As a married person I do need to tell you all that Shane and Ilya do weird shit all the time.
They routinely have entire conversations where Ilya is very softly smacking Shane's foot the entire time. Shane enjoys the percussive feedback.
Ilya mispronounces the word "Application" and they just sit there mutually whispering 'Aaap-li-caaa-shun' at each other for the next thirty seconds.
Ilya comes up behind Shane while he's trying to make a smoothie and says 'HELPING HANDS' and puts his arms under Shane's armpits.
Ilya sees Shane undressing in the bathroom and yells, "Take it all off!"
Shane carries Anya into the bedroom and holds her over Ilya's chest and moves her paws and says, "Papa it is me. Papa it has been an whole hour since I ate. Papa I am so hungry and sad." then drops her on his stomach.
Shane comes into the home office and grabs a pen off the desk and puts it against Ilya's cheek and says, "Any last words?" and Ilya says, "I wish I had eaten more dumplings."
Ilya spends an entire episode of House Hunters International with his hand down Shane's pants. It's not doing anything in there either it's just keeping warm.
Sometimes they are just mutually awake at three AM for No Reason and they go stand on the porch and stare at the empty street together.
Sometimes they are laying there playing footsie on the couch while on their phones (Parallel play) and Shane says, "Does your mouth ever do that squeezing thing. You know. When you eat." And Ilya says "Explain" and they spend the next ten minutes dissecting whether this is a Human Experience or a Shane Experience.
Sometimes Ilya will put his head on Shane's stomach and say, "Show me your boooones" and wait for Shane to lift his shirt so he can burrow under it.
I just think that we as a fandom need to embrace how Weird married people get about each other. From personal experience I am telling you it is SO FUN.

people calling this season boring confuse the shit out of me. we have two friends giving each other hearteyes as top rivals. rookies keep being punted at their home races. the guy everyone hates for things all the other guys also do just went from 40 points behind to 24 points ahead. a rookie just got a second place in a main race. the goat and the prince of monaco just said fuck you to their higher up by subtweeting them. the backmarkers have old man yaoi storylines going on off the track. we had both aston martins qualify above the reigning champion. the diva of the grid has consistently given us epic monologues. the guy who was thrown out of the prestigious team with his bestie in it dragged the midfield car to a podium and called it his best podium ever. and then proceeded to roadtrip home with that bestie. the oldest man on the grid decided to DNF himself without pre-warning by just coming into the pits. a rookie defended successfully against the reigning champion for several laps and made it look easy. there were two races with a double DNF for Ferrari where Kimi was involved in DNFing the prince of Monaco. we've had some of the cleanest driving, defending and overtaking between number four and number sixteen in the US and we got a show of people online being pissed at clean racing because the one doing it was, again, the guy they all hate for things others on the grid have done worse. we've had early 2000s levels of ass grabbing this season. we've had an argentinian defying team orders. we've had grandpa yelling at cloud meme. we've had surprise pole positions. we've had a collective hatred for a guy from new zealand not driving properly. we've had a thai masterclass in overtaking. we've had hulk podium. we've had whiny boys on radio. we've had race engineers gentle parenting their driver. we've had hilarious racing incidents. we've had divorced couple on track.
and you call it boring because *checks notes* the team that has had no number one driver even over a decade ago decided to stick to that and *checks notes again* the best car wins in a racing category that's about not having fully equal cars so for once the top two cars are from the same team because that team isn't the energy drink company that has consistently treated their second seat like dirt...got it!

βMcLaReN sAbOtAgEd OsCaRβs RaCe FoR LaNdO!!!1!β
Iβm going to lay things out very plainly (using both my eyeballs and team radio transcripts for Lando and Oscar) for the people that donβt understand and only care about their fave regardless of logic:
**see under the cut**
1. After immediately being packed in at the beginning of the race, Lando noted that he was struggling with the tires on lap 14 as he was fighting to regain his position from P5. Lando commented on laps 18 and 21 that his tires were gone and didnβt see anything improving from there. Lando was given the suggestion (order for the new plan) for a one-stop on lap 28 because he had nothing to lose at that point after seeing no improvement, and he wasnβt even really sold on doing it. He agreed because it was his only slim chance of trying for at least podium, at best. AGAIN, the one-stop was not Plan A, Plan B, or Plan C. It was the last resort strategy option because it was not favorable nor promising.
2. The primary objective was to overtake LeClerc because he was ahead of both drivers for the majority of the race, not including the few instances of the order being shaken up when different drivers boxed at different times. After Oscar being given the option to do a one-stop later in the race on lap 7, he said he wasnβt sure because it was hard to know at that moment with so long to go. Oscar noted graining degradation on the front left tire on lap 12, and he boxed for hard tires to overtake LeClerc on lap 18. He asked if the one-stop would work on lap 24 because it is quite literally the drivers job to be constantly thinking about strategy and how to get the best race result for the team. The team said it would be difficult (which was true.) The team monitors the entire car and analyzes all possibilities compared to the way he drives and the carβs readings. Thatβs why drivers have more specific strategies based on their specific driving styles.
