I am not taking a risk
Not risking it pals
U know what I want potato of luck
Damn right I’m reblogging. See previous post re wrath of whatever from high atop the thing.
potato I will never ask you for anything else in my lifetime please potato for fuck's sake
So your parents suck?
Okay, so you’re starting from scratch, you can’t cook, you don’t know what career you’re interested in, you lack skills that your parents should have taught you, and your finances aren’t in order. Worst of all, you don’t know where to begin 👀. Well, I got a list of books for you.
( most of the books listed have visuals)
These are 10 must-have books that’ll help you maneuver through life!
1. “The Self Care prescription” by Robyn L. Gobin, Ph.D ⭐️ MUST HAVE ⭐️ (Amazon)
Self-care is important. If you don’t know where to start this book was made for you. It will clear up any confusion you may have about self-care, and how it looks. It also addresses mental health and teaches you skills on how to deal with real-life issues. The author also has a journal you can purchase alongside this book. (Amazon link)
2. “Infographic guide to Personal Finance” by Elisabeth Lariviere and Michele Cavan, CPA (Amazon)
All the financial advice you need in one book. It has a range of topics from debt to investing, buying property, and budgeting. This book is easy to understand and has lovely graphics.
3. “How to be a person” by Catherine Newman (Amazon)
All the skills you need to be a functioning human being are in this book. I recommend this book for people who didn’t have a lot of guidance growing up. “How to be a person” will fill you in on the basics. It tells you how to tip people, do laundry, send mail, and make your bed. It also has some easy recipes and a lot more. It’s a great starter book for those who genuinely don’t know where to begin!
4. “Atomic Habits” by James Clear (Amazon)
If you are looking to break a habit or start a new one this book is a bestseller and highly recommended. It can also be helpful for those who struggle with motivation, making changes, etc. Before reading this book, I had difficulty getting back on track after a break. Since reading Atomic Habits, I’ve been able to stay consistent with my goals and overcome moments of doubt. Once you’ve read Atomic Habits I would suggest purchasing @2pretty 12-month dream girl guide. It can help you keep track of the habits you want to master and the steps you plan on taking to accomplish your goal. It’s also a cute journal 🥰.
5. “Budgeting 101” by Michele Cavan, CPA (Amazon)
A very detailed book explaining everything you need to know about budgeting, saving, and investing. It also has a couple of tips.
6. “Home EC for everyone” by Sharon & David Bowers (Amazon)
All the life skills you need are in this book. It covers cooking, laundry, sewing, and other domestic skills. Home EC has recipes, a list of supplies, and how-to’s on cleaning, setting tables &, etc. This book is amazing. It’s been my favorite purchase this year. It starts with the easy stuff like boiling water 😭 and cracking an egg, but it gets into other info like getting gum out of carpet, how to hem a skirt, reading laundry symbols, making beef stew, and brining meat, just to mention a few.
7. “Getting from college to career” by Lindsey Pollak (Amazon)
If you need advice on preparing for interviews, working on your resume, getting real-world experiences, and finding job opportunities. I couldn’t suggest a better book. It has other topics and is great for anyone who needs advice while they’re looking for a job, but it is catered to college graduates.
8. “Adulting made easy” by Amanda Morin (Amazon)
Budgeting, insurance, getting a job, KEEPING a job, safe social media usage, living situations, and a few other life skills are all mentioned in “adulting made easy”. I love this book and started including it in my gift package for friends and family members going to college or moving out, it’s such a great resource.
9. “The driving book” by Karen Gravelle (Amazon)
This book is geared towards new drivers, but I believe it has some great information for everyone. It tells you what to keep in your car, how to take care of it, and how to drive in different areas. Such as the freeway, the countryside, etc.
10. “Careers the ultimate guide to planning your future” (Amazon)
This book has a range of careers, some requiring just trade school or associates, others needing a doctorate. With such a range, you’ll be sure to get an idea of what career you might be interested in. It also has a rank on the salary you’ll be making from each opportunity listed.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Now I am all for reading and gathering information but please be sure to put the tips you learn to use.
I’ll try to make a version of this that has online readings or links. I know some people don’t like books or don’t have space for books so if I find any articles I’ll make a post 🤍
♡ xoxo Mrs.Degree ❣️
p.s just cuz you didn’t learn these skills as a kid doesn’t mean your parents suck I just picked that as a header.
The fact that most of the people who I got kinda close with basically left me without a second thought really made me grow this unconscious belief that sooner or later I'll end up alone, no matter what. This made me build up walls and avoid making people come too close (what's the point of being open if they're leaving anyway? Let's keep things on a surface level, it's gonna make the whole process easier for both). But the truth is... that's not what a relationship of any type is supposed to be and this doesn't have to happen again. Not everyone is supposed to leave, some people are supposed to stay in our life and help us heal and grow. And also, I am now different from the person I was. I know how strong I am, how much I can afford and survive, and I know where I might have been wrong in the past so probably I won't make the same mistakes again or at least try my best to recognize them and make up for them. I wanna do better and be better, and feel deserving of something more. Cause I do.
I forgot I have to be active here so here’s my Twitter tutorial on how to draw folds I made a while back to help a friend!

