this is goro akechi. i've created a tumblr blog (for myself and not for anyone else!). enjoy your time here, or don't, i don't care. also i'm a trans girl, proof here.
after maruki's defeat... well, things changed. the metaverse was momentarily gone, until the resident wildcard ( @akira-offical ) developed a palace. that's gone now though! thank the gods. also, wait, what do you mean joker and i are dating?!
however, life goes on. i'll post the goings on around me, occasionally accompanied by joker, and answer any burning questions you may have.
(i'll let you in on a secret - the metaverse fucking hates me. maruki's tampering with my meant-to-be-very-dead soul has left my persona, hereward, shattered and unpredictable...)
completed long rp threads:
akira's palace 1 2 3
missing hereward 1
post magical girl (this sounds insane) 1
akira's leg 1 2
β‘ feel free to send an ask or dm here or on my main, @gmtgab (any prns idgaf) if i do something odd!
β‘ all pics shared on here will probably be mine and if they aren't i'll say so.<3
β‘ ooc stuff will most likely be in tags and not in the main post! crossed-out text is less ooc and more goro's truthful thoughts/wishes she doesn't voice.
β‘ this rp blog is specifically post-3rd sem/maruki!
β‘ also if it wasn't clear i can totally do metaverse stuff, just... with a really trippy persona :p if you wanna take that as a palace or akechi being just some gal unsure of her identity idgaf i'll play along and enjoy it ofc but i won't start anything xd
β‘ i have a joker so pls dont start long rps as joker thatll mess my lore up lol. sorry! you can send asks as them from another universe tho! love that shit.
β‘ interactions, whether you're another rp blog or not, is superrrr encouraged! i'll play along with anything other than full on sex rp, and other nsfw asks are allowed.
β‘ canon-typical descs of coercion, abuse, loss of free will, etc will probably come up at some point. goro also struggles with bpd + psychosis (from call of chaos) which will be an undertone to ny characterisation of her throughout the blog.
β‘ i'm irish so a lot of this blog might just be me larping being japanese and trying to pass off the irish landscape as places in japan where goro went... lol sorry japan
i'll make this cute in a while i gave up on making it cute. this is good enough.

*Akira melts like butter in Sojiro's embrace, pressing his face into his pseudo-father's shoulder and just... letting himself breathe. With his parents, he had to fight for scraps of affection no matter how well he behaved, but with Sojiro, love came freely as long as you treated him with the same respect he showed you.*
I love you, *he whispers, the words almost lost over the noise of Morgana's purrs.*
*They stay like that for a while, Akira dozing off to the comforting feeling of being held and rocked slowly, until Akira's eyes slip closed and he falls asleep against Sojiro, his breathing evening out and becoming slower, deeper. He doesn't stir when Morgana wriggles out between them with a huff, lost to the whims of sleep and the warmth of Sojiro's presence.*
hey.
*goro emerges from the kitchen, her eyes slightly red-rimmed and hair disheveled. in other words, she looks pretty rough. still, her posture is uncaring and her voice speaks of a deep confidence in whatever she's planning to talk to him about.*
is he asleep? you should let him sleep. he's been really tired lately, even before this, so you should...
*her hands are shaking. she sighs, shutting her mouth and simply staring down sojiro, who remains as steady and firm beside akira as ever despite her near-withering glare.*
(-- @crowgoro-blogs )
*Sojiro takes in her appearance, the way her voice shakes just enough to notice, and his gaze drifts down to her hands before he nods slowly and ensures Akira is fully asleep. Then, he gently maneuvers the sleeping boy back down to rest, making sure he's in a comfortable position and tucking him in with the blanket.*
You're bothered that I'm here to see him. Is it because you hate me?
*His voice is calm, not unkind, but he meets Goro's hard expression with his own unflinching stare, even as his hand remains resting on Akira's back to provide him some comfort.*
And don't lie. I've seen enough of Akira's past withdrawals and depressive episodes to know when somebody's keeping something from me.
*she scowls, looking away and lowering her head, her face effectively hidden behind her bangs. this is practically her in-law she's talking to. her in-law whose close friend she assassinated, mind you, so it would be in her best interests to stay amiable and mild towards him. alas.*
i'm bothered that you arrived at my living space near-unannounced, actually. the only reason i haven't kicked you out yet is because of him.
*she gestures at the sleeping akira. now that sojiro's studying her, he realises that her voice is lower than it usually is so as to not disturb the boy's rest.*
*Sojiro sighs, closing his eyes and nodding in acknowledgement. He did, in fact, barge into Goro's home uninvited, even if it was for good intentions. He nods, and tries to look Goro in the eyes, even though she's being avoidant.*
I accept that. And I apologize for doing so; I was worried for him and needed to make sure he was really okay. So many times he's told me that he's fine, he's fine, only for me to realize much too late that he'd been carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. But that's no excuse for me to barge in like I own the place, is it?
