*Akira melts like butter in Sojiro's embrace, pressing his face into his pseudo-father's shoulder and just... letting himself breathe. With his parents, he had to fight for scraps of affection no matter how well he behaved, but with Sojiro, love came freely as long as you treated him with the same respect he showed you.*
I love you, *he whispers, the words almost lost over the noise of Morgana's purrs.*
*They stay like that for a while, Akira dozing off to the comforting feeling of being held and rocked slowly, until Akira's eyes slip closed and he falls asleep against Sojiro, his breathing evening out and becoming slower, deeper. He doesn't stir when Morgana wriggles out between them with a huff, lost to the whims of sleep and the warmth of Sojiro's presence.*
hey.
*goro emerges from the kitchen, her eyes slightly red-rimmed and hair disheveled. in other words, she looks pretty rough. still, her posture is uncaring and her voice speaks of a deep confidence in whatever she's planning to talk to him about.*
is he asleep? you should let him sleep. he's been really tired lately, even before this, so you should...
*her hands are shaking. she sighs, shutting her mouth and simply staring down sojiro, who remains as steady and firm beside akira as ever despite her near-withering glare.*
(-- @crowgoro-blogs )
*Sojiro takes in her appearance, the way her voice shakes just enough to notice, and his gaze drifts down to her hands before he nods slowly and ensures Akira is fully asleep. Then, he gently maneuvers the sleeping boy back down to rest, making sure he's in a comfortable position and tucking him in with the blanket.*
You're bothered that I'm here to see him. Is it because you hate me?
*His voice is calm, not unkind, but he meets Goro's hard expression with his own unflinching stare, even as his hand remains resting on Akira's back to provide him some comfort.*
And don't lie. I've seen enough of Akira's past withdrawals and depressive episodes to know when somebody's keeping something from me.
*she scowls, looking away and lowering her head, her face effectively hidden behind her bangs. this is practically her in-law she's talking to. her in-law whose close friend she assassinated, mind you, so it would be in her best interests to stay amiable and mild towards him. alas.*
i'm bothered that you arrived at my living space near-unannounced, actually. the only reason i haven't kicked you out yet is because of him.
*she gestures at the sleeping akira. now that sojiro's studying her, he realises that her voice is lower than it usually is so as to not disturb the boy's rest.*
*Sojiro sighs, closing his eyes and nodding in acknowledgement. He did, in fact, barge into Goro's home uninvited, even if it was for good intentions. He nods, and tries to look Goro in the eyes, even though she's being avoidant.*
I accept that. And I apologize for doing so; I was worried for him and needed to make sure he was really okay. So many times he's told me that he's fine, he's fine, only for me to realize much too late that he'd been carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. But that's no excuse for me to barge in like I own the place, is it?
*He chuckles to himself. Akira stirs fitfully, his brows furrowing in his sleep, and Sojiro silently resumes stroking his back until Akira settles again and falls back asleep with a soft sigh.*
However... I'm glad to see you're taking care of him now. He always defended you, you know. Even when he was recovering from his interrogation and it finally came out that you tried to kill him... that boy would have defended you with his dying breath.
*Sojiro pauses, studying Goro's reaction to his words before he continues, his glasses slipping slightly down his nose.*
You've got a good one, Akechi. I hope you know that.
*she looks up, sniffing as her eyes finally meet sojiro's properly. they're glassy, as if she hasn't been blinking, or she's been holding back tears. she thinks back to all the things they've done together - endless darts games, billiards, the most infuriating 5d chess game with multiverse time travel, debates over text that left her feeling giddy the entire night. a good one, sojiro says. that doesn't even begin to describe akira.*
he's... yeah, *she mutters,* i... i know. i know.
*goro knows she's lucky to have had akira be an absolute freak attracted to people who attempted to murder him, but hearing it from someone else...*
i'm trying my best with him, sakura-san.
*Sojiro's expression softens imperceptibly, his eyes annoyingly understanding and kind. He adjusts his glasses and ensures Akira is still sleeping peacefully before he speaks again.*
I know. I will admit... it took me time to get used to the idea of him dating you. I thought he'd wind up heartbroken, abandoned, but he texts me every day telling me how wonderful you are and how happy he is with you.
