artemis calling jason little one is just amazonian for babygirl
The pervading concept that Bruce is "letting" Jason operate or holding back on him at all is so funny to me. How do you come to this conclusion. He has killed Jason visibly on panel multiple times. Like more than the Joker. There is no evidence to support Bruce LETTING Jason have or do anything. Every inch Jason takes is clawed from Bruce's white knuckled grip. Jason didn't luck his way into running Gothams underground, he's a tactical genius who played Bruce like a fucking fiddle using an updated version of Bruce's own plan and methods because Jason is competent and intelligent. The only reason Bruce wasn't blown up in his car is because Jason misses his dad. The only leverage he has to control Jason is Jason's desperate desire to be loved. Which he has used at least 3 times in recent memory to harm or kill Jason actually!!
Notably, for the sake of this conversation, it doesn't really matter if you think Bruce's behavior towards Jason is in character. Their relationship is inherently antagonistic and they are both aggressors towards each other, no matter how you slice it. What matters is that in canon, the text itself, is very clear in saying that Bruce would rather murder Jason himself than allow him to continue operating as Red Hood or acting on his own moral code. This is a consistent message from the narrative. You don't have to agree with the narrative, but that doesn't change what it is. To say that Bruce lets Jason get away with anything, that he holds back on Jason at all, that he has ever given Jason an inch that Jason didn't fight for - is in direct opposition to the text. Too many people state this reworking of the characters as a fact, that of course Bruce must be allowing Jason to operate, because how could someone like Jason get anything over Batman?? When in fact the ONLY way Bruce has managed to stop Jason from doing anything he wants to do IS murder or severe bodily harm.
This is a Jason-Todd-deserved-better propaganda blog btw

Thinking a lot about Bruce's fervent desire for Jason to settle down with a wife and kids the way he doesn't feel he never can and how that impacts Jason's queer coding. Like of all Bruce's kids Jason is the one he most wants to have that traditional domestic life. That's his dream for Jason. A thing Jason has literally never once showed interest in!! Yes Jason is fond of kids and prone to taking them in but the white picket fence life with a wife and biological children? Never something we really see him shoot for. Because its NOT what he wants. He doesn't want to bring kids into this life, he only takes in kids who are already involved. His one mainline civilian girlfriend had to pursue him and then they broke up because she got possessed by his ex a week later. Jason has no civilian identity and hasn't expressed a desire for one. Bruce literally lobotomized him so he could go live the life Bruce chose not to pursue and keeps making the choice to not pursue. Bruce thinks there is only one way for himself (and therefore also Jason) to be truly happy but he won't give up Batman because he perceives Batman as valuable and necessary but he barely sees Jason as a person so he has no qualms about enforcing his perception of what would make Jason happy (based on precisely zero evidence) to the degree of denying Jason personal choice and autonomy. The only version of Jason he loves totally and unconditionally is the made up trad husband version in his head that looks suspiciously like Bruce's own almost-happily ever after if HE hadn't sabotaged his relationship with Talia for the sake of Batman.
I donāt like talking about this but a lot of you have fucking lost the plot. How could you possibly derive that Tim was a victim in Jasonās death because the adults around Tim was talking shit bout the dead kid?
How could Tim the one whoās still alive possibly be the one ātrueā victim of Jasonās death? Please a lot of yāall use the argument that since nobody knew Jason was going to come back to life (utterly irrelevant by the way unless you genuinely believe that a personās humanity ends the day they take their last breath) that Jason shouldnāt be viewed as the one ātrueā victim of his own death. Like hello?? Are you hearing yourselves???
Timās superiority complex comes from his inferiority complex, simple as that. It doesnāt matter that the adults around him was grieving and āforcingā (referencing Jason because he literally just died?) him to be better than Jason- because even if they hadnāt Tim would still believe he is better than Jason- his tragedy is not that Jason died his tragedy is that he is terrified of being the ālesserā replacement. That doesnāt make him a victim of Jasonās death.
This reeks of a point Iāve brought up before, you infantilise Tim because he is the ideal victim. He takes his raging inferiority complex and convinces himself essentially that he is better than Jason because he would never die like that. He uses the trauma of Jasonās death to push his own ego. Or in other words be ābetter.ā He is the ideal victim of Jasonās death. Which shouldnāt be a sentence I have to say. But ALOT of you think that. Consciously or not a lot of you translate the tragedy of Jasonās death into a foot note into Timās development and it pisses me the fuck off.
Jason on the other hand the one who died came back angry, and to a lot of people that is somehow a fundamental flaw. (Of course that requires actively ignoring the systems that failed him and his justified anger towards them, but that would require viewing Jason as a human and obviously we canāt do that! Not if we want to antagonise him!) that his trauma and in the same vein his anger is āunidealā hence he is an unideal victim of his own demise. And obviously when he is not acting the way you expect a victim of a traumatic event to act you reassign whoās most affected by it to make him seem irrational- even more antagonistic to push your own biased narrative
Iām begging yall. Read the comics with your eyes OPEN, please.