3. Lando pitted for hard tires on lap 31. The team asked Oscar if he could get to the end on another hard tire on lap 34 and he confirmed that he could if he pitted again. Oscar made a comment about the condition of the tires on lap 35. The team told Lando to prioritize saving his tires on lap 37 because he wouldnβt be stopping again. Oscar was asked what he wanted to prioritize on lap 38, which did not mean that LeClerc was no longer priority. The team asked that in order to take both things into account for the rest of the race. The primary objective of the drivers is to score points for the team.
4. Lando was told by the team that the hard tires would only just get to the end on lap 39. LeClerc was comfortably P1 until boxing and being overtaken by Oscar on lap 40. Lando started noting a lot of traffic and dirty air starting on lap 41 and repeatedly requested they do something for blue flags. Oscar reaffirmed he wanted to prioritize beating Lando because he successfully overtook LeClerc, and the team had him box for fresh hard tires on lap 45 to give him the best chance of doing so. The gap to Lando was 8 seconds on lap 51.
5. The team warned Lando about incoming rain on lap 54 and told him he would only lose out to Oscar if he was to box during a safety car for a hard tire, and Lando only said he would want soft tires instead. The team told Oscar that Lando was getting held up by traffic and caught in dirty air on lap 61 for a potential chance to make up distance and try to overtake him.
6. The team warned Oscar βremember how we go racingβ twice on lap 69 because they nearly collided as Oscar was trying to overtake, not because they were telling him to let Lando win. They were warning him not to do anything that would jeopardize them both, especially after Canada. The team told Lando multiple times that Oscar was going to be using overtake. Lando did not protest at all. The team did not tell Oscar not to try to beat Lando. The team let them race flat out.
7. Just because it miraculously worked for Lando doesnβt mean it would work for Oscar. They are two different drivers who drive very differently. Them having the same car does not mean their cars will experience the same performance. If the situation was reversed and it didnβt work for Oscar, you lot would be blaming the team for having him do the one-stop! Oscar nearly had Lando in the end despite doing the planned two-stop and Oscar himself said he wasnβt sure if he would have overtaken him, even if he hadnβt locked up at the end, in the post-race press conference. Lando defended accordingly on the same set of tires from his one and only stop 40 laps before, despite him noting multiple times that he had no grip and was struggling a lot. You cannot cry about βthe gapβ that the additional stop added when Oscar very impressively made up on better tires and almost overtook him in the end. That discredits the incredible racing he was doing and even he doesn't think that.
8. In a post-race interview (the below video on this post), Oscar says that the main issue with the race was dirty air, not doing a two-stop instead of a one-stop, because a two-stop was always the plan from the beginning. You canβt even claim that this is them saving face because both drivers have made it very clear that they will be very open with how they feel if a decision made by the team was fucked (see: Hungarian GP 2024.) Saying that theyβre just being agreeable for the media discredits their agency to give their usual blunt honesty.
9. Oscar says, again, that the plan was doing a two-stop from the beginning, priority was overtaking LeClerc, the main issue with the race was the dirty air (not the stop strategy), and says that the ideal race strategy is only βvery easy to say in hindsightβ and further explains everything in the post-race press conference (click here for the video.)
The bottom line is that just because you want your favorite driver to win does not mean you should let logic fly out the window when they donβt. Be so serious, these are grown men who are racing each other and 18 other people to score points primarily for their team, because that is why they are employed. Stop putting blame on Lando for following a last resort plan that not even he thought would work, especially because it wasnβt even NEAR their originally desired strategy options.
I feel like people have so massively bought into the manufactured, obscenely amplified rivalry that Netflix concocted in Drive to Survive that surpasses their typical teammate rivalry, despite both of them talking about how ridiculous and frustrating it is. Itβs only going to get worse after fans are fueling it with this kind of shit as new material for S8.
Learn how F1 actually is. Enough with the conspiracy theories. ENOUGH!
when Brennan said "The first rule of existence is: as above, so below. People are fractal images of the universe. You are as we are. In the same way your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don't, then it doesn't."
when Brennan said "It is a horrifying responsibility to think because things cannot remain the same, each and every one of us must shoulder some responsibility for how they will become different."
when Brennan said "Sometimes decisions are not difficult. Sometimes they are just hard."
when Brennan said "There is no moral. The Wolf eats you one day and until it does, the forest is beautiful."
when Brennan said "I always felt the fundamental substance of the universe is creation. None of this makes any sense, when you really break it down. It's like, none of this had to happen, but it's beautiful and art is the definition of 'this didn't have to happen, but it's beautiful.' [...] It resonates with the universe because the universe is consciousness playing with itself."