*He chuckles to himself. Akira stirs fitfully, his brows furrowing in his sleep, and Sojiro silently resumes stroking his back until Akira settles again and falls back asleep with a soft sigh.*
However... I'm glad to see you're taking care of him now. He always defended you, you know. Even when he was recovering from his interrogation and it finally came out that you tried to kill him... that boy would have defended you with his dying breath.
*Sojiro pauses, studying Goro's reaction to his words before he continues, his glasses slipping slightly down his nose.*
You've got a good one, Akechi. I hope you know that.
*she looks up, sniffing as her eyes finally meet sojiro's properly. they're glassy, as if she hasn't been blinking, or she's been holding back tears. she thinks back to all the things they've done together - endless darts games, billiards, the most infuriating 5d chess game with multiverse time travel, debates over text that left her feeling giddy the entire night. a good one, sojiro says. that doesn't even begin to describe akira.*
he's... yeah, *she mutters,* i... i know. i know.
*goro knows she's lucky to have had akira be an absolute freak attracted to people who attempted to murder him, but hearing it from someone else...*
initially i was going to say akechi because william afton lacks a certain funky flow that resonates in the hearts of many. but upon further investigation, i realize that while akechiβs rhymes may be incredibly potent, william afton Always comes back.
*Akira flinches, snapping out of his trance rather violently. His wide dark gray eyes dart up to look at Goro, and he looks confused as to why Goro's still here.*
You don't... shouldn't you be leaving me here? Kicking me out of your apartment and telling Sojiro I need to live with him now?
*His voice is small, wavering, and he doesn't meet Goro's gaze after brief eye contact with her.*
*she seems disgusted at the mere idea, simply extending a hand to help akira up. she doesn't want to think about where he learnt this mindset of his, that he could ever be something someone could just throw away when he gets 'difficult'. her voice is flat as she says,*
what the fuck are you talking about. we're going home to get you comfortable and rested.
*she looks back at takemi for a moment, who's keeping the door back to the lobby open for them. goro sighs and kneels down to catch akira's gaze.*
i'm... um, takemi's waiting for us to go. you're keeping her waiting.
(-- @crowgoro-blogs) (old thread fucking shits itself whenever i try to scroll on the notificationπ’)
*Akira stares at Goro for a moment longer, as if expecting her to drop the act at any time and just leave him once he tries to get himself upright. When Goro arches her brow pointedly, Akira tentatively pushes himself off of the cot and tries to stand, but fails and collapses hard against Goro.*
Shit... fuck, I'm sorry...
*He tries to pull himself up, and practically latches onto the crutch Takemi hands him like it's his one salvation.*
*well, goro, you can't apologise now. you've already been an absolute dick to your partner, it would be hollow. she straightens up and follows akira out of the clinic, hovering as he attempts hobbling down the building's steps. she's mildly relieved when he reaches the pavement without incident, but rushes to his side once more as he sways.*
*Akira grits out, not because he's upset, but because the agony is overwhelming. He shifts his weight to keep his injured leg off the ground, his bangs falling into his face as his breaths become shallow and labored. Goro can tell he's trying to regain his usual flippant attitude and confidence, but Akira's obviously still shaken by the diagnosis and whatever nonsense is rattling around in that stubborn head of his.*
*goro moves closer, enough so that akira can lean on her as well as the crutch but simultaneously keep personal space between them. she looks around for a bench, but the streets of yongen-jaya are apparently too narrow or unimportant for the government to care about such trivial things such as ease of moving around for disabled people. the notion that akira will have to live in a world that has such little care for his needs just makes her sick.*
let's sit on the steps, i'll call one now but it'll probably take a while to get here. and we need to talk.
*Akira freezes at the tone of her voiceβsurely she's now going to break up with him, tell him that she just can't date a guy who can't even walk properly. Mutely, he nods and with a painful effort, sits down on the steps with a soft sigh, setting his crutch down beside him as he braces himself mentally.*
*goro sits beside him, hand instinctively reaching out to to grasp his but stops just short of it, their fingertips barely brushing. she rests her chin on her knee, angling herself towards akira. when she finally looks him in the eye, it's him who directs his entire attention to the floor. she considers her options: suck it up and say sorry, yell at akira some more, or chicken out and stay silent?*
... i must apologise. it was wrong of me to allow my emotions to get in the way and cloud over the fact that you were, are, in pain.
*Blinking in surprise, Akira lifts his head to stare at Goro, his dark gray eyes wide. He looks down at where their fingers brush softly against each other's, and tentatively reaches out to put his shaking hand in hers.*
It's... it's okay. I guess I just... wasn't expecting to have such a horrible diagnosis...
