“Never chase love, affection or attention. If it isn’t given freely by another person, it isn’t worth having.”
— Curiano.com
I'm less and less interested in masking my mental illness for people anymore. My energy belongs to my recovery and my healing, not in pretending I'm okay for your comfort or your approval.
I actually found that the less I mask my mental illness the more people around me seem to be more caring but not in a way of "aww you got a mental illness that's so sad" but more like "I get what you mean and I'm here to help you".
Because my friends also have mental illnesses so they can actually help me when I'm having an anxiety/panic attack. So long story short I have surrounded myself with people who understand what I'm going through because I'm not trying to mask my mental illness.
ugh!!!!
I just realized the reason so many people will call someone “an abuser” when the facts of the matter indicate instead that the person is actually simply “an asshole” is because you can’t just create engaging social media guilt by association drama by demanding people unfollow x or y if they’re simply an asshole, but if you re-reframe banal assholishness as genuine psychological abuse it means you can also start shit with anybody who associates with the asshole in question. That might also explain why people say “this person is a gaslighter” when they instead mean “this person says lies”.

affirmations for childhood trauma recovery
i deserve to be heard
i deserve to take up space
i deserve to have my needs met
i exist for myself, my life is mine to live
i do not have to put everyone else's needs before my own
i deserve to be safe
i am worthy of gentle, supportive, understanding, and compassionate love
it was not my fault, i was a child, it was not my job to be the parent
it is my responsibility to learn how to care for myself and break the cycle
i can do the work, i am smart, i am capable, and i have resources to help myself
i am allowed to ask for help, i do not need to shoulder this burden alone
i am allowed to talk about my experiences and it is ok to tell others about the way i was treated
my trauma doesn't have to exceed a threshold of bad to be real, my trauma is real because it impacts me
although i feel shame and guilt, i accept myself as i am
i decide what happens now

GOD I found another article about why ADHD kids say “I don’t know” so much. my entire childhood was getting yelled at for doing some ADHD shit and me not being able to offer an explanation when asked why I did something.
Adding to this, its cause of our executive dysfunction and emotional dysregulation (naturally there’s more things at play than just these two but I’m naming main aspects).
We tend to have alexithymia, meaning we have difficulty identifying and describing own feelings.
You can’t say how you feel if you legit don’t know.
Self monitoring is an executive function; our self awareness about how we are doing presently .. which is hampered in ADHDers.
You can’t say what you think if you legit don’t know.
Executive dysfunction in a nutshell
Things that take time & many tries to get right:
learning to be a good friend/partner
healing from depression, failures or heartbreak
becoming amazing at an art or skill
overcoming anxiety, insecurities and low body image
overcoming the need to isolate yourself
changing self-hating thoughts to kinder ones
making a real connection with someone
overcoming self-defeating and self-sabotaging thoughts
learning how to study effectively
finding a sense of stability and calmness at your core
quitting habits or addictions
leaving people and behaviours that turn you into the worst version of yourself
getting used to healthier coping mechanisms & mindsets that feel fake
treating yourself like you truly care about yourself
becoming the person you always wanted to be
stop seeking validation from people who constantly put you down. you deserve better than people who never check in on you. you deserve better than missed phone calls, and unread text messages. you deserve better than to feel like an option. you deserve better than forced conversations and cancelled plans. you deserve someone who lifts you up. you deserve someone who treats you right. you deserve someone who loves you for who you are. and most importantly you deserve happiness.
