.

Now, whatever is threatening your safety, which regards both enemies and allies, Mahoraga obliterates them. The Shikigami does not fool around and gets straight to work. Perhaps, once its duty is complete, it delivers the severed head of whatever it murdered and drops it flat by your feet.

I also picture Mahoraga appearing regardless of summoning (although it goes against cannon), Mahoraga is able to summon itself when it senses you are in great danger or distress, or when it simply desires.

Mahoraga has no intelectual grasp of emotions, but it certainly feels. It has instincs, like an animal.

And something about you certainly provokes the instinct to protect and take care of, and maybe some sense of possession and territory.

Who knows, maybe the Shikigami has other instincts too… If you know what I mean.

Bonus! The Divine General Shikigami may complement a yandere Zenin sorcerer. You may not be a Zenin yourself, but if another Zenin sorcerer with the ten shadows tecnhique is madly, sickenly, and twisted in love with you- Mahoraga may pick up on some of those emotions…
