Thinking about this conversation from Discord
Now see, this really pisses me off (the “kids are resilient” thing, not your response to it) because there has been study after study about what actually happens!!!
If the kid receives support during/after the traumatic event, they get stronger.
If the kid does not receive support during/after the traumatic event, they get fucked up.
True resilience in kids has ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS been the result of the support they receive.
i do therapy with teenagers. and...yeah. i have teenagers who's parents are amazing. and i have some who's...fucking...arent. and my GOD the difference. the ones whose parents are good have so much bounce it is INSANE. the ones who dont are so riddled with damage i want to wrap them in bubble wrap. here's the fun thing tho - the ones who dont? get better when you take care of them. i am literally watching it happen. like...if you take care of a traumatized kid? they fucking heal. they heal and gain resilliance right in front of you, like magic. is it as good as it could be if they got it from the start? no of course not. but is it still a miraculous amount of repair and strength? WOW YES! and adults can heal too! so dont ever think its too late to recover or that the support you get is cheating, its not! its part of what all kids, and you need to heal!

“It is a muggy August morning and the air in the room is still. Well over half the year has gone by already, which is a worry. I wanted to make something of myself this year. There’s still time, I think. Definitely some time.”
— Yrsa Daley-Ward, “The Terrible”

Remember that post? The one that said “what if we all have super powers but they’re so mundane we don’t realize?” That post? This is proof that post was right

It’s okay to be a beginner at the things you are interested in. There is no reason to feel intimidated by people more advanced than you are, because they too were in your place at one point. Keep learning and growing and expanding in whatever it is that you love and let nothing and no one stop you. You don’t have to be at the same stage as someone else. You can just be at your stage and that one is okay too.
Little achievements are important too! Yes, the ones that don’t sound impressive. Got out of bed? Eaten? Did something nice? Did some chores or homework? Went a little longer without relapsing? It’s all important! Be proud of your achievements, no matter how small.

shout out to Heartstopper for not allowing Nick's sexuality get steamrolled in the name of avoiding awkwardness or some other crappy excuse. Thank you for allowing him to correct people because respect for his identity matters more than avoiding whatever awkwardness may follow the correction. I have seen too many occasions where bisexual people will just accept people calling them gay or straight out of the desire to not cause tension.
I don't give a shit if you thought it was repetitive or cringe or whatever the fuck when Nick would say "I'm bi, actually." As someone who has been out as bisexual for a good number of years, shit like that means the absolute fucking world to me.
Thank you, Heartstopper for showing us that. Thank you, Kit for playing that role as well you have.
And to everyone else, have a great day and don't be a biphobic asshole.

yes i know heartstopper is "cringe" and yes I know you think it's not that deep but you've endured years of cringe oversexualized shows about high schoolers where the gays are delegated to sub plots I'm sure a few hours of queer people being safe and happy and loved won't kill you so please shut the fuck up
