Making the perfect study plan
Exams are getting closer and now is the perfect time to create a solid study plan to get motivated and be productive. Here are some tips to help you making your study plan!
You donât need a fancy planner. You can just use Excel to create it as you like and it will be more than enough!
Make a list of all the topics you have to study and gather similar subjects in the same category. Then, classify them by priority order.
Estimate the amount of time youâll need to study each topic. Donât underestimate it : you have to take all the time you need to understand and memorize, otherwise youâll end up rushing things up and not being productive enough. I remember adding 1 hour more than I thought I would need so I could have plenty of time to go deeper in the subject without stressing myself out.
Know when youâre the most effective and do the hardest tasks in that moment. Keep the lighter subjects for the rest of the day. When I was doing my first med school year I would always study chemistry and physics in the mornings and the rest in the afternoon and evening !
Plan your breaks and meals. If you want to watch an episode from your favorite TV show, plan it. Your free time is important too! Make to create time for daily activities that fulfill you :)
Plan your delay! Set a day in your planner where you just catch up on everything youâre late on so you donât get super stressed if your study day didnât go as planned ! I always use my Sundays as ÂŤÂ delay days  haha
If you have enough time, try to plan review sessions of the topics youâve already seen. When I was studying anatomy I would make review sessions one day a week so I could memorize in the best way possible.
Also, plan a day or half a day to test yourself. Do it early enough to re-adjust your study plan if you feel like you have to spend more time reviewing a certain topic!
And you, what are your âplanning habitsâ? Do you use a planner ?
Please reblog and like this post if you want more tips like this one!

reminders
âyou are allowed to be proud of the little things you achieve; like becoming better in a video game, baking really good pancakes or just getting out of bed today - not everything you do has to be world changingâ - @gentle-reminder
âDonât ever do something simply because someone else forces you into it. At times, people may try to make you do things that you may not want to do. However, you must respect yourself and only contribute to what you feel comfortable with doing.â - @thepowerwithin
âThere will be other tests. Other assignments. Other jobs. But there might not be another chance to dance with your sister on her wedding day. You may never get another opportunity to sing along to all your favourite songs at a concert. There are no guarantees. So, forget the test. Miss the assignment. Skip the work day. Life isnât made by those things. Itâs made by living. By experiencing and enjoying every thing we can while weâre still here.â - @ifthenightcouldtalk
âRespect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.â - @psychofactz
I have so so so many more tips that Iâd love to share, so perhaps Iâll make a part two next month aimed at a different audience, who knows? In the meantime feel free to ask me for advice or send me a message if you ever need anything! Iâll leave you with a sweet little meditation gif below :3

general study tips
this is just a quick list of study habits that work for me, as a straight aâs student
1. even if itâs not in your teacherâs presentation written on a slide, if you hear your teacher mention a fact, WRITE IT DOWN. you might need it later for a test.
2. when youâre rewriting your notes/compiling a study guide, pretend youâre making it for someone else. include everything, even if you think you know it. (unless youâre low on time, in which case, just write what you donât know)
3. when youâre trying to learn a new concept, pretend youâre teaching it to someone else. this is a form of active learning, and the act of breaking the concept down into steps that you can teach will improve your understanding of the concept. (for the longest time, i actually didnât even know this was an actual study technique, because iâve always done it subconsciously!)
4. donât over color your notes!! if you really need a key for all the colors, then youâre using way too many. try to stick with 2-3 pens/pencils. for me, i write most of my notes in black ink or pencil and i write the important concepts i might need to find quickly later (such as vocabulary) in red or blue pen.
5. have your water bottle next to you (so you remember to stay hydrated; this makes focusing easier as well), as well as any other things you might need during a study session so you donât have to keep getting up to get stuff (which is pretty distracting for me as iâm easily sidetracked).
6. make it a habit to write lists of everything you need to do by the end of the weekend (or the end of that day, depending on how much work you have). thisâll help you familiarize yourself with your tasks so you have a clear plan of what needs to get done.
7. (not really necessary, just something i like to do!) learn to eat with your non-dominant hand so you can eat and take notes and turn pages w/out ripping them instead of scrolling through social media. keep in mind that sometimes, meal times are for taking your mind off school so unless youâre really pressed for time, itâs not a huge deal if you spend this time w/passive reading, texting friends, etc.
8. when youâre assigned a research project, COME UP WITH A THESIS FIRST so you know what to research. try to get all your research done within the first two days or so, to have more time to plan out how youâre going to structure it. then get your draft done (something is better than nothing) so you can revise at your own pace instead of rushing at the last minute.
9. prioritize your homework!! as someone who spends hours fencing and even misses school for fencing tournaments, is part of symphonic band, and on the robotics team (build season is suuuuuper busy), i canât express how important this is!! if you have math first period, get that done first, whereas if you have math last period, you can do it at lunch and spend your time working on something thatâs due in the morning. donât do this all the time, but if you need to, know which teachers are more strict with due dates so if you really do need an extension, youâll be asking the least strict teacher and will have much better chances of getting said extension.
10. if you study at home like me, change into new clothes (comfy clothes, but not pajamas) before cracking open your textbooks. itâll help make you feel more refreshed and ready to start your homework, but not confined to uncomfortable uniforms from school. tie up your hair, if itâs long. try to study at a table/desk rather than in bed (for sleeping not studying) or on the floor (bad for your posture).
11. check out this post for productive things you can do when you arenât studying, but still want to be productive!
hope these helped some of you!!
xoxo, ren