*He looks down at Akira fondly, brushing his hair back out of his face, and adjusting the blanket where it had slipped off when Akira had fidgeted earlier.*
So... I'm trusting you to look after him when I can't.

Sojiro, thoughts in pineapple pizza? 🤔
i'm not into it. there are ways to have a good sweet-savoury meal, and adding hot fruit on top of a pizza is not one of them.
classic pizzas like pepperoni and four-cheese, you can tell what they want to do with the flavours. you've got your pepperoni paired with a mild cheese like mozzarella to balance out the meat's kick, and four-cheese is... four-cheese. pineapple on pizza has no such harmony between the ingredients!
if you like pineapple on your pizza, that's... fine, but i'd never make or eat such a thing.
boss why are you a catboy as your pfp.
futaba told me it'd bring in customers. is it working yet?

I wonder if 420 calories anon was making reference to the weed number, trying to be funny maybe? If not, that’s definitely concerning, I hope they are okay.
oh, weed is fiiine. 👍. if that was the case they shouldn't have given me a damn heart attack though...
i hope they're okay too.
*Akira flinches, snapping out of his trance rather violently. His wide dark gray eyes dart up to look at Goro, and he looks confused as to why Goro's still here.* You don't... shouldn't you be leaving me here? Kicking me out of your apartment and telling Sojiro I need to live with him now? *His voice is small, wavering, and he doesn't meet Goro's gaze after brief eye contact with her.*
*she seems disgusted at the mere idea, simply extending a hand to help akira up. she doesn't want to think about where he learnt this mindset of his, that he could ever be something someone could just throw away when he gets 'difficult'. her voice is flat as she says,*
what the fuck are you talking about. we're going home to get you comfortable and rested.
*she looks back at takemi for a moment, who's keeping the door back to the lobby open for them. goro sighs and kneels down to catch akira's gaze.*
i'm... um, takemi's waiting for us to go. you're keeping her waiting.
(-- @crowgoro-blogs) (old thread fucking shits itself whenever i try to scroll on the notification😢)
*Akira stares at Goro for a moment longer, as if expecting her to drop the act at any time and just leave him once he tries to get himself upright. When Goro arches her brow pointedly, Akira tentatively pushes himself off of the cot and tries to stand, but fails and collapses hard against Goro.*
Shit... fuck, I'm sorry...
*He tries to pull himself up, and practically latches onto the crutch Takemi hands him like it's his one salvation.*
no, it's...
*well, goro, you can't apologise now. you've already been an absolute dick to your partner, it would be hollow. she straightens up and follows akira out of the clinic, hovering as he attempts hobbling down the building's steps. she's mildly relieved when he reaches the pavement without incident, but rushes to his side once more as he sways.*
will i call another taxi?
You'll probably have to...
*Akira grits out, not because he's upset, but because the agony is overwhelming. He shifts his weight to keep his injured leg off the ground, his bangs falling into his face as his breaths become shallow and labored. Goro can tell he's trying to regain his usual flippant attitude and confidence, but Akira's obviously still shaken by the diagnosis and whatever nonsense is rattling around in that stubborn head of his.*
hey, look, just--
*goro moves closer, enough so that akira can lean on her as well as the crutch but simultaneously keep personal space between them. she looks around for a bench, but the streets of yongen-jaya are apparently too narrow or unimportant for the government to care about such trivial things such as ease of moving around for disabled people. the notion that akira will have to live in a world that has such little care for his needs just makes her sick.*
let's sit on the steps, i'll call one now but it'll probably take a while to get here. and we need to talk.
*Akira freezes at the tone of her voice—surely she's now going to break up with him, tell him that she just can't date a guy who can't even walk properly. Mutely, he nods and with a painful effort, sits down on the steps with a soft sigh, setting his crutch down beside him as he braces himself mentally.*
*goro sits beside him, hand instinctively reaching out to to grasp his but stops just short of it, their fingertips barely brushing. she rests her chin on her knee, angling herself towards akira. when she finally looks him in the eye, it's him who directs his entire attention to the floor. she considers her options: suck it up and say sorry, yell at akira some more, or chicken out and stay silent?*
... i must apologise. it was wrong of me to allow my emotions to get in the way and cloud over the fact that you were, are, in pain.
