My name is Brian, and I speak on behalf of many queer refugees living in Gorom refugee settlement camp in Sudan.
Every day, LGBTQ refugees in Gorom face serious challenges simply because of who we are. We live in fear of discrimination, insults, violence, harassment, and rejection from the community around us. Many of us have been threatened, attacked, and denied opportunities because of our sexual orientation or gender identity.
Life in the camp is extremely difficult. We struggle to access basic needs such as food, clean water, shelter, medication, and healthcare. Many queer refugees are unemployed and isolated, with no support system to protect or assist us. Some are suffering from depression, trauma, and hopelessness after facing constant abuse and neglect.
We are human beings, and we deserve safety, dignity, and equal rights like everyone else. We are asking the international community, human rights organizations, donors, and compassionate people around the world to pay attention to our situation.
Please stand with queer refugees in Gorom refugee settlement camp. We urgently need protection, humanitarian support, medical care, advocacy, and relocation opportunities for those at high risk.
