So the prompt I posted was in my head for days now so I just wrote this in a dash today. This is a WIP and I’m posting this here so I will try to get back to this story somehow. ^^ Let me know what you think.

“This is the end huh?” Temari said.
“We can still be friends. We were friends first to begin with, right?” Shikamaru tried to smile but failed.
“Right. And we will be working together at some point,” Temari holding it together as brave as she is.
So, it was the end of their secret relationship. They hid everything from their friends and her brothers. Shikamaru was hopeful they can work this relationship thing but as work and responsibilities has piled up plus the three-day journey away from their villages it seems they can’t make time to be with each other anymore.
Gone are the days when Shikamaru went cloud watching waiting for Temari’s return to Konoha. He thought of the next 200 steps for their future together. How he would ask her to not leave and just stay. But he knows she loves Suna and her brothers more than anything. It would be selfish of him to ask her to stay in Konoha to be with him. He never voiced out these things and now its too late. They are going back to being as friends slash workmates.
He walked her to the gates, he kissed her one last time, “Goodbye Temari.”
“I’ll be back crybaby. See you soon,” and she still gave him that grin he loves. She really troublesome he thought.
Rokudaime summoned him in his office.
“Shikamaru were received a missive from the Suna council. How do you feel about arrange marriages?” Kakashi asked
“What? Arrange marriage?”
“Well it’s not exactly an arrange marriage but the Suna council is asking representatives from every village to fight for Temari’s hand in marriage. So the elders, your clan and I have discussed that we will send you as our representative.”
Shikamaru cannot believe what is happening but this may be a sign for something. This maybe a chance of bringing back the best thing that happened to him.
“Lord Hokage, may I know why me? There are other guys who are more suited to marry Temari in our village.”
“Shikamaru do not sell yourself short. You are one of our best strategists in the village. The next Head of the Nara Clan. And you have worked with Temari.”
“Or you have already eyeing someone. I know you kids are all grown up. But somehow, I thought you and Temari have a thing. Or maybe I’m wrong. You have until afternoon to decide.”
“No. I will go. So, when should I start my journey to Suna?”
