For Theodore, being right was more of a default state, really, but he appreciated anyone else noticing it. âI wish I could say I wasnât the same way butâwell, you see how I am when I get even a whiff of inspiration for my dissertation, and while I wouldnât say Iâm behind on it, Iâm notâŚnot behind either.â There wasnât really a timeline, and his advisor seemed to lack any real drive for him to finish quickly, which Theodore hoped was a sign that he wanted the best possible paper. âItâs that, or to teach me a lesson, right?â He cracked a smile. The guards were hardly punitiveâin his experienceâbut he wouldnât exactly put it passed some of them either. âIâm not sure if itâs better to write a work thatâs world-altering, or just quietly helpful to the people who need to read it the most, but Iâm not sure I want the fameâŚâ he admitted, a tad shy.

âWell youâre not not behind until youâre done, right?â Brianna herself didnât have much experience with graduate or doctoral programs but she vaguely remembered her sisterâs mad scramble to finish all of her research and writing on time for her program. That and the high, messy bun she used to wear and lose pencils in at the very top of her head. âItâs probably to teach you a lesson, but theyâll take credit for both.â Bri laughed, knowing all too well how the government tended to function and think. âI donât know which Iâd want either.â She thought. There was something to be said about the glory of working and solving cases that brought national recognition but there was also something about the quiet thankfulness of families that werenât as widely publicized. âI think world-altering puts too much pressure on the âand what are you going to do next?â Thereâs really only down from there unless you alter the world a second time. History will paint the picture of your mistakes over your triumphs.â