*Blinking in surprise, Akira lifts his head to stare at Goro, his dark gray eyes wide. He looks down at where their fingers brush softly against each other's, and tentatively reaches out to put his shaking hand in hers.*
It's... it's okay. I guess I just... wasn't expecting to have such a horrible diagnosis...
*The words come out halted and fragmented, like Akira is trying to remain in the moment even as his mind drifts away from his body due to the pain. Before Goro can respond, Akira rests his head on her shoulder and squeezes her hand, hard, seeking comfort to ease his distress, both physical and emotional. His body quivers with the effort of holding back more tears as he feels so incredibly helpless.*
*she jerks at the sudden contact, lips pressing into a thin line, but she stays still. not a single thing is normal anymore, so she can handle giving some physical comfort. she turns slightly to awkward hug akira with the hand not currently in a death grip, her voice muffled into akira's hair. the steps of the clinic are dirtied with the footsteps of others, but not a single person could even imagine where the two of them are right now, their own bubble of the world.*
i'll stay with you forever, don't lie to me fearing otherwise. i can tell you aren't saying what you really think. oh, does it hurt worse when you sit? i can help you back up, or we can take the pills now or something...?
*her shoulders are tense with uncertainty, and her voice pitches higher and higher as it becomes evident that this effort is her trying to make up for the past couple of hellish hours.*
*Akira shakes his head against her shoulder, finally managing to relax his grip on Goro's hand, though he still clings to it. Her words, 'I'll stay with you forever', makes his chest loosen enough for him to breathe properly, and his shaking subsides after another moment.*
It hurts worse to stand, *he says quietly, his voice slightly muffled by her shirt.* And I don't have anything to swallow the pills down with, so I'll just take them when we get home.
*He feels that slow sinking feeling in his stomach, that twisting of guilt. He felt Goro jerk at his touch, and he hates that he forgot how much she prefers not to be touched, especially without warning. He wishes he could switch off his need for physical contact, the habit brought on by Sojiro encouraging him to seek hugs whenever he needed to, just so he could make Goro feel better.*
oh, okay. we can stay sitting then.
*it's weird. the balance between them has been sent careening, but to whose favour, it's hard to tell. she shifts again, trying to find a less odd angle for the hug, but gives up and knocks her forehead against akira's shoulder with a groan. she squeezes akira's hand again as if trying to communicate that she doesn't mind the hug, really, as long as it's beneficial for him.*
i can't wait until we get home and we can hug in a proper seat. this is such a weird position. imagine if sakura-san sees us or something...
*Akira snorts softly at Goro's words, unable to help himself.*
He's not that old-fashioned. And besides, even if he did see us... I think he'd be more concerned over the fact that I have a crutch with me.
*He goes quiet for a moment, letting his eyes close as he relishes in the comfort of their cuddle. Then, he lifts his head and presses a soft kiss to her hair, a silent acknowledgement of all that Goro's done for him thus far, and a gratefulness for her still staying with him, even though he's crippled.*
*goro leans further into him, her back beginning to protest from bending in such a way. whatever. akira was laughing again. the sound of a car begins to filter through the warmth of the moment, and she straightens up slightly, stretching her arms in preparation of carrying akira into the taxi again. no longer afraid of scaring akira away with a twitch of her eye, her face melts into something more natural and real.*
we're fine, aren't we? we'll be fine. carry your crutch and i'll lift you into the car.
*Akira sees it, the way Goro's expression softens and the way her eyes hold warmth and what could even be described as love and care, and he relaxes with a soft sigh. He nods and grabs it from his side, holding it against his chest as Goro bends down to scoop him up. He braces himself with an arm around her neck, and tries to breathe through it when she accidentally jostles the still aching leg, knowing it's not her fault.*
Yeah... we'll be fine. And we are.
*He pauses, then looks up at her through his bangs and his voice lowers to an almost whisper.*
Thank you... I love you.
*goro's eyes widen, but she doesn't respond until they're settled into the taxi. a blurry mosaic of grey and green are her backdrop, rain beginning to fall just when they're out of its grasp, as her words are almost stolen away by the engine.*
i love you too, joker.
