I really want to start this off by saying that I hope that you are doing well. I know this will seem very out of the blue but its something I have been thinking about for a while. I don’t expect you to respond, or to forgive me, I just hope you will read this.Â
I am so, very sorry about how our friendship ended. I know I am the one the one to blame for it ending and I know I said very hurtful things. Things that I probably can’t take back, I wish I never hurt you the way I did.Â
You were NEVER a negative part of my life, I can’t even believe I allowed myself to say that, and honestly you always brought positivity to my life, you were my ride or die. I wish I could remember everything I said that night so I could apologize for everything individually and not just in general for the stuff I said. That night for me was a 3rd suicide attempt, never in my mind did I think I would end up in the back of C’s car with you, one of my best friends, telling me that I desperately needed help. And you were right, I really did need help.
That night during an overnight stay at the hospital I was diagnosed with major depression, anxiety, OCD, borderline personality disorder, EDNOS, self harm and a distorted body image. After so many dark years, regrets, and attempts I was finally getting help. It hurt so much that what felt to me was you distancing yourself (which maybe you were) I felt abandoned, rejected, worthless and invalidated. I felt that you no longer wanted anything to do with me even though I was finally getting the help I needed. Being borderline I’m literally like a 3rd degree burn victim when it comes to my emotions and feelings with the slightest change I am intense emotional pain, at first I expected you to understand 100% and now I know that was so irrational of me to expect, since I didn’t even understand it myself. I’m sorry I expected that from you. I’m sorry I assumed that you would always deal with my flaws as a friend, and I had a lot of them.
I dealt with things very irrationally, I was always in emotion mind and never in wise mind until I learnt all my coping skills from DBT therapy. My BPD was making me think you didn’t want to be my friend so I pushed you away before you could do it to me. Thats a big symptom and I’m so sorry that that is what I resorted to. I’m sorry that while I was feeling that you were invalidating my feelings I was invalidating yours, I never even stopped to ask you how you felt, how what I was doing made you feel. I just thought about myself, yet you were ALWAYS there for me, without a second thought. You were an amazing friend and I can’t thank you enough for being apart of my life and helping me shape me into who I am today. In a way I’m thankful that night happened but for selfish reasons; so that I could finally get help but in that process I hurt you, and that is something I never wanted to do to you, you didn’t deserve any of it.
I’ve been reading a book called “The Buddha and The Borderline,” it has taught me so much that my psychiatrist, my therapist, and my doctor could have ever taught me about it. It’s not only teaching me about my mind but about how other people act and cope to deal with how borderlines act, if that makes sense. I know it wasn’t your job to make me feel extra validated but it was something I needed every now and again even though I didn’t know I needed it. I wish I knew sooner of my disorders and how to have dealt with them in healthy ways and how to voice my feelings in a healthy way but instead I was a toxic human being and I was the one who brought negativity to everyone, I am so very sorry for that.Â
I check up on you every so often and I just want you to know how proud I am of you and who you are becoming. You have made a beautiful life for yourself and you deserve every bit of it. I hope one day we could get together if you would be interested but I understand if you’re not. I am so sorry K, I hope you can find it in you to forgive me, I know we can’t get back to where we were but I would really like to try if you would too.Â