*The words come out halted and fragmented, like Akira is trying to remain in the moment even as his mind drifts away from his body due to the pain. Before Goro can respond, Akira rests his head on her shoulder and squeezes her hand, hard, seeking comfort to ease his distress, both physical and emotional. His body quivers with the effort of holding back more tears as he feels so incredibly helpless.*
*she jerks at the sudden contact, lips pressing into a thin line, but she stays still. not a single thing is normal anymore, so she can handle giving some physical comfort. she turns slightly to awkward hug akira with the hand not currently in a death grip, her voice muffled into akira's hair. the steps of the clinic are dirtied with the footsteps of others, but not a single person could even imagine where the two of them are right now, their own bubble of the world.*
i'll stay with you forever, don't lie to me fearing otherwise. i can tell you aren't saying what you really think. oh, does it hurt worse when you sit? i can help you back up, or we can take the pills now or something...?
*her shoulders are tense with uncertainty, and her voice pitches higher and higher as it becomes evident that this effort is her trying to make up for the past couple of hellish hours.*
*Akira shakes his head against her shoulder, finally managing to relax his grip on Goro's hand, though he still clings to it. Her words, 'I'll stay with you forever', makes his chest loosen enough for him to breathe properly, and his shaking subsides after another moment.*
It hurts worse to stand, *he says quietly, his voice slightly muffled by her shirt.* And I don't have anything to swallow the pills down with, so I'll just take them when we get home.
*He feels that slow sinking feeling in his stomach, that twisting of guilt. He felt Goro jerk at his touch, and he hates that he forgot how much she prefers not to be touched, especially without warning. He wishes he could switch off his need for physical contact, the habit brought on by Sojiro encouraging him to seek hugs whenever he needed to, just so he could make Goro feel better.*
*it's weird. the balance between them has been sent careening, but to whose favour, it's hard to tell. she shifts again, trying to find a less odd angle for the hug, but gives up and knocks her forehead against akira's shoulder with a groan. she squeezes akira's hand again as if trying to communicate that she doesn't mind the hug, really, as long as it's beneficial for him.*
i can't wait until we get home and we can hug in a proper seat. this is such a weird position. imagine if sakura-san sees us or something...
*Akira snorts softly at Goro's words, unable to help himself.*
He's not that old-fashioned. And besides, even if he did see us... I think he'd be more concerned over the fact that I have a crutch with me.
*He goes quiet for a moment, letting his eyes close as he relishes in the comfort of their cuddle. Then, he lifts his head and presses a soft kiss to her hair, a silent acknowledgement of all that Goro's done for him thus far, and a gratefulness for her still staying with him, even though he's crippled.*
*goro leans further into him, her back beginning to protest from bending in such a way. whatever. akira was laughing again. the sound of a car begins to filter through the warmth of the moment, and she straightens up slightly, stretching her arms in preparation of carrying akira into the taxi again. no longer afraid of scaring akira away with a twitch of her eye, her face melts into something more natural and real.*
we're fine, aren't we? we'll be fine. carry your crutch and i'll lift you into the car.
*Akira sees it, the way Goro's expression softens and the way her eyes hold warmth and what could even be described as love and care, and he relaxes with a soft sigh. He nods and grabs it from his side, holding it against his chest as Goro bends down to scoop him up. He braces himself with an arm around her neck, and tries to breathe through it when she accidentally jostles the still aching leg, knowing it's not her fault.*
Yeah... we'll be fine. And we are.
*He pauses, then looks up at her through his bangs and his voice lowers to an almost whisper.*
*goro's eyes widen, but she doesn't respond until they're settled into the taxi. a blurry mosaic of grey and green are her backdrop, rain beginning to fall just when they're out of its grasp, as her words are almost stolen away by the engine.*
*Akira has butterflies for the rest of the taxi ride, having caught Goro's words at the last second. However, Akira falls asleep during the trip back to their house, exhausted from the emotional strain and physical strain his body is suffering from. When he wakes up again, he's resting on the couch with his favorite blanket draped over him, pillows beneath his head, and his injured leg propped up on some cushions. Morgana is also there, curled up on his chest and purring louder than a goddamn motorboat.*
*the sunset glow is dimmed by rain pattering against the windows, the sound nearly lulling akira back to sleep until goro makes a frustrated noise from the kitchen. the scent of something faintly burnt wafting into the living space, without realising akira's awake at all, she shouts,*
for fucks' sake, morgana, shut up! i can hear you from here, you'll disturb joker!
*Akira fights the urge to laugh out loud at Goro's irritated yell, finding it more amusing than annoying. He reaches a hand from underneath the blanket and scritches Morgana under the chin, earning a pleased 'mrrp' and an even louder purr.*
Good boy, Morgana, making sure I slept well.
