25 Of the Most Magnificent Libraries Around the World - Right from the Pages of a Fairytale
There is an essence of timelessness when it comes to libraries and books. Even with the modern marvels of human technology, e-books, audio books, libraries have still preserved the atmosphere of exercising and feeding the human mind with rich text and pages of storytelling. These great feats of architecture we have featured below are the integration of great design and the age old love of ancient yellow pages that have the history of the world etched in them.
The priceless treasure trove of great minds, dreamers and scholars are documented in these buildings which have been designed and built with great care in order to make them stand forever as a monument over these articles of importance like no other.
The libraries below have become an enduring tribute to impeccable design; the best dƩcor and space construction, and art are ingrained into the floors and ceilings and wood panelling. Some of these studies have been built to attract not only readers eager to ponder over pages of food for thought, but to keep the spirit of young minds eager to see the enchanting presence of a library no digital book can recreate.
When that unique smell of worn out books, dust mingled with sunny afternoons wafts through the stone cracks of these majestic structures, people once again are transported back to the classic charm of an intimate moment spent with a satisfying story in the solitude of a hall crammed with books to the ceiling.

The problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognizing how we are. Imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our individual selves, if we didnāt have the weight of gender expectations.

We Should All Be Feminists: a short review of a short essay
The other day on the train I downloaded We Should All Be Feminists byĀ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. You know, the little essay that was given to every 16 year old student in Sweden (that country is #goals), but to be honest I was more fascinated by Swedenās decision to distribute the essay so widely than I was with the writing itself.Ā
The essay gives a clear and persuasive yet ultimately basic overview of feminism and its importance, which will seem veryĀ āduh!ā to any experienced feminist. However, I can see how putting this book in the hands of someone who may not know very much about feminism or really see its benefits would be very helpful. I think every country should consider adding it as required reading in their school systems. If I had to add a minor critique to this review it would be that the essay came off as a little cissexist. When discussing the nature of men and women the experience of trans individuals was left out. I doubt this was purposeful, but it is still slightly disappointing.Ā
TL;DR Sweden rocks and while not revolutionary I think this would be an important book for todayās youth (and some adults) to read. However, I would have liked more representation of gender identities. Would recommend.Ā
Will Grayson, Will Grayson Final Thoughts
I finished reading Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan a few days ago, and my initial thoughts wereĀ āYES! This fun read had LGBT+ Ā representation, made me laugh out loud, and the ending made me smile ear to ear. Also, 1 book written by 2 authors is a fascinating concept that was beautifully executed. READ. THIS. BOOKā Then I realized I was super high on pain meds from a recent chest injury and should take a few days to actually think about this book. Now my thoughts look a bit more like this:
I liked it a lot, but it felt like watching Glee (the early seasons when it was still kind of good.) The whole thing just felt a little flat/overly angsty and characters even broke into song at some points. Also, Iām not sure exactly what message I was suppose to get out of it (you canāt choose youāre friends, so appreciate the ones you have...maybe?), but as light reading while I was bed ridden, trying to really look within myself (aka waiting for Xray results), and in need of something that could hold my attention it worked very well.Ā If you enjoy John Greenās books you will like his half of the novel. It was funny, full of metaphors, and chock full of nerd jokes. With that in mind it falls prey to what I like to refer to asĀ āJohn Green Syndrome,ā for most of the book readers find themselves totally in love with the witty writing wrapped in complex intellectual concepts, but the end of the book can never do justice to the book as a whole, and you end with an overly dramatic aftertaste.Ā
The other half of the book, written by David Levithan, does a great job of depicting what its like to be young, living with mental illness, and navigating ones sexual identity. I personally found this Will Grayson to be more developed, but maybe that is because I related to him more. I loved this Willās snark and sarcasm and wish I could be friends with him in real life.
All this being said, in both halves I would have liked to see more representation of LGBT+ identities. There is a scene that takes place in a high school GSA, but even then identities other thanĀ āgay maleā are barely mentioned. Thatās like writing a book about a bakery, but only talking about the bagels. Maybe someone out there could benefit from seeing or a least hearing about a muffin! (not meant to be a lesbian joke, but you can take it as one if you want)Ā
Finally, from a feminist perspective this book is probably a 2.5 out of 5 stars. The supporting female characters only function as mothers or as women interested in one of the Will Graysons. This book certainly would not pass the Bechdel test, and I would have certainly appreciated a more complex view of David Levithanās female character, Maura. Why was she interested in Will? Why was she so hurt that Will wouldnāt tell her he was gay? What was she always writing in her notebook (love poems, homework, a scientific study on what would happen if you pushed someone down an up escalator would they fall forever idk? That being said, I do appreciate the intelligence depicted in John Greenās female character, Jane, but I would like to get to know her more as a person and not just a love interest. TL;DR: Goodish LGBT+ representation. Lots of angst. Flat female characters. Still hilarious and fun. Would recommend.Ā
This book inspired me too much

1984- George Orwell
α-Ā āIt was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteenā.
It was curious to think that the sky was the same for everybody. And the people under the sky were also very much the sameāeverywhere, all over the world, hundreds or thousands of millions of people just like this, people ignorant of one anotherās existence, held apart by walls of hatred and lies, and yet almost exactly the sameāpeople who had never learned to think but were storing up in their hearts and bellies and muscles the power that would one day overturn the world.

āHe had won the victory over himselfā
I just finished 1984, and I have to say that throughout the whole book I couldnāt help notice the similarities between the world of the book and the modern world we live in. I guess that makes the lineĀ āThe best books...are those that tell you what you know alreadyā slightly ironic.Ā That being said, while I am completely aware that everything I do and say can be monitored (I choose to live a very public life on the internet and onstage for petes sake) Iām a little disappointed. Not in the lack of privacy that we have, because Iām fairly young and canāt miss what Iāve never known, but if someone is watching what I do and reading everything I type why donāt I hear them laughing or see them liking my facebook status? I think Iām hilarious and if someone is consuming everything I put into the world I would like some appreciation! Thank you!Ā I know this is more about me than it is about the book itself, so if you would like me to write a dissertation 1984 let me know. I just felt like there were so many of those on the internet already and if Iām going to throw something into the void I would rather it not be redundant.Ā
