The voice finally stirred her from the thoughts that had sense darkened the one bright light she was. Dark eyes slowly lifted from the chipped nail polish to the man before her. Somewhere in her mind she knew this was her husband, someone who understood the situation, and someone who loved her. But she felt as if the entire world died away when that heartbeat was ripped from her. “HI”, she croaked, the tears beginning to well up in her eyes. Shaking her head, she forced air down her throat in hopes of trying to keep in control of the emotions. “Sorry I didn’t make dinner..”
He hated to see Dallas this way. Usually, in times of trouble, he would be able to soothe the negative emotions out of her and fill those spaces with something much happier. But this - there was no way that he would be able to do such a thing. He understood the situation because he too was living in it but it was all out of is control nonetheless. “That’s - that’s - um....” he paused, exhaling a shaky sigh. “That’s okay, baby. Y-You don’t --- there’s no need, uh --- you don’t have to.” Shaking his head in confirmation, he walked towards the couch and sat down beside her. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to her temple.
Dallas sat on the couch, the half empty glass of wine sitting on the end table and her arms wrapped firmly around her knees. The last week hurt, it ached in a way she had never known to be possible. The movie played on the screen but she hadn’t even noticed the tv on. Just as she didn’t hear the door close. @breslinpeters
Breslin hadn’t been to work much in the last few days. Or, he’d go, but he wouldn’t exactly do work. He’d fall into the same routine of intensely reading or intensely tidying up the shelves until it came to his lunch break, then he’d do the same thing all over again until he was able to go home. And tonight was no different. The entirety of Tree Hill was silent as he drove home - just like the library was, just like his house was, just like everything was. Closing the dor behind him as he walked in, he pulled his shoes off at the mat and hung up his coat before he was walking into the living room to see Dallas and two sleeping puppies. “Um - hi.... hi, Dal,” he swallowed, a frown coming to his lips as he observed the situation. There was honestly nothing that he could do.
She sat on the counter top, watching her old friend pace a hole into the floor. It was a sight that ate her up inside, it was something she had never wished to witness in her life. No one seemed to notice and no one seemed to realize the horrors that were probably playing through his head. It wasn’t every day someone lost a child, it wasn’t every day plucky paramedics answered a call to a women going through a miscarriage either. “Breslin, I have that tea ready?”, she called out, lightly drumming on the counter top.
Breslin barely heard Paislee’s words --- hell, he barely even noticed that the tea was ready to begin with. His mind was too busy and the taps of his shoes against her kitchen tile was all that he heard, all that he allowed himself to hear. He was so incredibly anxious and for once in a long time he didn’t know what to do with himself, which was why the pacing had started to begin with. “--- Hm?” he looked up, over to Paislee, and his eyes scanned the situation before he was nodding. “O-Oh, um - r-right. Right. I, uh --- sorry.” He tried his best to give an apologetic smile, but that didn’t work out too well before he shook it off.
Jamie, eyed Breslin. ‘’Come on? What’s wrong?’’ he asked leaning against a book shelf. ‘’You certainly look okay Breslin..’’ He sighed.
“Just - Just some --- just some stuff going on, is all....” he exhaled a deep breath, “Just some stuff with my wife and I.”

Malone blinked rapidly as she watched, her concern only heightening by every second that passed. Breslin was one of the gentlest souls she’d ever met so if anyone didn’t deserve pain it was him. Her eyes moved to the books so as not to make him feel any more uncomfortable than he already did. She waited a few moments for him to finish his words, before turning to him with a frown. “May I give you a hug?” She asked gingerly, thinking that was what she would want most if she were him. But who was she to judge.
Breslin was unsure if he was supposed to feel a weight being lifted off his chest due to his words. He hadn't actually spoken about this with anybody else besides Dallas - mainly because nobody else really knew that she was pregnant in the first place - and it certainly didn't feel good to talk about. But he supposed that it wasn't a completely horrible thing to speak out loud rather than letting these thoughts cloud his brain. A hand coming up to comb through the curls that had fallen in his face, he averaged his gaze from Malone to the stacks of books, but then from the stacks of books to the shoes on his feet. “I - uh... I - I --- I don't ---,” he paused, releasing a sigh to collect his thoughts. “Okay.”
His attempt at a smile had made a frown grow on Malone’s face. She cocked her head stepping into the aisle the bookshelves created. She waved gently, a small but concerned smile upon her face. “I know we don’t know each other that well–but I’m here to listen if you would like.” She shrugged gently, taking another step closer now. “I know you always help me when you listen to me so maybe it works the other way around too?”
Breslin didn’t want to push his problems onto Malone, especially when they were so damn heavy that the weight of them were nearly collapsing in on his chest as they spoke. But she did have a point --- he was always such a great listener when it came to her, there was no reason why she wouldn’t pay him the same respect. “I just - um - I --- I don’t know,” he shrugged, setting one of the books between two others and occupying his mind with making sure they stood as straight as could be. “My wife --- she was - like --- you know, she was - she was pregnant. But, uh....” he shrugged once more, a frown settling on his lips. “I don’t know.”