*He whispers the words, a sleepy smile on his face. Watching Morgana stretch out and then curl up again, tail brushing his small nose, Akira feels a swell of fondness. Even though Goro and Morgana didn't quite like each other, they tolerated each other's presence because they both loved Akira. Akira rubs behind Morgana's flicking ears for a second before he says, just loud enough to be heard:*
*her head pops out from the kitchen doorway, then she scrambles to turn off the stove and rush to his side. well, I wouldn't say rush, more like a brisk walk, or an urgent stride, well i wouldn't say urgent either but she's there in seconds, focus entirely on him. the burnt smell hasn't gone away.*
you're awake. welcome back to what we humans call the land of the living, joker.
*her words are delivered with a slight smirk, but her posture is that of one unsure of their place. she steals glances at akira's leg and gets into a very subtle staring match with morgana as she waits for akira to reply.*
*Morgana stares at Goro back, his tail flicking lazily even as his pupils narrow. Akira tries to push himself up into a better sitting position, only to practically whimper when the nerves in his leg flare up in protest. Instinctively, he covers his mouth with his hand to stifle it before it gets any louder.*
Ugh... sorry. I just... I just wanted to see if you were okay. You sounded a little frazzled when you yelled at Mona.
*He hesitates, then looks up at Goro, his bangs falling into his eyes.*
*goro looks at akira like he's grown a second head before she turns her chin up and promptly heads back into the kitchen.*
absolutely not! that's an absurd question, joker, did you get a concussion when you fell down the stairs too? i have everything under control.
*there is a loud clatter of... something, against the floor, but goro only laughs borderline maniacally without any further comment. in a sing-song voice, she calls from the kitchen,*
if i see you standing at all for the rest of today, i'll kill you~!
*Akira's neck prickles at the threat; she's being serious. Morgana hears it too, his ears flattening before he gets up and stretches, batting a paw at Akira's cheek affectionately.*
I'm gonna make sure hβ she doesn't burn down the kitchen, *he grumbles before bumping his head against Akira's fingers and jumping down from the couch. Tail held aloft, Morgana stalks into the kitchen, and Akira can practically see the glare Goro must have right now.*
*Giggling to himself, Akira lets himself flop back down on the couch, carefully avoiding moving his swollen leg, and he stares up at the ceiling of the living room. He wonders how he ever got so lucky with Goro, despite their rocky beginnings, and then his phone buzzes on the coffee table, lighting up with a notification from Sojiro.*
*goro screeches something about kitchen hygiene violations, YOU STUPID CAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN YOU'LL SHED FUR EVERYWHERE YOU FUCKING but after a while, both her and morgana emerge from the kitchen with only slightly burnt and uneven homemade pancakes.*
okay, dinner is served!
*she presents the meal to akira with a slight flourish reminiscent of her robin hood mask, but falters when she notices akira's intent staring at his phone.*
*Akira distractedly looks up at Goro, then realizes she's brought food and is staring at him.*
Oh shitβsorry. I, um. Got distracted. I was... telling Sojiro what happened today.
*Akira goes quiet again, looking back at his phone, which has started to chime incessantly. There's an unreadable look on his face, which only worries Goro further, then his eyes widen.*
Um. Do you mind if we have an unexpected guest...?
*He asks the question sheepishly, as if said unexpected guest was already on his way over and wasn't about to take no for an answer.*
*she raises a brow, leaning over to peek at akira's phone. 'boss'? great, okay. what a trek. she doesn't particularly want sojiro sakura in her apartment, but akira seems... rather optimistic about the idea.*
do i really have a choice, or are you merely asking for formalities?
Not really... he's already on his way. I imagine he left as soon as I texted him that I was hurt. I didn't want to lie to himβhe saw us by Takemi's clinic and he was worried.
*Akira still looks incredibly sheepish, his head lowered.*
Sojiro... he gets really uppity when I get hurt in any way. He once closed Leblanc in the middle of the day because I burned myself with coffee by accident.
*He looks back up at Goro, looking like he's asking for forgiveness rather than permission at this point. His phone is still clutched in his hands, now being swarmed with texts by Futaba, and Morgana jumps back onto the couch to knead his paws in the blanket.*
*she sighs and rubs her temples in a show of (mostly) faux-exasperation, but eventually nods and shuffles onto the couch beside akira. she's glad akira has a family. she's jealous glad akira has people he can rely on and trust. she's glad he has a good paternal figure now. she's glad. she is so glad. you can feel how glad she is through the text, in fact, that's how fucking glad she is.*
as long as isshiki isn't joining us.