here is something
"jason fans can't say jason did nothing wrong! he kills people!! he did awful things!!"
your problem is thinking i give a damn about morality in a fictional universe that's being reset every thursday because of some nonsensical space-time bullshit and where there are good billionaires who go out beating up common people bc his day went a little sideways and they are still somehow the "good guy" of the story.
jason should do worse.
Stupid thing I thought of drawing ages ago when I was watching fruit basket
Star Sapphire Jason and tentacle constructs #BringBackTentatodd
my issue with the āwould jason become a criminal without bruceā is that it ignores the reason jason already was a criminal
(this is his literal first appearance in his new origin story batman #408 and they point blank call him a crimimal btw)
anyway back to my point. jason already was a criminal because of poverty and it wasnāt necessarily that bruce taught him morals but that bruce gave him an environment where he didnāt have to resort to become a criminal
the issue with the debate is that it boils down to the whole āis jason an ontologically evil childā because thatās how people keep pushing it when they say yeah jason needed bruce to save him from being a criminal (but what they really mean is being a ~career criminal~ (for lack of better word)) without understanding the difference in their power dynamics. it glosses over why jason was a criminal.
panels from batman #409, including the last bit because i always found it funny jason pulled the disappearing act on batman HA
itās interesting because in these 2 chapters jason already shows strong disdain for the cops, rejects being a āstoolieā multiple times and reaffirms his rejection of social workers. but in this panel, jason emphasises that heās a kid. and that adults arenāt all to be trusted. which given his parental figures, ma gunn as well as batman fucking up and putting him in a ākindergarten for crimeā⦠well. you really canāt blame him.
#409 repeatedly point blank shows that jason isnāt a criminal because he wants to be. he leaves ma gunnās school at the first chance he got. he told batman about the planned heist. he also appeared at the scene because āsomebody had to stop itā (and also because he didnāt believe batman trusted him). this isnāt a child who turned to crime for a quick buck. but it was the only avenue he believed was available to him.
so yes, i have an issue because the debate ignores how he outright says he only does it for survival. it is classist because it outright ignores the structural realities that drive people towards being criminal and making it into a moral failing when the absence of these barriers results in very drastic differences in oneās decisions. it ignores the fact that thereās are different types and tiers of crimes (petty theft vs armed robbery, misdemeanours vs felonies) and the harms it poses. it refuses to acknowledge the power differentials and dynamics at play. it quite literally ignores canon (really, two issues is all you need to read! TWO!) in favour of pushing a very classist talking point where the rich needs to enlighten the poor and guide them to the path of goodness. so yes i have an issue with the debate because it frankly is rather disingenuous and generally is because theyāre trying to prop a character up in expense of another.
so yeah. i have an issue or two. maybe three.

"Victim blaming is a devaluing act that occurs when the victim(s) of a crime or an accident is held responsible-- in whole or in part-- for the crimes that have been committed against them. This blame can appear in the form of negative social responses from legal, medical, and mental health professionals, as well as from the media and immediate family members and other acquaintances."
So what do Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Alfred have to say about how Jason died?
Batman (1940) #428, Detective Comics (1937) #725
"You never listen."
Robin (1993) #0
"He took chances. Openly defied Batman's orders. And that's what killed him."
Batman (1940) #456
"I killed myself, Tim, because I couldn't wait. Because I didn't think it through."
Batman: Gotham Knights #44
"The lad was determined to disobey you."
It really is so frustrating how almost every retroactive Dickbin story is about adding depth and nuance and more exciting elements to play around with and every retroactive story for Jason is about making his character more shallow.