i am begging you all to stop treating this site like instagram if you dont want it to be content free by next year
actually i'm reblogging this again with commentary, fuck it.
There's people in the notes talking about "not basing your worth off numbers", and like. that isn't what this post is about. It's not a threat, either, it's a comment on how this site works, at a mechanical level.
Likes are worthless. Let me say that again.
Likes. Are. Worthless.
They don't do anything. They're a bookmark. They were never part of how tumblr works - in the early days we didn't even have a like button, and the site still more or less acts as though we don't. They're personal bookmarks and the only people who "get" anything from them are you (you bookmark the post) and the OP (maybe a very slight serotonin boost), but they don't keep the post in circulation, they don't keep it alive.
Without reblogs, a post will be dead in the water within an hour. No matter how good it is, no matter how many hours of painstaking love and attention its creator put into it, it will be dead within an hour and never seen again. It gets pushed down the dashboard and nobody aside from the followers who were online when it was posted will see it. And there's a huge difference in engagement on posts that get even one lucky reblog from someone with wider reach - that one reblog shows your post to five, ten, fifteen other people, and if one of those people also reblogs it, and so on and so forth, that's how posts stay alive and in circulation. It's like a contagion, but we're sharing creativity instead of disease.
And that matters. That "lifespan" of the post matters, artists and writers give up on this site and go to sites where posts have longer lifespans because it sucks to spend hours of your life, maybe even days, to get two notes and some fucking pocket lint for your efforts. We create for ourselves, but we share because we want people to see it, because that engagement offers positive feedback and encouragement to continue. But more than that, if every post (whether art, fic, gifset, whatever) is dying within an hour or a day of being posted, that means it's not making it onto your dashboard. And if it's not on your dashboard, you won't see it. This kills the site, after a while. You stop seeing the posts, because nobody is putting them on your dashboard, because this site doesn't have an algorithm like twitter and insta's and it shouldn't, it's the last bastion of chronological timelines.
Forgive my giant fucking rant I am so tired right now and full of the plague but like stop acting like artists and writers are just being whiny little babies, or "threatening" to withhold our fucking work (you're not entitled to it! it's ours! if we get nothing out of sharing it we're well within our rights to keep it private!) when we say this site will dry up without reblogs. We're just stating facts.
also I’ve seen some people in the tags say ‘oh there have always been more likes on posts’ no there haven’t ????
these are posts from 2013, look at the ratio
not to sound like a nursing home resident but back then people know that the point of this site was to reblog things and share them, not to bury them away among your other 23k liked posts
Fantastic art
@aroacedavestrider my dude i cannot in good faith accept these useless geography facts on account of them being iconic, actually
oh my god nothing in my imagination could’ve prepared me for market island.
or for this review on google maps:
im glad to know my horrible facts are making their rounds and im here with more horrible facts
- the most secluded inhabited island in the world is a place called tristan da cunha. its in the middle of the atlantic ocean at a whopping fucking 1500 miles away from the closest inhabited location (south africa). people just fucking live out there??
- the oldest lake in the world is (probably) lake zaysan in kazahstan. nobodys entirely certain yet but theres evidence that suggests that this is a 65 million year old body of water, meaning theres a lake that exists and can be looked at today that could have had dinosaurs drinking out of it at one point
-the lake immediately following that is confirmed to be at least 25 million years old and thats lake baikal in siberia russia. the bitch is on a continental fault that expands about 2cm per year and as of right now this lake is over a mile deep. the bottom however is FULL of sediment and the actual rift floor is NINE MILES DOWN. this monstrosity of a lake contains literally 20% of the earths nonfrozen fresh water, it has its own unique species of seal, and eventually in millions of years this thing is gonna be an ocean. lake baikal is a baby fucking ocean. its gonna split russias ass in two. i am 100% certain it is sentient
- there is not a single river in saudi arabia and that blows my mind for some reason
- theres whats now considered a lost “eighth continent” thats submerged in the south pacific ocean. the islands of new zealand are the highest peaks of the chunk of continental crust that we now call zealandia. its about half the size of australia and its also connected to other little archipelagos like new caledonia. we found it. old zealand
- the entrance to this fucking ancient bay lake in venezuela (lake maracaibo, over 20 million years old) is the most likely place to get struck by lightning in the world. it gets around 1.2 million lightning strikes per year
- LAKE HILLIER AUSTRALIA FUCKIGN PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- and finally. more enclave border bullshit. i told yall about baarle hertog. now look at india and pakistan. i present to you the one and only third order enclave
this . this was a piece of india, surrounded by a piece of bangladesh, surrounded.. by a piece of india….. surrounded by bangladesh . it has since been ceded over to bangladesh but the fact that we allowed this to exist is incredible
anyway do with all that what you will. raise your hand if you can tell this is a fixation of mine
sooo….. THIS is Baarle-Hertog:
The wikipedia article names all the enclaves and tells you what the border runs through, including such gems as:
– H7, De Loversche Akkers: Boundary runs through two dwellings, including the middle of one front door (giving it two house numbers: Loveren 2, Baarle-Hertog / Loveren 19, Baarle-Nassau).
– H13, Boschcoven: Boundary runs through about 20 dwellings.
– H16, Keizershoek - Oordelsche Straat: Boundary runs through a house and three sheds, with three turning points inside just one shed.
Fun thing about these spots on the Dutch-Belgian border: it was ridiculous during lockdown because our countries had different rules about going into shops. So people would be going into a shop without a mask and someone at the till would have to be like “excuse me, isle seven is in Belgium please put on your mask or I have to kick you out” it was so funny and stupid

