garrett stepped out of the bathroom with a towel draped around his waist, hair still damp from the shower. the brace on his leg was the only reminder of everything that had gone wrong these past few months, and for once, it wasn’t the first thing on his mind. a grin spread across his face as he caught hannah watching him from the bed. “ yeah? ” he asked, leaning against the doorframe. “ I was aiming for inspirational. glad to see it’s working. ” his gaze softened almost immediately. because the truth was, she wasn’t entirely wrong. after weeks of frustration, pain, and feeling like he wasn’t himself anymore, waking up beside her this morning had felt like finally coming up for air. their first intimate night together after weeks of bed rest certainly helped the cause, too. no disappointments in bouncing back from him. “ I’m serious, though. ” his eyes stayed on hers. “ for the first time since I got hurt, I didn’t wake up thinking about hockey. ” a quiet laugh escaped him as he shook his head. “ which is both a miracle and entirely your fault, wellsy. ” the corner of his mouth lifted.

their relationship had been nothing but full of obstacles from the jump ⸺ and against every odd, they've conquered all of them. of course, hannah was worried sick about his injury ⸺ but never once did she believe he wouldn't bounce back stronger than before. history had long proven that they can push past anything.

there the brunette lays, tangled up in his sheets – green doe eyes fixated on the handsome figure hovering by the door frame. “ inspirational? seriously, dude? ” she shakes her head but the pink on her cheeks gives up the gig. before she can fight it any longer, hannah cracks a soft smile that is heartstopping. “ it was alright. ” the teasing contrasts the warmth of her tone.

garrett's head has never whipped around so fast it hurts. his hand comes up to reach to the back of his neck, rubbing the spot it suddenly hurt. his dark hues take in hannah, how serious her features were it terrified him. her nostrils were flared, fists in knuckles. thick brows rise against his forehead, turning to face her now. his head shakes, dark curls bounce against his head at how aggressive his action was. ❝ hannah, of course i love you. ❞ feet move forward a little, every part of him screams to hold her in his arms and tell her how silly she was being, but she was in fact serious.

john was halfway through pulling on his shirt when sabrina spoke. he paused, fingers stilling on the buttons as a quiet laugh escaped him. not because it was funny, but because somehow he'd known that was going to be the first thing she'd say. turning toward her, he leaned back against the dresser and studied her for a moment. the morning light spilling through the curtains should've made this awkward. should've made him want to leave. instead, he found himself strangely reluctant to look away. “ you know, ” he said, voice low, “ most people start with good morning. ” the corner of his mouth lifted when she shot him a look.

the trance subside slightly as her dark gaze drifts away from him. “ tucker⸺ ” it comes out of her mouth like a protest, like he knows exactly what he's doing . . . and him just being him is enough to break her walls. “ i shouldn't have stayed over. ” she says, the guilt seemingly growing with each word. sabrina had a tough exterior with everyone else, she wasn't used to being vulnerable with anyone. but with john tucker his patience, his kindness⸺ his big heart had shifted something in her. “ i don'tー i don't regret it either. ” she admits softly, big doe browns finally finding his.