*Akira has butterflies for the rest of the taxi ride, having caught Goro's words at the last second. However, Akira falls asleep during the trip back to their house, exhausted from the emotional strain and physical strain his body is suffering from. When he wakes up again, he's resting on the couch with his favorite blanket draped over him, pillows beneath his head, and his injured leg propped up on some cushions. Morgana is also there, curled up on his chest and purring louder than a goddamn motorboat.*
*the sunset glow is dimmed by rain pattering against the windows, the sound nearly lulling akira back to sleep until goro makes a frustrated noise from the kitchen. the scent of something faintly burnt wafting into the living space, without realising akira's awake at all, she shouts,*
for fucks' sake, morgana, shut up! i can hear you from here, you'll disturb joker!
*Akira fights the urge to laugh out loud at Goro's irritated yell, finding it more amusing than annoying. He reaches a hand from underneath the blanket and scritches Morgana under the chin, earning a pleased 'mrrp' and an even louder purr.*
Good boy, Morgana, making sure I slept well.
*He whispers the words, a sleepy smile on his face. Watching Morgana stretch out and then curl up again, tail brushing his small nose, Akira feels a swell of fondness. Even though Goro and Morgana didn't quite like each other, they tolerated each other's presence because they both loved Akira. Akira rubs behind Morgana's flicking ears for a second before he says, just loud enough to be heard:*
Goro...?
*her head pops out from the kitchen doorway, then she scrambles to turn off the stove and rush to his side. well, I wouldn't say rush, more like a brisk walk, or an urgent stride, well i wouldn't say urgent either but she's there in seconds, focus entirely on him. the burnt smell hasn't gone away.*
you're awake. welcome back to what we humans call the land of the living, joker.
*her words are delivered with a slight smirk, but her posture is that of one unsure of their place. she steals glances at akira's leg and gets into a very subtle staring match with morgana as she waits for akira to reply.*
*Morgana stares at Goro back, his tail flicking lazily even as his pupils narrow. Akira tries to push himself up into a better sitting position, only to practically whimper when the nerves in his leg flare up in protest. Instinctively, he covers his mouth with his hand to stifle it before it gets any louder.*
Ugh... sorry. I just... I just wanted to see if you were okay. You sounded a little frazzled when you yelled at Mona.
*He hesitates, then looks up at Goro, his bangs falling into his eyes.*
Can I... help with anything?
*goro looks at akira like he's grown a second head before she turns her chin up and promptly heads back into the kitchen.*
absolutely not! that's an absurd question, joker, did you get a concussion when you fell down the stairs too? i have everything under control.
*there is a loud clatter of... something, against the floor, but goro only laughs borderline maniacally without any further comment. in a sing-song voice, she calls from the kitchen,*
if i see you standing at all for the rest of today, i'll kill you~!
*Akira's neck prickles at the threat; she's being serious. Morgana hears it too, his ears flattening before he gets up and stretches, batting a paw at Akira's cheek affectionately.*
I'm gonna make sure h— she doesn't burn down the kitchen, *he grumbles before bumping his head against Akira's fingers and jumping down from the couch. Tail held aloft, Morgana stalks into the kitchen, and Akira can practically see the glare Goro must have right now.*
*Giggling to himself, Akira lets himself flop back down on the couch, carefully avoiding moving his swollen leg, and he stares up at the ceiling of the living room. He wonders how he ever got so lucky with Goro, despite their rocky beginnings, and then his phone buzzes on the coffee table, lighting up with a notification from Sojiro.*
*goro screeches something about kitchen hygiene violations, YOU STUPID CAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN YOU'LL SHED FUR EVERYWHERE YOU FUCKING but after a while, both her and morgana emerge from the kitchen with only slightly burnt and uneven homemade pancakes.*
okay, dinner is served!
*she presents the meal to akira with a slight flourish reminiscent of her robin hood mask, but falters when she notices akira's intent staring at his phone.*
joker?
Huh?
*Akira distractedly looks up at Goro, then realizes she's brought food and is staring at him.*
Oh shit—sorry. I, um. Got distracted. I was... telling Sojiro what happened today.
*Akira goes quiet again, looking back at his phone, which has started to chime incessantly. There's an unreadable look on his face, which only worries Goro further, then his eyes widen.*
Um. Do you mind if we have an unexpected guest...?
