Most of them have no idea they are suffering from it and consider it to be a normal thing, or worse something healthy.

We live in a culture that screams “body positivity” while condemning healthy individuals for not adhering to the horrifying standard set by our society. Forcing men and women into contorted shells.

Every day I count calories like my life depends on it and fear being found out, while the men I love in my life eat a bag of chips a day and get called normal.

I hear my best friend comment on his weight, and make plans to only eat a single bowl of cereal for the day because “if he was skinny then all of his problems would go away” because “then someone would love him”.

I ask the most important person in my life if he’s eaten and listen to him laugh as his stomach growls and he counts fucking energy drinks as food and feel his ribs when I hug him because “being bigger just doesn’t suit him”.

I watch my favorite male YouTubers make jokes about how they haven’t eaten in three days because they “want to reach a weightloss goal” and see comments telling them how they’re so well controlled and an inspiration to their followers.

I see a male coworker have a smoke and a bottle of water for lunch, then stand up and get so dizzy he almost faints.

I watch a roommate compare weight to his friend and see a flit of panic cross his face as his buddy reveals that he weighs less than him.

And the worst part? I can’t say anything to them about it.

It fucking destroys me.

I go to bed wondering if I’m going to wake up and find out one of the men I love are dead because they starved or worked himself to death.

I wake up wondering whether or not it’s ok to ask them if they’ve eaten and if I even have the right to call them out because I’d be a fucking hypocrite.

I listen to them laugh and be amazing and feel my stomach turn as I watch their faces get sallow and their skin turn pale and see them shiver in 90 degree weather because their bodies can’t sustain themselves anymore.

So to answer your fucking question, YES. Men of all walks of life, Straight, Bi, Ace, Gay, Trans, Aro, ect. ect. can and do suffer from anorexia!

It’s killing them just like it’s killing the women in your fucking life and because it’s never talked about I guarantee that none of them will ever try to get help!

This man, this god damned champion is recovering and making the never ending up hill battle to escape the inescapable, and he deserves to be praised and unquestionably respected.

So shut the fuck up and instead if wondering what his orientation is, take the time to seek out others and try to help them.

I have to sit here, crying as I type this, knowing I can’t help the men in my life anymore because I’m in the same boat as them.
