There were several signs that told me something bad would happen that night. Signs that, had I been paying enough attention, then maybe none of this would have happened.
The Nox, for example, had been pretty quiet that night. A few people came in and out, and the pitiful amount of costumers made Murdoc uneasy and moody. Satan knows his club is always alive on Sunday evenings. Another thing I noticed a few days later is that 23 had been really on edge for the whole day, like there was a constant feeling of danger creeping up her back. Even Ace was quiet, and that is something that just never happens.
But I failed to see these things at the time, and I think about them every single day since that night. I think that, maybe, if I had wondered why Murdoc acted the way he did, I wouldn't have left The Nox so late at night. I think that if I had asked Noodle why she was so serious, instead of just assuming she was bored, then there wouldn't exist a reason for me to drag her out of the house.
Perhaps if Ace's silence was a bit stronger, then I would have noticed.
But I didn't. So I went to The Nox with Noodle, decided to turn back at 1 am and muted the warning of danger with my ignorance.
It was my fault that those men decided to attack us. It was my fault that she was forced to fight back. It was my fault that one of them knocked me out because I was too weak to defend myself. It was my fault that she had to kill again.
And I saw her. And I was terrified of that bloodied monster holding a knife.
23 was supposed to be a machine, a killing robot. All she knows is supposed to be war and knives and blood.
That night I was a witness of what she wanted so badly to get away from.
The Nox is full of secrets. Maybe this is one of them.
This is the first (and hopefully not the last) glimpse you'll get of The Nox AU, in all it's dark and haunting glory.
23 is trying to get away from her past as a murder weapon, while also finding who she is underneath everything she's done. Looking for freedom.
Stuart Pot is a young man who's biggest mistake in life was taking care of that strange girl that threatened him on a dark alley. But mistakes can come with beautiful consequences.
Murdoc Niccals is the owner of the biggest, loudest and craziest club in town. The Nox is the place where everything happens, where everyone meets (and with a pianist like 2D on stage, it's understandable)
Russel Hobbs is a man living in the past, trying to cope with reality and accept his ghosts, quite literally. Maybe he hasn't forgiven himself yet, or maybe he's just waiting for a chance to see Del again.
Ace is a young guy with a clear future in mind, but life is hard, and it's not until he meets again with an old friend that he gets a chance to prove what he's worth.
Maybe this can work, after all...
