DEPRESSION TIPS
Shower or a bath. Use water as hot or cold as you like. You donβt even need to wash. Just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. Sit on the floor if you gotta.
If you canβt manage a shower baby wipes are a God send, so is dry shampoo and deodorant. If you can at minimum wash your face it makes a world of a difference
Try to brush your teeth if you can but if not use mouthwash, anything is better than nothing
Moisturize everything. Use whatever lotion you like. Unscented? Dollar store lotion? Fancy 48 hour lotion that makes you smell like a field of wildflowers? Use whatever you want, and use it all over your entire skin.
Put on clean, comfortable clothes. Pick out something cute that will make you feel good. Put on your favorite underwear. Cute black lacy panties? Those ridiculous boxers you bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? Put them on. Wear something you feel cute in! Not just underwear, but wearing a cute outfit can give a lil boost to the day, even if youβre just at home. It can feel like an accomplishment getting out of your PJs.
Drink cold water. Use ice. If you want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost. I always use lemon.
Keep cans of drinks (I like flavored bubbly water) so you donβt have to do dishes to get something to drink and itβs easy to keep cold in the fridge. Any liquid is better than no liquid so whatever you can get yourself to drink.
Make sure to be conscientious of the media you consume. If you follow people/pages/blogs that post depression memes, self deprecating humor, etc. unfollow them and try to replace them with recovery focused content. Mediate how much of the news you watch (when Iβm feeling bad I stay away from the news all together cause it just makes me feel worse). Listen to cathartic music if you need to but donβt get lost there. Watch movies that make you feel good and stay away from the heavier stuff until you feel better.
Clean something. Doesnβt have to be anything big. Organize one drawer of a desk. Wash five dirty dishes. Do a load of laundry. Scrub the bathroom sink.
Blast music. Listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something thatβs got lots of energy. Sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
Eat whatever you can even if its weird (Iβve been on an asparagus binge) or the βwrongβ time of day. If you manage the energy to cook try and make a lot of food so you can have easy left overs for the next couple of days in case you have low energy and donβt feel like cooking.
Make something. Write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, color in a coloring book, scribble, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. Even if you donβt think youβre good at it.
Go outside. Take a walk. Sit in the grass. Look at the clouds. Smell flowers. Put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
Call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. Talk to a stranger on the street. Have a conversation and listen to someoneβs voice. If you canβt bring yourself to call, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. Even if you donβt say much, listen to them. It helps.
Cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. Take pictures of them. Talk to them. Tell them how you feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out, anything.
And if itβs been a more than a couple of weeks reach out for help! You do NOT have to go through this alone. You may want to talk to a professional to get the right support to get back to feeling good
(please feel free to add!)
yβall my friend decided to investigate what was blocking their drain system and you are not prepared for the answer

Hey folks, got something new in the works. Been getting into speculative biology for a bit now, and ended up loosely outlining a desert-residing alien race!
What I'm working on is going to outline, less of the organism's actual day-to-day life, but rather how the space politics work in this universe, and where they(The unnamed organisms) fall in the grand scheme of it all. So, tldr; world world-building fun is on its way.
I must mention that this work won't be anything like "Humans are fundamentally coded", even if I am rather thankful and surprised with the number of notes it has gotten, so don't expect anything too HASO-y.
However; I have indeed been planning on re-writing "Humans are fundamentally coded," and am editing it as a side project. Honestly, I wrote that thing on the bus, so I wasn't expecting it to hit home for many, but here we are, lol.π After I edit and re-write it, I will be placing it into other platforms, like the HFY sub, and to Ao3, where I will be posting my other shorts as well.
I dont expect for this to reach many, if any of my followers, but if it does, I hope you guys will like what I have in store for you.