That finale was 🙌🏼🙌🏼 so character focused. And Tom Hiddleston was fantastic in it.
I have so many questions. So many more than I had after the 5th episode. The last episode was supposed to answer questions. At least there's season 2. God knows when we'll get that though

Hello friends
I need some help to find a Steve/Tony fic. I have been going through my ao3 like a maniac but I couldn't find it. I remember a couple things:
1. It's a college/school
2. I don't remember how they get together in it, but it features Howard stark, and Steve's mom Sarah. Howard is abusive. Tony is biding his time so that he can run once he turn 18
3. Steve's mom gets into an accident at some point and is in coma. Tony helps pay their bills by stealing from Howard.
4. Howard confronts Tony about it and hits him. Tony blackmails him with footage of him beating Tony to keep him quiet.
I can probably remember a little more if I am asked specific questions but I can't remember what it was tagged. I remember it being well written so I want to find it. Please comment if you know anything that includes above plot points

I binged all 8 episodes of Only murders in the building yesterday and it's so good. The tone is so unlike a usual crime drama. It's really interesting. The main cast is phenomenal. Of course nobody needs me to tell them how great Steve Martin and Martin Short are. But sometimes I forget that Selena Gomez is actually a REALLY good actress. I immediately fell in love with the 3 characters. Please watch it if you haven't.

Black widow (2021)
I didn't think Natasha's death could be any more painful than watching the actual death scene, but this movie made it even more emotional💔
