The theme is "New Beginnings." When Choji and Karui came together, they knew they had many firsts ahead, from weddings, birthdays, to meeting each other's friends and families.
This year, we're celebrating their "New Beginnings" with a doodle session on Magma!
➡️How does this work? On May 8, I'll open the online doodle board (1-2 pages) and share the link. Include your handles so we know how to find you. I'll share the board on the blog and participating channels.

Choji Akimichi and Karui, Country: Land of Fire, Discipline: Pairs
Choji also started skating very young and tried playing hockey at first, but decided to change to figure skating too. He was pretty good at it and was recommended to try pair skating by his coaches. He had a couple of partners over the seasons, and did well enough to compete internationally, where he met many skaters from other countries, including another pair skating duo from the Land of Lighting. Eventually, Choji’s current partnership fell out at the same time Karui was looking for a new partner due to Omoi retiring early due to injury (sorry Omoi!). Karui had a hard time finding a new partner in the Land of Lighting until, thanks to her friendship with Temari, found out about Choji’s difficulty connecting with a new partner too. After arranging some tryouts, they saw their skills complemented each other well, and just discovered they enjoyed spending time together, and decided to partner up. That left the problem of which country to represent. After much thought, Karui decided to represent the Land of Fire, as they offered more opportunities, looking for strong pair skating teams.
Karui and Omoi, Country: Land of Lightning, Discipline: Pairs
Karui and Omoi started skating as kids and were paired up since they were young, as they worked well together. They had many successful seasons skating for the Land of Lightning, considering it’s a very competitive country in pair skating. Unfortunately, Omoi decided to retire after suffering from recurring stress fractures. Karui, wanting to keep competing, decided to look for a new partner. By the time they met each other, Choji’s caring and calm personality worked well with Karui’s more impulsive and fiery approach to skating.
