This is the art that is probably closest to being “canon” for the AU, as it’s the concept of the capital city of the Kingdom. The capital was built around the Garden of Eden as it was seen as a sort of symbolic seat of power for Lucifer, where he first held sway over God’s creations, his first act of war against his creator, as well as being the location of the final battle of the war, where Lucifer’s greatest general, Eve (yes that Eve), cut down God. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil grew in size from God falling dead at its roots. The worshippers of the Divine God that remain in the “modern” day believe that He lays dormant inside the tree, waiting for the day he is resurrected. He’s not. He was basically eaten by Lucifer (and his eye by Eve).

Other key parts of this art are of course the shattered sky, namesake for the AU, as the Heavens shattered once God fell, fracturing from the exact point in which he died beneath the Tree. The other key part is the cracked open earth which far down below is rivers of magma and hellfire, as Lucifer cracked open the earth to bring Hell forth. That’s also the explanation of how the supercontinent began to split apart (the AU doesn’t follow our exact timeline of Earth’s development but is inspired by it, so like Pangea splitting along the tectonic plates and becoming our continents. This also helps create varying environments within the vast kingdom which allows for diverse cultures to have developed over the history of the world. Cultures that may reflect parts of our own, but not entirely as cultures develop based on the environment it develops in, and the environment of this Earth is extremely different than our own. Also not entirely because this is an AU for a band that’s a commentary on Christianity and Catholicism, which is entrenched in colonialism, and while this AU is for fun, I want to be mindful in the world building as well).

Another part I want to touch on before moving onto the next piece of art is my previous mention of Eve, general of Lucifer, who was gifted the left eye of God to eat. Eve in this AU is the ancestor of the Royal line which rules the kingdom, therefore the Emeritus’s all descend from her and receives her Divine blessing of God’s eye. This is not really known by the public, more so by the immediate confidants of the Royal line as a way to confirm the legitimacy of the those that ascend the throne. There’s a whole ritual for this process as glowing eyes are not impossible for others to be born with, so the ritual is performed to reveal whether the eye is Divine or not. This is how Copia and Perpetua lived without knowing that they were descents of Eve and had claim to the throne until later on in their lives.

There are also other family lines of humans that descend from soldiers and generals of Lucifer’s army that would slay Angels and take parts of them and wear them (becoming family heirlooms). These families now serve the royal family. This art is of one such knight, one which wields an Angel’s Divine weapon and armor so that they may survive in the harrowing battles against the mad Angels that still roam the lands. These families are very few and far between, but hold some of the most essentially positions in the Royal Army. The downside however, specifically for those that wear Divine heirlooms, live shorter lives than other humans due to humans being corrupted by Hell which is the antithesis to the Divine. Wearing such items slowly saps their life from them, but those brave enough to do so do it as they truly believe in fighting for their kingdom at the cost of their life.

Other examples of these heirlooms, aside from weapons and armor, are things like halos, relics (Angelic instruments, staffs, etc.), and very rarely wings.

Last piece of art done in universe, which is the one least canon in terms of appearance, as this creature needs to be redesigned to visually fit more into the world.

The world of this AU have all sort of creatures roaming the lands, some that originate from the bowls of Hell and other animals of Earth that slowly evolved to become corrupted just as Humans did.

The “Star Horned Steed” as I had dubbed it at the time is a creature that originated from Hell, a concentration of Quintessence that took a form similar to that of horses. Their main purpose within the Army is for traveling extremely far distances in a matter of moments. But, due to their rarity as they only occur when the environment is perfect, they are only ridden by specific troops within the Army. The Royal Family also only rides these sorts of steeds whenever they must ride.

I plan on doing extreme amounts of world building in general for the element and alchemy system for my Ghouls outside of this AU, but that development will most likely transfer into Shatter Sky, maybe changing a bit to fit more into some of the other aspects of the world.

Last thing I’ll yap about that I don’t think I’ve ever really touched on yet is what I call Afflictions. Afflictions are essentially abilities that are supernatural, demonic, eldritch or whatever word you want to apply to them. Humans are naturally corrupted after living so many years on an Earth that has been deeply changed by Hell. Over the years, they’ve evolved to be less Human and just a little bit hellish, so many of them developed features depending on the form of corruption their environment was subjected to. Simple features like eyes, ears, nails, have been affected. Some humans have small horn like protrusions, nothing too extreme like what Ghouls have. But these are not Afflictions. Some humans are born more corrupted or susceptible to the energies of Hell which causes them to be born with or develop these strange abilities people call Afflictions. You’d think that these would be celebrated as corruption is an essential part of the world and more would be good, but unfortunately humans are not meant to hold as much energy as those with Afflictions do. If they hold too much, they die and turn into mindless creatures of hell, dangerous and must be killed. Thankfully, Small Afflictions tend not to be dangerous, most common ones being things like improved strength, dexterity, etc etc. Very inconsequential and don’t risk degeneration of their mind and body. Of course, as corruption increases, so does the uniqueness of the ability and the danger that they’ll turn into monsters. Fortunately, if these people are careful with using their Affliction or staying far from heavily corrupted areas, they’ll be safe. Others, not so much. In “modern” day, there has been some developments in the treatments for Affliction and severe corruption, but they’re sometimes not very affective or long lasting. And it’s unknown if the treatments will be detrimental long term or not as they’re very experimental. However, there is one way to be safe with a severe affliction. A blessing from the Morningstar himself. Very rare, but when it does occur, these Afflicted often find themselves in important positions within society. And example of this is my character named Rigorian (Sibling of Sin transferred into the AU). Rigorian, blessed by the Morningstar at some point in their lives, had developed an Affliction so severe that without said Blessing they would surely have become a highly dangerous monstrosity that the Royal Guard (Ghouls assigned to the Dreadking) would have to have been called on to contain it. Rigorian’s Affliction is actually quite simple. Regeneration. Any injury incurred is regenerated as if they were never injured, an ability that would have been very dangerous for them to transfer to their corrupted monster form. But, it makes them perfect as the general of the Royal Guard.

The Royal Family also are often born with Afflictions as they are forever blessed by the Morningstar due to their ancestor being Eve. Unfortunately, I have not fully decided on the Affliction for any of our Papas as of yet.

But uhhhhh, yeah! Shit ton of yappage!

I do plan on working more on Shattered Sky, there’s so much to it that interests me so much and I feel like it might become my world building project for the year, or at least one of them!