*she doesn't bother correcting herself as the name slips out. still, she pushes the plate of (only slightly dubious-looking) pancakes towards akira expectantly.*
*Akira finally sets his phone down and nods, taking the plate and taking a bite of the pancakes. The sight of them didn't deter him, but the imagined taste did. However, when that first bite settled in, pancakes and whipped cream and blueberries and all, Akira closed in his eyes in bliss. He ignored the slightly burnt aftertaste; it was heaven, and he was starving. Within minutes, the plate was clean, and Akira nearly started eating all the crumbs before Goro took it away with an amused huff.*
Futaba's staying home to watch over everything. She prefers it that way; she was just worried that Sojiro left all of a sudden.
*Akira pauses, swallowing the last bite, before studying Goro.*
*goro pauses, halfway through standing up to wash the plate. she straightens herself up, then looks back at akira, her expression one of mild curiosity. it's the sort of face you'd attribute to a royal; a prince, even. not goro, not anymore.*
no, i'm not. i'll leave the door unlocked for sakura-san to operate himself when he arrives, otherwise i'll leave you both to your own devices, that's all. just for some space, yes?
*she leans back in to peck akira on the cheek, then retreats back into the kitchen without giving akira the chance to get a word in sideways against her. she reappears to unlock the door, then once again disappears without saying a word or so much as looking at him.*

if you sent in an ask on either rp blog a while ago and are wondering if i deleted it or am just ignoring it im probably ignoring it (sorry!) unless it was a useless one word onomatopoeia or something in which case i deleted it
*Akira wanders around the upstairs part of Goro's apartment, feeling restless. It hurts to walk some days, and today was one of those times when Akira wishes he could just flop down in a heap and never move again. It had been like this ever since he had been captured by his Shadow and beaten, but surely his leg would have healed by now, right?*
*Sighing, Akira hears Goro moving around downstairs and decides to check on her. He takes one step, then two, getting to the top of the stairs, before his right leg buckles and he's pitching forward. Panicked, he scrambles for the railing but wildly misses, hands clawing at nothing but empty air as gravity acts on his helpless body. Wood slams into him as he tumbles down, Akira letting out small curses and fragile whimpers while a steady thump thump thump fills the air. Akira finally tumbles to a stop a few steps away from the floor, his entire body feeling like he just got tossed like a ragdoll into the path of an oncoming truck.*
Fuck...
*With shaky arms, he tries to push himself up. It's no big deal, he's fallen before because of his leg giving out and been just fine. But now... something's different.*
*curious about the noise, goro rushes out into the corridor. sticking her head into the stairwell, seeing akira on the floor, she suppresses a laugh before quickly taking the stairs down to meet him. she stands at the bottom stair, not a hint of concern showing on her face - yet. when akira stays down for a few more moments, her brow furrows and she kneels down to look him in the eyes.*
What's going on with you? Do you actually need help getting up?
*Akira bristles at the tone of her voiceβlike she's convinced he fell down the stairs for the hell of it. Resentment flares up briefly, but he tamps it down quickly, knowing damn well he can't be upset about this. He must look stupid, otherwise Goro wouldn't be trying not to laugh. Akira shakes his head mutely, biting back a groan as he attempts to get himself up again. He manages to force himself up into a somewhat sitting position, but as soon as he moves his right leg to get himself standing, fire lances up the limb and up his spine, making him wince and clutch at his thigh. He has a fairly high pain toleranceβafter all, he's been through worse than a fall down the stairs. But this? It felt like invisible hands were pulling at his ligaments, intent on ripping the whole leg off of him in one fell swoop.*
I'm fine... just give me a second.
*Despite the excruciating pain, Akira's determined to stop being a nuisance. That's all he is, really. His head looks back against the railing with a soft thud, his eyes closing as he tries to block out the pain.*
*she hums, straightening up and simply watching as akira struggles to stand. after a particularly loud failure in the form of a garbled curse from akira, she sighs and steps closer once more.*
are you sure you don't need help? i can carry you to the couch if you need me to.
*her eyes are trained on the hunch of akira's back, the way his muscles tense under her gaze, his damned leg she knows that beneath layers of clothes has been blooming an ugly purple for the past month. he's been managing this pain by himself all along? it's a miracle he's only fallen down the stairs now. goro almost feels guilty for not trying to help sooner.*
*Akira manages between gritted teeth, forcing himself up. He finally manages to stand, his right leg almost buckling again underneath him, but he catches himself this time on the railing. Not meeting Goro's gaze, Akira hobbles toward the living room himself, only to collapse again, this time against the table and nearly hitting his head. He lets out a frustrated cry, devastated that he still couldn't walk properly enough just to lug himself over to a couch.*
*unimpressed, she lifts akira up under his arms like a cat, depositing him on the couch with ease, still mindful of his evidently incredibly painful leg.*
you've got it, hm?
