The true melanin Dada.. She has lived it all, she has been thru the treacherous pits of every stage of life... She started as a babe, more fragile than most, she can't climb the walls or the window.. She is a girl... At least that's what her mum thought... But boy you should have seen that girl race, climb up the gates and the stairs... Her mum gave up,... High spirited and beautiful nothing can stop her..
Primary school came with its own set of challenges, learning to juggle between being a girl a sister, a proper daughter and a student. Growing up is never easy when you are a dada, much less a melanin dada. Wake up early and make sure you are ready for school, which sometimes means making breakfast for all, getting to school to start on a new challenge daily, Learning how to deal with the little bully boys who like her, but don’t know how to tell her they like her, and all the while having to deal with the changes in her body and mind. Yet she does it with so much grace, wit, spunk, pride and joy that you will never know the struggle within her daily.
She makes being a dada a pride, a stamp on her forehead that she carries with here everywhere she goes, and when she gets to high school, she wears that stamp with just a bit less pride. Suddenly there are so much more to life, boys, hormones, responsibility, life careers, choices, and it all begins to feel like too much, and for a time, she feels the control slip out from her fingers, but she is a melanindada. Its only for a time…. She is back on her feet before the world can say boo.
University is more of a stamp though, here she learns to have her heart broken, and not just once. He faith in humanity and men flatters but is never broken, and she learns to focus on the important things, family, lifetime friendships, stopping to smell the roses, having fun and living it up, making a plan of her life, constantly keeping one foot in front of the other. Making the best of life, using her challenges as a stepping stone, making every day count!!
Adulthood, relationships, marriage, family, worklife balance is an art that every melanin dada masters before the age of 30. She juggles each ball in her life, being careful to catch the glass balls and never letting them hit the floor. Always keeping in mind that the rubber balls may bounce back, but the glass balls never will.
Her mind, her will, her beauty, her grace, her faults, her fears, her insecurities, her love, her willingness to forgive and forget, her heart, her ability to love beyond everything that she has, and then give some more. her hurts, her stubbornness, her pride! Because, that, and so much more than that, is what makes her the woman she is, the real melanin dada.
