       “Read a book?” she suggests, obviously completely            unimpressed by the pout sent her way. Its hard for her to            remain serious around Raven & she has a bad habit of            giving in to the girl, but when her health is at stake, Abby            is ADAMANT. She is not entirely heartless however, &            her gaze softens as she looks at the girl. 

                                        “…What do you WANT to do?”

      Another eye roll follows Abby’s suggestion-- -     like she hasn’t      already been doing  nothing  but reading for the past days when      no one’s been around to keep her company. Really, what Raven      would like to do is work on something, to use  her  hands  again,       but she already knows there’s  no  way  Abby will let her do any-      thing even REMOTELY resembling physical labor in her state.

    “Meaning you need to GET IN bed.” 

              The words are accompanied by an AFFECTIONATE,                yet  frustrated eye roll & a shake of her head as she                places a hand on Raven’s arm just above the elbow.

                                      “You must be feeling better.”  

  “Aww, C’MON, Abby; I’ve been stuck in    bed for two days straight! I’m gonna go    crazy if you don’t let me do something.”

       “All I got out of that was bed-- -           and I’m totally okay with that.”

           Its  been weeks now since they had returned from Mount Weather                &  she  can  mostly  move  without  pain  now — physical   pain,   that  is.                Emotionally  it  is  another  matter  altogether.  She  tries  not  to  show the                exhaustion  that  has  become  a  constant  part  of  her  life  for she cannot                sleep  at night but the dark circles under her eyes & the fine lines that have                only  grown  deeper  attest  to  the  emotional  struggle  that  every  day has                become.  Only  a  few  people  seem  to  notice — or if more notice they do                not  say  anything  &  Raven  is  one  of  the  few  that  calls her out on it. Its                because  of  this  that  she  has  started to avoid the mechanic. She is tired                of being told that she should take care of herself — she has more important                things to worry about…

               She  looks  up  as  someone  enters  the  room,  face expressionless when                she  sees  who  it  is  though  she  sighs  inwardly. No  doubt she was in for                another  reprimand,  or  worse  yet,  that look of worry  & consternation that                always made Abby feel guilty. 

                                                 “Raven…what do you want?”

                                                “To talk to you.” 

              Contrary to what Abby might think, Raven’s well aware of her avoidance               over the past few weeks.   Ever since they got back, ever since the night               Abby found out that Clarke walked away without saying goodbye,  she’s               been shutting them all out-- - but Raven especially. It almost seemed like               the more she cared, the farther Abby would distance herself from her. 

             And sure, Raven gets it.  She’s been there before.  She  remembers  the              days of coldly glaring at Clarke from across the camp after what she let              happen to Finn, even though no one was to blame for that, let alone the              girl who cared for him the most besides herself. But she also remembers              how much better she felt when she finally let it go,  left  as  much  of  the              grief and resentment behind as she could and moved on. She gets it, so              she  won’t  give  up on Abby, and if that means she’ll to be the outlet for               the mother’s frustration at losing her child in the process then so be it.

              So despite Abby’s cold tone, she walks further into the room, step by               hesitant step until she’s close enough to place a hand on her shoulder.

         She  had  been almost asleep, breath slow & rhythmic  with              one arm draped over the young woman’s waist as they curled  together              in  the  bed  they  now  shared.  Yet  at  those  words & at the  pang they              send  racing  through  her heart, her eyes snap open, sleep forgotten as              she tries to peer through the half light to see the mechanics’s face. She              knows  who  Raven  is  talking  about  but she wished she didn’t for  her              relationship  with  Marcus  has grown strained since he found out about              her & Raven.  

                                  “Raven, honey…”

             The sheets slip down her torso as she sits  up  abruptly,  running a              shaky hand through dark, untamed hair.   Logically, she knows she              has nothing to worry about,   that the fact that they’re  here  means             Abby’s made her choice and she’s  chosen  her, but sometimes the             worries and doubts that creep into her mind uninvited are too much             to ignore. So rather than  leaving  them  to  fester, she turns to face             Abby, a desperate look painted across her face as she searches for             an answer she’s not even sure the other woman will be able to give.

                     “no, but we never have a finest hour, do we?”

        everything they do has to do with everyone else’s survvial. he can’t really be mad at her for almost sacrificing herself, but they did need her. sure, he was a chemist and monty was an engineer, but they still needed a mechanic. they couldn’t be the dream trio without her.

            “well, monty and i can’t do everything ourselves. some things need a mechanics love,”

                    “Not really, no.” 

       Her smile grows more genuine at his words.   She’ll never tell him this,        but part of what motivated her to put herself in front of that bomb was        the feeling of uselessness; she’d  crash  landed  on Earth for Finn, only         to find that he’d practically moved on already-- to Clarke, of all people.        So maybe it’s selfish of her, but Jasper’s validation is a  good  feeling.