*goro stands over him for a moment longer before sighing and settling beside him on the couch. she runs her hand down her face, the other squeezing akira's between them.*
when are you planning on actually getting that checked, joker?
*Akira's silent for a long while, his unruly hair falling into his face as his leg throbs and aches, making it twitch inadvertently. Goro's hand on his makes him feel slightly better, but it doesn't ease the pain. Finally, however, he lets out a soft huff.*
I thought it would have healed by now. It didn't feel like it was significantly damaged, just bruised or something.
*Akira still refuses to meet his girlfriend's eyes, fearing that he'd see the disgust and frustration on her face that she surely must be feeling.*
mm, maybe if you had your persona back then. you spent a while without any help before we managed to return your shadow to yourself, didn't you?
*she stares at the ground, her voice devoid of any inflection. something about this really is bothering her, and she means to fix it as soon as possible. her next words come in a rush, after a few minutes of tense silence.*
at what time does that shady doctor of yours begin her business?
*Akira lifts his head, startled by the question. Goro hates Takemi, always has, especially since she found out that Akira had been the doctor's guinea pig and downed all manner of prototype drugs in the name of getting better healing items for the Phantom Thieves.*
Um... she should be open for a couple more hours. Why?
*Goro was now holding onto his hand incredibly tightly, and Akira wasn't sure what to make of this new development.*
*her voice carried some sort of eerie cheer as she abruptly stood up, nearly causing akira to stumble had she not let go of him at the last mossible moment. her eyes are wide with some odd sense of false mirth yet her lips are pressed into a thin line before she opens them to speak.*
we should pay her a visit. i'll carry you, or we could haul you in a wheelbarrow, or maybe she should be called here instead, or...
I'd... prefer not being in a wheelbarrow. And she lives too far away from here, she'd have to close early because she won't make it back to her clinic before closing time.
*Akira tries to read Goro's behavior, but it's hard. Even with all his experience of studying her expressions and body language, even he can't tell what she's truly feeling at the moment. He sighs and tries to push himself up from the couch.*
I can make it to the train station, we'll just have to ride a train to Yongen-Jaya.
*she pushes him back down by the shoulders rather roughly, smoothening his shirt of imaginary wrinkles right after.*
you're not-- you, you're so... i can call a taxi. i'm calling a taxi.
*she turns on her heel and pulls out her phone, sitting down on the armchair opposite the couch. the hand not holding her phone squeezes at her thigh, and as she taps away at the presumed taxi app, the room falls once more into a tense silence, save for the sound of their synchronised breaths and the tapping of her nails on her screen.*
*Akira murmurs under his breath, finishing her cut-off sentence. She always seemed to do this; starting to tell him that he was something, and then never finishing what she was going to say. He knows he's messed up in some wayβGoro's agitated, after all, and he feels the familiar twist of guilt in his gut that makes his throat tighten. He sighs and shifts on the couch, ignoring the protest from his injured leg, and leaves Goro be. He wants to reassure her, to tell her that he'll be okay... but he fears even that will make her more upset.*
*Akira nods, though he isn't that sure he can. Bracing his hand on the armrest of the couch, he pushes himself up, gritting his teeth against the whine that wants to build up in his throat, before he finally manages to stand fully. It's hell for him to do so, his leg is on fire, but he can't show that. Goro's already too upset. He hobbles slowly over to the front door and all but collapses against the wall next to it, trying to put all his weight on his uninjured leg to give himself a breather.*
*her expression tightens as akira's condition starts to show more clearly. she hasn't let the floor move out of her sight. shifting her own weight from side to side, she mutters awkwardly,*
i'll carry you to the taxi when it arrives, joker. and to the clinic.
*Akira doesn't say anything. He's too busy trying to keep himself conscious, his vision becoming blurry and spotty at the edges every time he so much as twitches his leg. He wishes Goro would stop looking like he'd kicked her favorite puppy and that she'd stop looking at the floor like it held the secrets of the universe.*
You don't have to, *Akira murmurs finally.* From the looks of it, you'd rather be anywhere else right now.
*her head snaps up, her features contorted into a frustrated, incredulous expression. goro's voice is still sharp but now carries the disbelief of the entire world.*
i want to be here. i want to be with you, and accompany you to the clinic, and make sure you're alright. what about me could possibly suggest otherwise?
*Akira opened his mouth to shoot off a long list: the way Goro refused to look at him in the eyes for several minutes, the way she squeezed her thigh earlier, the way she had shifted around uneasily like she was uncomfortable just being around him... but he closed it again, ducking his head like he used to when his parents were upset and yelling at him.*
Nothing. Forget I said anything, I'm sorry.
