I hate when people say stuff is good because of how heavy and solemn it is. The last thing I want is to be told "oh, this comic/show/book is the best book ever!" and then open it up and get jumpscared with the most brutal, depressing, hopeless agony ever experienced by humankind.
Portraying visceral, hyper-realistic abuse does not make your story "good". Portraying the realistic lack-of-a-happy-ending present in real-world oppression and bigotry does not make your story "good".
All it does is make it a PSA. If you want to draw attention to a real-world issue that badly, go become an activist.
When I sit down to enjoy a piece of fiction, it's because I want relief from the harsh reality we're stuck in, not have my face rubbed in it like a bad dog.