*He asks the question sheepishly, as if said unexpected guest was already on his way over and wasn't about to take no for an answer.*
*she raises a brow, leaning over to peek at akira's phone. 'boss'? great, okay. what a trek. she doesn't particularly want sojiro sakura in her apartment, but akira seems... rather optimistic about the idea.*
do i really have a choice, or are you merely asking for formalities?
Not really... he's already on his way. I imagine he left as soon as I texted him that I was hurt. I didn't want to lie to him—he saw us by Takemi's clinic and he was worried.
*Akira still looks incredibly sheepish, his head lowered.*
Sojiro... he gets really uppity when I get hurt in any way. He once closed Leblanc in the middle of the day because I burned myself with coffee by accident.
*He looks back up at Goro, looking like he's asking for forgiveness rather than permission at this point. His phone is still clutched in his hands, now being swarmed with texts by Futaba, and Morgana jumps back onto the couch to knead his paws in the blanket.*
*she sighs and rubs her temples in a show of (mostly) faux-exasperation, but eventually nods and shuffles onto the couch beside akira. she's glad akira has a family. she's jealous glad akira has people he can rely on and trust. she's glad he has a good paternal figure now. she's glad. she is so glad. you can feel how glad she is through the text, in fact, that's how fucking glad she is.*
as long as isshiki isn't joining us.
*she doesn't bother correcting herself as the name slips out. still, she pushes the plate of (only slightly dubious-looking) pancakes towards akira expectantly.*
*Akira finally sets his phone down and nods, taking the plate and taking a bite of the pancakes. The sight of them didn't deter him, but the imagined taste did. However, when that first bite settled in, pancakes and whipped cream and blueberries and all, Akira closed in his eyes in bliss. He ignored the slightly burnt aftertaste; it was heaven, and he was starving. Within minutes, the plate was clean, and Akira nearly started eating all the crumbs before Goro took it away with an amused huff.*
Futaba's staying home to watch over everything. She prefers it that way; she was just worried that Sojiro left all of a sudden.
*Akira pauses, swallowing the last bite, before studying Goro.*
Honey... are you upset?
*goro pauses, halfway through standing up to wash the plate. she straightens herself up, then looks back at akira, her expression one of mild curiosity. it's the sort of face you'd attribute to a royal; a prince, even. not goro, not anymore.*
no, i'm not. i'll leave the door unlocked for sakura-san to operate himself when he arrives, otherwise i'll leave you both to your own devices, that's all. just for some space, yes?
*she leans back in to peck akira on the cheek, then retreats back into the kitchen without giving akira the chance to get a word in sideways against her. she reappears to unlock the door, then once again disappears without saying a word or so much as looking at him.*
She's pissed.
*Akira says it half to himself, half to Morgana, who is glaring after Goro with an irritated flick of his tail.*
I shouldn't have told Sojiro what happened; then he wouldn't be coming over and Goro wouldn't be upset at me and—
*He feels the panic rising in his chest and he jerks his leg by accident, sending a fresh wave of agony up his thigh and making him hiss. He forces himself to breathe, to tamp down the stress before it has a chance to make him feel worse, but he's interrupted by a sharp knock on the door, and he lifts his head, almost trying to get up to answer it before he remembers his girlfriend's threat.*
*he knocks again, but the door creaks open at his touch. at first he's surprised about that, but then he sees the state akira is in and understands. closing the front door behind him, sojiro steps inside the apartment, annoyingly more careful in all his movements. he looks akira up and down, skeptical but sympathetic. with a gruff chuckle, he mutters,*
akechi didn't do this to you, did she?
No, no! It was... it's complicated. But she didn't hurt me.
*Despite this, Akira glances nervously at the kitchen doorway, knowing that Goro's likely brooding while listening to them talk. His gaze drifts downward to his lap, then to his discolored leg, and his hair falls into his face.*
I don't know. It... it feels like every time we move forward in our relationship and I feel her opening up to me... something happens and we take three steps back.
*He glances back up at Sojiro, his dark gray eyes shimmering with unshed tears.*
But... thank you for coming, even if I didn't ask for you to.
*he nods, sitting on the sofa's armrest. he reaches out to ruffle akira's hair for a moment, careful not to do anything that would shake the raven-haired teen.*
of course. you're family and all that crap, aren't you?