*Before Goro could demand to know what he meant, a horn blasted from outside; the taxi had arrived.*
*goro frowned. what was akira's problem? blinded by mild panic and biased by her own experience of metaverse injury care, she didn't see anything wrong with what she was doing. she was trying to help, truly she was. st the new development that was akira's new emotional state, her next words came out unsure and small.*
*Akira's voice was quiet, meek, entirely unlike how he usually was. He felt like a burden, and he wished his leg had never acted up at all, or at least not to the point where he couldn't hide it. He braced himself against the wall so Goro could pick him up easier, his breaths shallow and labored from the pain still radiating up his body.*
I'm sorry... please don't be upset at me anymore.
*Those last words were spoken in a whisper, small and tentative.*
*she scowled as she hoisted akira up, albeit with much more care than she exhibited previously. she locks the front door one-handed behind her and manages to get them both in the taxi without fanfare. she doesn't answer akira's plea, nor does even acknowledge it in any way. leaning forward to the taxi driverβnot maruki, thankfully, she thinks with an internal laughβshe mumbles their destination and a clipped 'be quick with it, please'.*
*Akira doesn't speak a word the whole ride to Takemi's clinic, and he barely moves either. He had seen Goro's scowl when she was picking him up, and it only makes him feel worse. He keeps to his side of the taxi, only letting out the occasional whimper when his injured leg is jostled by a too sharp turn or when he accidentally bumps it against the car door. He tries to keep his pain hidden regardless, figuring it would put Goro more at ease. Eventually, they arrive at the streets of Yongen-Jaya, and Akira feels a small bit of comfort seeing the familiar backstreets.*
*goro sighs and quickly moves to open the door for akira once they arrive. she's schooled her face back into perfect neutrality and her voice is, when it cooperates with her and leaves her throat, annoyingly lacking in any sort of tone at all.*
right, let's go again. hopefully the decision you made due to your nonexistent fucking self-preservation skills hasn't killed you or anything.
*she knows she shouldn't have said something so harsh and hypocritical the moment the words left her mouth, but this is stressful, damn it. akira, the near-unflappable leader...*
*Akira flinches slightly at her words as soon as he registers them, his eyes prickling with the threat of tears. He knew it. He knew she despised him for this, for being injured and for forcing her to take care of him. He doesn't make any noise when Goro picks him back up again, but he tries to make himself as light and plain as possible, to make sure he's not more of a burden than he already is.*
*goro pushes open the door to takemi's clinic with her shoulder, stopping in front of the desk and staring at a mildly gobsmacked back-alley doctor. she doesn't put akira down - if anything, she tightens her grip on him more, if that's possible.*
*Luckily, the clinic was entirely empty except for Goro and Akira. Takemi glanced up from her clipboard, assessing Akira's condition wordlessly before she stood, taking her clipboard with her as she opened the door to her examination room.*
Let me guess. He busted something fooling around in the Metaverse?
*goro stays silent for a moment longer, half-expecting akira to respond, but no such sound comes from the man in her arms. she shifts him up higher in her grip as she follows the doctor into the exam room, looking around at the odd, vibrant medical posters plastered on the walls.*
well, we're hoping it's not anything serious... but yes, he 'busted' something.
*she doesn't hide the slight surprise at the casual tone of takemi towards akira's obvious pain, nor the way she's actually rather reluctant to let go of akira as she places him on the medical cot.*
*Takemi chuckles lowly, closing the door behind her and locking it with one hand before plopping down on her stool and crossing her legs.*
That's my guinea pig... always getting himself into scrapes.
*Her teasing tone disappears when Akira winces at being set down on the cot, her expression becoming brisk and serious. One instant, she's calm smiles and self-assured confidence, and the next, she's all business. Goro almost admires the sudden switch.*
It's his leg, right? *she asks Goro, getting up from the stool and lightly tugging up Akira's pant leg to inspect the damage.* What happened? My guinea pig seems awfully quiet, but that's nothing new.
*god fucking damnit, goro, you do know. asshole. goro knows it's her fault akira's taking the injury even worse than he usually would, knows she's the one who made him get it in the first place after pushing him to traverse his own palace like that. her pride prevents her from voicing any of this, especially to takemi, and she falls back on her trusty technique of staring pointedly at the floor.*
i think his leg's had a problem for a while, but today it just... gave up, i suppose? he fell down the stairs.
*Takemi makes a non-committal sound in the back of her throat, her clipboard set aside to inspect Akira's injury. With gentle, manicured fingers, she probes at the swelling and discoloration. The bruising, which had largely localized to Akira's ankle at first when Goro had been taking care of his wounds, had spread all the way up to his knee, and it looked like it had been beat to hell.*
...This is more than a problem. I'll have to x-ray the leg to be sure, but he must have broken at least one of his bones and it looks like things didn't heal correctly.
