I just find it interesting that the first time Frank sees Karen she's wearing a blouse with blue flowers that matches the dress in his dreams with Maria. I believe that wasn't intentional at all, unlike in the special where he actually puts them in the same hoodie in his visions. A hoodie that was probably his. I feel like in his mind these are the two people that see and accept Frank as who he is. People point this out as Frank having romantic feelings for Karen, which true I can't deny that. But I was thinking the other day, playing again with the light/dark contrast from those different versions, Frank is somehow mourning Karen. She's shown in the same dark hue as Maria. He feels like he's lost Karen, pushed her away, and he's not able to reach anymore the same way he can't reach out to Maria, and it's something that deeply affects him as much as Maria's death. Karen now occupies the same sacred place in Frank’s psyche that Maria does.
