Unexpected Grief Glimmer
Since I've lost some important people in my life, more than ever little items or reminders that I find out in the world mean so much to me. It might seem like a silly thing - but these little phenoms known as grief glimmers bring me so much joy. It's like a little love letter from my loved ones.
Let's go back to May 2025, where I was in Cambria for the weekend. My friends and I ended our time in Morro Bay with lunch, but I stayed a little longer to walk the beach before I headed home. As I walked, I thought about my maternal grandparents and my cousin. My maternal grandparents were staples in our beach vacations growing up - actually pretty much all of our vacations, but our big vacations were usually to Pismo Beach. As for my cousin, when I spent the weekend babysitting him, I would take him to the beach - which half the time he hated but enjoyed the time we spent out there.Β
As I was walking along with my memories, I happened to look at the ground because I wanted to find seashells. Instead, I found a heart shaped rock. I gasped. I cried. I took a picture to show my family. Then I picked the damn thing up and put it in my pocket.
It was like a little "hello" from my grandparents and cousin. It was something I needed. Something unexpected. It made my heart warm and fuzzy.
Fast forward to this past weekend, we took my great aunt to the coast for a day trip. We've been talking about doing a coastal trip for quite some time. Since she's moving to Oklahoma, we took the opportunity to plan a day to make our coastal day happen.
We ended our day on the beach of Cambria - which is well known for being able to find sea glass. by the way - I always find the most miniscule sea glass pieces when I'm there.. I've found bigger pieces in Morro Bay. But back to Cambria.. I was sitting on the rocky beach, sifting through the rock sand looking for sea glass. I moved an inch or so to start looking in another area and guess what I found?
A heart shaped rock.
Yeah. A friggin' heart shaped rock. This time - I haven't received any glimmers lately. Well.. aside from a dream where my maternal grandmother appeared. However, it was slightly sad so I'm not 100% sure it was a grief glimmer. So I've been wondering if the glimmers are done lately. Only to be unexpectedly hit with a heart shaped rock.
So thank you, loved ones.
I felt you. I needed this.
