Always have dreams

In spirit of the upcoming finals, I’ve decided to kick off my “word of the day” series with a few terms and expressions that describe how many of us might feel approaching exam season.

Using your knowledge of the Korean alphabet, try to sound out the words yourself before peeking at the romanization!

1. 시험 (si heom) exam 2. 준비 (joon bi) prepare/preparation 3. 연습 (yeon seub) 4. 걱정 (geok jeong) worry 5. 스트레스 (seu teu reh seu) stress 6. 졸려 (jol lyeo) sleepy 7. 화이팅 (hwa yi ting) fighting! (Korean word to cheer people on/ you can do it!)

Daily Tip: Almost every language has “loan words” or words that are either directly or indirectly borrowed from another language and Korean is no exception. For example, you’ll notice that in the words above, “스트레스” (seu teu reh seu) sounds like the English word “stress”.
