the whole discourse behind the original post being dunked in water is so astronomically silly. “people are just making ocs for their own enjoyment and not doing anything Productive with them >:(” why are you mad about this. who cares. yelling at clouds

“if you’re making turnarounds and concept art and storyboards and plot outlines that don’t eventually become a finished polished story or ip then what’s the point :/” i think the act of creation is a beautiful thing that brings people joy even when it doesn’t ‘amount’ to anything marketable. also is it your first day on god’s earth

i do think we need to detach hygiene from value as a person. as someone who has dealt with not being able to shower or brush my teeth due to depression and executive dysfunction, it usually is not a choice. sometimes there are situations in which you CANNOT care for yourself properly and that shouldn’t mean you can now be stripped of your worth. physically disabled people who have trouble with hygiene i love you, mentally ill people who have trouble with hygiene i love you, neurodivergent people who struggle with hygiene i love you, people without access to adequate hygiene products i love you. it’s going to be ok

i don't like to yuck people's yum but i have to say that my least favorite thing to come from the current state of Artists on the Internet is the idea of a sketchbook as something nice and pretty and shareable. like i love me a notebook full of gorgeous art don't get me wrong but that is NOT what a sketchbook is. a sketchbook is my friend who i carry around everywhere like a purse chihuahua. it is the physical manifestation of my notes app. it is the container into which i wring my brain out. it is my therapist. and most of all it is filled with absolutely terrible sketches that should never see the light of day.

this post is making the rounds again and the amount of people saying that the pretty sketchbooks phenomenon ruined sketchbooks for them is HEARTBREAKING and i stand by my opinion that sketchbooks should be like a jar you put your OCs in. and then you shake them around in there. that's what they're for

i think i tend to forget how good boredom is for creativity because we're all so addicted to numbing ourselves with screens and stimulation. but standing in the shower or going for a walk with no music or just sitting in your bedroom without being allowed to touch any screens & all of a sudden i have multiple new projects to start, a solution to a months-long plot problem & 4 new original characters

as a writer you will have a specific deck of vocab words you like using a lot and when you read other peoples' work you will see a very clear spread of different vocab words on their end. this is why you need to read, to collect other writers' words like it's a card game
