Googling Job Candidates
While I believe that I am a strong advocate for one’s privacy, I strongly believe in intelligently or unintelligently exposing one’s self for everyone to see. Just as many of my peers in my classes as of now, many of us are able to talk a good game, seem like the most likeable people and above all; the most appropriate for a certain job we are being interviewed for. But while we can talk a good amount, action I believe is another story. This is a quintessential problem I believe that has been reoccurring for a long time, which created the need for probation periods. In an article by Chron, looking someone up on the internet can deem very time efficient. As a recruiter has to go through large amounts of resumes, determine if the candidate is truly committed and interested rather than just looking for a paycheque, and finding out if the candidate is at least up to date with what’s relevant and today’s work practices. Furthermore, there are tailored resumes that at first glance may suite a recruiter’s needs but may not be the case on their second glance. This is why I believe that looking someone up for a position is not only necessary but a need as a precaution against unnecessary “potential” hires.