“Are you okay, bro?”
Breslin faced the unfamiliar boy, and he nodded with a forced grin. “Y-Yeah --- yeah, I’m --- uh - I’m --- fine. Sorry.”
Malone was perusing the library for books as she often did when she noticed Breslin. Some part of her had certainly been hoping to run into him. Their encounters were always that of very pleasant ones since they seemed to have an understanding of one another that others simply did not even come close to. At least that’s how Malone felt about Breslin. Just by the looks of his pacing, Malone had to wonder if something was wrong. “Breslin? Everything alright?”
Breslin should have expected to run into Malone - that being a more than common occurrence for his work hours - but today, he didn’t think of it. So once he caught sight of her, he attempted a smile but it certainly couldn’t have looked natural. “H-Hi, Malone --- um - hi. I - I’m ---,” he nodded, his foot tapping against the floor. How do you tell someone that your wife lost the baby? “--- I’m o-okay.”

Jamie looked at Breslin, it was obvious something was bothering him. ‘’Alright, what’s wrong? You’re acting way more nervous than normal.’’ Jamie sighed, raising an eyebrow at him. ‘’You pacing doesn’t bother me, but somethings bothering you..’’
Breslin couldn’t really phrase what was bothering him, so he only shook his head. “I - I’m not --- I’m not nervous, I ---,” he turned away from Jamie’s looks, his eyes focusing on the bookshelves. “I’m okay.”
Jamie had been sat in the library for most of the day, working on his novel. He felt like he was finally getting somewhere with it, every once in a while he’s see Bresline through the bookcases, pacing. After about an hour of seeing him periodically, Jamie stood from his seat, packing his stuff away and heading over to him. ‘’You’re going to make a hole in the floor with all that pacing.’’
Breslin hadn’t expected to be approach, so when he heard Jamie’s voice, he nearly flinched. “--- Oh, um,” he shook his head, but he kept his knee bouncing. He felt as though he had to be moving. “That’s - that’s --- okay, I - it’s the first floor! Uh --- anyway. It’s the f-first floor anyway.” A hand rubbed the back of his neck, and his fingers curled around the strands of his hair. “S-Sorry, um --- I’m sorry.”
“Are you okay?”
Breslin was startled by the voice, and he swiftly turned behind him. “I - um --- yeah, I --- I’m fine.” The smile he gave in return was weak, and he fiddled with the bindings of the books. “.... Yeah.”
This couldn’t be happening, this couldn’t be right. She had felt fine! The doctor said the baby was nice and strong the last time she had seen her. This had to be a nightmare, not real life. But as another wave of pain shot through her lower back and pelvis, Dallas knew that this was not good. She knew that she was in the process of doing something she swore to never do to Breslin, she was going to break his heart. “Breslin”, she moaned out, forehead coming to rest on the cool tile floor. The wave of pain passed shortly, simply allowing her to nod before the tears and sobs won over everything else. Dallas didn’t know what to do or say, it felt like her own heart was being ripped from her chest.
Breslin knew that this was absolutely no fault of Dallas’ own --- she had no control over this, but he could still feel his heart practically breaking in two at the sight of his wife’s pain. She was hurting, and his baby.... he couldn’t think about that right now. “I - I --- I’m right here, Dal,” he whispered, and he knew that he had to get up and take action but his muscles just wouldn’t move. “D-Do you, um --- do you.... should --- do you want me to call? Or - or can you bare the car ride?” He was clueless. Completely and utterly clueless. He’d help her in any way that she needed but right now he just didn’t know.
Breslin couldn’t control his pacing, his feet taking him back and forth between the library shelves in slow motions. There was no real rhyme or reason why, but for once the building felt too quiet and he supposed that the light taps against the floor helped with that. Lost in his own thoughts, a pile of books in his hand that he was meant to be sorting, he barely noticed the person who took up the space at the other end of the shelves.

Never in her life had Dallas experienced such a pain that brought her to the ground. Sure, she’s been hit before or had the wind knocked out of her. But this was different, this was like her body was scraping the insides of her abdomen for any and everything it’s imaginary nails could get on. The voice of her husband was heard in the distance, but Dallas couldn’t answer. Each muscle spasm and cramp sent her deeper and deeper into agony. The warm rose color liquid dripping down her thigh as her cries seemed to only grow louder.
After a couple of seconds without a response, Breslin took it upon himself to twist the doorknob and come inside. His eyes immediately focused on Dallas, the way she curled on the ground, and the liquid that made a trail down her thigh. His mind went to the worst, and he swore his heart stopped in that moment of panic in a way that it’s never done before. He didn’t really know what to do, or what to say; he couldn’t control his own tears prickling up in his eyes as he knelt beside her. “Dallas, a-are you --- we need to, um - we need to do something, I ---,” he shook his head, his eyes scanning the situation once more. “The - the hospital, we --- we need to go there.”
Malone’s face broke out into a light smile, “yeah that’s not the first time I’ve heard that.”
“What’s - what’s on your mind? I mean, you - um - you don’t --- there’s no need to tell me f you.... don’t want to, but. Just wondering.”