*She glances at Goro again, her brown eyes serious but understanding.*
It's too soon to tell, but... I have a feeling that my examination won't give us good news. Are you prepared for that?
*goro doesn't answer immediately. her fists clench and unclench at her sides, and she feels like a sorry excuse for a partner. whatever! whatever. akira'll get over this, surely.*
yeah, i'm prepared, just get on with it.
*barely looking takemi in the eye, she shifts to lean on the wall, feigning indifference.*
*Takemi nods before starting her work. Akira's given the whole worksβ physical examinations, x-rays, questions about how he's been taking care of his ankle and if he's been taking pain medication (the answer is no). The whole time, Akira's been as silent as possible, and uncomplaining during the physical examination, despite how painful it looked to Goro. Finally, Takemi re-enters the room after fetching the x-ray results, and holds them out for Goro to take and look at.*
It's as I suspected. Akira should have had me or at least someone qualified to look over his injuries as soon as he was somewhere safe. Because he didn't know how to treat his very fractured ankle, repeated usage of it wound up damaging the muscles of his lower leg and falling down the stairs fractured his femur as well. On top of that, his calf and ankle healed improperly, and the damage already suffered is pretty much irreversible.
*She pauses, letting her explanation settle in before she delivers a crushing diagnosis.*
Akira's now formally disabled, and will be for the rest of his life. He'll need intense physical therapy for a while until his leg is strong enough to carry him safely for short distances, but he'll never regain full mobility. He'll need a cane or crutch for daily use, and may need further mobility aid for long excursions.
*goro's head snaps up like a whip, her hair slapping her in the face as she stares at takemi rather than the results chart. who cares? who fucking cares about some printed sheet of medical bull when not only she's been told everything by takemi and akira's shivering on the cot acting like a saint for his own made-up religion of useless fucking self-sacrifice!?*
fucking---! fuck!
*her voice raises again, but not a single good thing has come out of her being loud and aggressive today, she finally realises, looking back at akira. she takes a deep breath in, visibly composing herself as she counts to nine, then exhales. her eyes still glare daggers at everyone and everything in the room, but her voice isn't violent and her hands have unclenched. this isn't something she's prepared to handle, and it's terrifying her more than any shadow ever could. it's real, it's permanent, and it's happening to akira of all people.*
okay, he's disabled. um. does he have to stay here for long?
*Takemi seems taken aback at first by Goro's reaction; she expected Akira to have an outburst, but Akira's sat as still as a statue, staring off into space with a blank look on his face. The poor thing was likely in shock. Then, she lets out a soft sigh.*
No. You can take him home for now. You'll need to find a physical therapist for him once his pain has mostly died down, though. I have a cane and crutch you can take with you, and he can use whichever is more comfortable for him.
*She puts a hand into her labcoat pocket and pulls out two pill bottles, giving them to Goro.*
He needs to take one blue pill and one white pill once a day, and additionally he needs to take one white pill each time he feels the pain is worse than he can manage. They're painkillers, and he'll need to get in the habit of taking them in case he develops chronic flare-ups, in which case he'll need to take them more often. When you need a refill, come back and see me.
one blue pill, one white pill, and extra blue... no, white. yellow. white. one blue, one white, one...
*she groans but simply pockets the bottles with a nod to takemi and steps over to akira. she doesn't touch him yet, she's not that stupid, but her rigid posture and frustrated expression doesn't exactly do much to soothe him.*
So if you HAD to wear a specific hat for the rest of your life, what kimd of hat would you choose?
-π
this is such a specific and useless question.
two of my top choices would be the cloche and the newsboy cap.
the cloche hat, name derived from the french word for 'bell', is widely considered the definitive symbol of the jazz age. it became famous alongside the garçonne movement, where women began wearing masculine fashion, silhouettes, and hairstyles in the 1920s. cloche hats are designed to sit very low on the forehead however, near obscuring your eyebrows, so i'd need to adopt a different hairstyle to wear one properly.
newsboy caps were mainly used - you guessed it - in the uniform of newsboys who stood on the street yelling daily headlines and selling papers. there's a myth that early gang (such as the peaky blinders) culture involved stitching hidden razor blades in the brims of their newsboy caps, but that's completely fake. anyways, the newsboy cap is designed to be rather 'floppy' and forgiving on your hair, so i wouldn't have to worry about my bangs getting flattened like i would with the cloche.
ooc: oh yeah small thing about matrix 5 since we're talking about it, neither of the wachowskis are very into it by the looks of things (one is a producer? but ? doubt) which spells vague doom, especially after 4's flop:/ goro's only watched the first movie anyway so none of this affects her, also because she's in 2017,