*pulling his hand away, sojiro looks akira right in the eye. it's not menacing, it's not interrogatory, but the blood oath of the hieropjant thrums beneath akira's skin as the eye contact holds.*
you're being taken care of well here, huh? to be honest with you, i was worried you'd be ... in a lot worse shape.
*Akira's chest feels warm when Sojiro ruffles his hair, and he fidgets with the edge of his blanket, but he maintains the eye contact. Sojiro's eye contact always feels firm, but kind, as his sternness is always a mask for how he's really feeling. But he knows what Sojiro is referring to, and he freezes as it settles in.*
*Memories flood his mind: the threats, the drugs, him curling up in a corner after being forced to sign that damned confession and after the officer threatened to break his leg... the slaps across the face when he couldn't speak, it all comes back in one overwhelming rush. But Sojiro has no clue about Akira's Palace and Shadow, so it's only natural for him to assume the injuries were leftover from the interrogation room.*
*Akira's inhales become shaky and trembling and he nods, his throat feeling tight.*
Yeah... but I do miss you. And Futaba.
*He pauses, forcing his voice to steady.*
...Have my parents talked to you at all?
what?
*sojiro frowns in confusion, seeming to think back the past month or so for any communication with the elder kurusus. the sky outside is twilight-purple, the bustling of salarymen and evening students audible from outside.*
no, i don't think so. even during your probation, your folks didn't reach out much, and they don't have any reason to now that you're pardoned and all. it's not like you ran away or anything, did you?
...Right.
*Akira looks away again, trying not to feel devastated that his parents hadn't even reached out to Sojiro to ensure that he got back to Yongen-Jaya safely. He shouldn't expect them to care, but it stings nonetheless.*
And I didn't run away. They kicked me out again.
*Morgana senses Akira's rising tension and meows, at least to Sojiro's ears, and plops down in his lap to curl up and start purring again. Akira absently rubs behind the not-cat's ears, trying to swallow down the taste of bile rising in the back of his throat.*
I was going to go back to Leblanc, but... things happened with Goro and she offered to let me live with her.
seriously? they kicked you out?
*he pulls akira into a loose sidehug, but his eyes stare off into space. maybe he's cataloguing the apartment, or maybe he's just that pissed. either way, his grip tightens on akira until he speaks again.*
they're assholes. they've got a son they don't deserve and just send him away twice like you're nothing. goddamn idiots.
it was good of akechi to offer, but you know you can always swing by leblanc if you ever miss your rock slab of a futon, right?
*it reads like an attempt to lighten the mood, but sojiro's eyes are dark and his tone gets rougher.*
i can call them. give them a damn piece of my mind...
No, it's fine. I was just... curious, I guess.
*Akira leans into the hug, but his voice sounds unconvincing even to himself. Morgana purrs louder, kneading both of their laps as he's sandwiched between them in an attempt to comfort. Akira closes his eyes, resting his head on Sojiro's shoulder as he hears Goro moving around in the kitchen.*
Sojiro? *he asks, his voice small. When Sojiro hums in acknowledgement, Akira continues.* I'm glad my parents sent me to live with you. You're... you're seriously the best dad I could ever ask for.
*his eyes widen behind his glasses, and akira feels both of sojiro's arms squeezing around him as the older man smiles. morgana yowls in objection to being squished, but neither really care, especially not sojiro who can only hear meows no matter what the cat says.*
i'm glad too. you've been a good kid. and you're always welcome in my home, got it? consider it my repayment to you for preventing the end of the world twice.
is 420 calories per day too little?
you've got to be kidding. 420 calories is perfect for maybe a dog to eat.
for us humans, 420 calories is just about enough to power your brain at resting rate for a day. unless you're one of those freaky minds in a jar, anon, you need a lot more than that!
What’s your opinion on Starbucks and other chain coffee shops like it?
they're fine if you're in a rush. people who work busy jobs with strict hours don't usually have the free time my average client has, but they deserve some caffeine when they need it too.
personally, i think chain coffee has shit drinks that's made up of milk more than actually coffee and sells them for an absurd price while overworking and underpaying their employees, especially the rare ones who actually manage to make a good coffee every now and then. try to avoid them as much as possible and your stomach will thank you.
