maplerose. a combination of wc and ‘ghost quartet,’ the song cycle written by dave malloy !

this is old i just never realized i didn’t post it here. i wanted to give her a crest / mane in the shape of a maple leaf, down to the line of fur that runs down to her belly mimicking a leaf stem. it’s supposed to be shaped like a maple leaf, all pointy and stuff— but still vague enough in shape to instead be interpreted as other things and reshaped for her other iterations as different versions of herself throughout the story ! ie rose thorns or leaves in general, a sort of star-shaped plume as the starchild, softened as flower petals for the ghost / the lover, and a rose bud that gradually “blooms out” and segments into petal-shaped clusters as she gets older as crookedthorn aka roxie / the usher child. it’s covered by her apparel as dunyazad, but in general it’s “shriveled” and much smaller in appearance because they’re set in a drier climate.

i wanted her to have a sharper and more aggressive but still pretty malleable sort of design. her furboots are supposed to mimic the ideas of clothing in some ways, like long draped sleeves. i also just really.. really like the idea of a more-calico-than-tortie maple in general, and her darker markings directly parallel all the white spotting on crooked’s design !! she also has a lot of strong and very jagged shape language, with little stray tufts of pointed fur jutting out from her body like spines on a stem.