so, i've fallen down the "humans are weird" rabbit hole, and i couldn't help but notice most of it is about how humans are just really durable, adorable, friendly, how we'd pack bond with anything, about how we have such a hive-mind and empathy and determination to survive when things get rough, how we could survive things most other aliens would die from, how we could eat stuff that would poison other aliens, how we inject ink into our skin and pierce it with pieces of metal and drink toxic substances for the sake of entertainment..
it's always human defences and endurance
but i never see people talking about human **aggression**
like, imagine a spaceship happens to have several humans on it even if most residents are alien species, and two of the humans get in a fight.
and i'm not just talking physical, i'm sayin' all kinds of fights.
imagine if two humans got in a serious screaming match and genuinely hurt a few of the alien species sensitive to loud sounds as they watch, flabbergasted at how the two are literally yelling in each-other's faces without breaking a sweat or getting tired from it, while one of the sound-sensitive aliens literally passed out because it was SO loud
or imagine them simply being in shock after interacting with humans for a long time and having this image in their head of humans being so friendly and able to get along with anything and anyone, including stabby, or any predatory, aggressive species we just so happen to find cute. that image getting completely shattered seeing two of the humans they're friends with showing clear anger and aggression in a display they could only describe as "terrifying" in the most visceral sense of the word
or two humans getting in an actual physical fight, and here's where the *several* humans on ship part comes into play,
so the two are duking it out in a violent display of pure hatred while other humans, amused and thoroughly entertained by the violence that would already have put any of the less durable aliens out of commission gather around the fighting pair and start ominously chanting "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT"
prior, the aliens hadn't dared intervene or get any closer because either way they recognized it as a danger
meanwhile some humans JOIN IN for absolutely no reason and it becomes a full on riot
and the aliens just stare like ?????
confused at why they'd find it so endearing, at why they'd literally join for no reason at all, horrified by even just a punch to the gut because to some of the more vulnerable aliens that's their equivalent of literally getting an organ ripped out of them and somehow STILL fighting and then ripping out an organ out of the opponent themselves
and most of all, if humans are capable of befriending aggressive, large predatory beings and getting along with practically everything,
what from the fresh pits of hell triggered two *humans* to fight *each other* of all creatures?
(that is, assuming aliens don't have much knowledge of our history, wars, politics, etc of course.)
Humans are weird
Have yall noticed how we somehow have strange aversions towards lights?? Like maybe not all of us, but we kind of know that if someone is sitting in the dark, you either leave them or join them. Like last night, I walked into class and there was just one guy there and the lights were off so i just sat down, 30 minutes later everyone else was in and the lights were still off. Only turned it on when the professor came in...
So like imagine aliens finding us huddled in a dark room, with our phones and what-nots, silently laughing at something we read, maybe there are other aliens with us who doesnβt really like light but we don't know that cus it's dark and also we didn't bother to check. Then one crewmate just turns on the lights and we all collectively hiss like a vampire or hide like bugs, so they just turn it back off and stumble blindly into the room until they findβfeel through whatever they came for and leaves. No one ever mentions it.
Location: Former human homeworld, 2.4.8
Log Recorder: Nuahm of Addouu
The humans are gone. By gone I mean disappeared. They vanished oUt of thin aiR, every record, every trade deaL, every single item originating from their homeworld. Gone.
Even them.
Their planet, their solar system. That entire edge of the galaxy, trimmed away from existence. A black square of void, an even stretch of light years upon light years of space. Gone.
Many report having experienced loss of memory, or trouble recollecting what happened between star dates 117233.6 and 117233.8. One hour. In exactly one hour an entire part of our galaxy disappeared right under our noses. To add to that, extremely horrifying idea, I must mention and bring to attention that this lack of our edge of spaceβs most vital trading partner, was not noticed for approx FIVE of my home planetβs rotations around our star. Five. (Note: one rotation translates to two halves of Earthβs Sol rotations) The only reason anyone would have noticed was due to the Eloiβstkuuhβtgaunboteon, or as many species have taken to nickname them, Nunβcyna
The Nunβcyna are the only ones who remain unaffected by whatever erased the Humanβs from this plane of existence. (Note: That even Nunβcyna hybrids with neighboring kin species remain semi-aware of Humanityβs former presence in the galaxy.) This species notified the Collective Whole the moment they noticed something was wrong. Or thatβs what theyβre telling the reporters. Perhaps it is a translation error, but they do keep mentioning something. The translators often title that something as Giaginae. As if weβre supposed to know what Giaginae is.Β
The Nunβcyna have taken it upon themselves to tear through every piece of historical media the older space traveling civilizations have. No oneβs taken to stopping them yet, thereβs no reason to, really. Not when even the Nunβcyna are forgetting what theyβre looking for with every new generation. Eventually this.. Bigger problem will come to an end, a blip forgotten within the texts of Time. Perhaps it is better that way, to remain ignorant of whatever is powerful enough to devour an entire expanse of space.
Β After all, as we humans say,Β Ignorance is bliss.

HASO idea: what if all the other alien species developed during Pangean periods on their planet and they are like hold up wait you have MULTIPLE CONTINENTS? HOW DID YOU COMMUNICATE AND DEVELOP WITH THE OTHER CONTINENTS?
Then the humans describe what happenedβ¦
I donβt have the time to write this, but maybe someone else does.

Terrans
Humanity.
Listen well, for this is a tale of warning and of caution.
When humanity was first observed, many of the council thought they should be eradicated. A tumultuous and violent species who revelled in the destruction of their own kind. It was a close thing, but the council voted and humanity was allowed to develop - under the condition that none were to contact them until they were deemed ready.
Humanity never gave us the chance to do so.
They progressed their technology in timeframes yet unseen. They went from discovering electricity to landing on their own moon in a matter of decades - doing so with primitive technology, but it was a feat nonetheless.
From there they developed their own world - the space around their home planet Terra became a field of haphazard signals and messages, a bombardment of signals that interfered with our observational machinery. Due to this we werenβt ready when humanity ventured into the stars truly for the first time. They blasted themselves out of their atmosphere with controlled explosions of all things, their technology was nowhere near discovering antimatter coupling yet. Despite this they reached the edge of the quarantine zone within a matter of years, and we were discovered.
Despite our initial thoughts, humanity reacted very differently to us than expected. They didnβt wage wars on us, didnβt lay claim to our planets. They met us with unrestrained joy at finding others in the universe. They told us of their numerous attempts to reach out to us, and showed us some of their works of fiction that depicted how they imagined us (though they seemed to hide some others for reasons we couldnβt ascertain).
Humanity was welcomed into the stars, and they became commonplace. Their biology was baffling and their behaviour bizarre, but we accommodated them and they taught us how to work with them.
Centuries passed, and though the initial explorers were long gone, humanity had become a part of the council as low ranking members. Their species had become mostly peaceful, lowering their internal wars to less than skirmishes. Humanityβs violent and cruel nature seemed to have been tempered by the stars.
We were wrong.
From beyond the councils borders, beyond the observable space in the void, a threat appeared. They blasted through our sensors and demolished our border colonies in hours. Our intel on them was near zero due to the ferocity they annihilated our kin.
They reached the inner borders of the council, and the elder members prepared for a bitter battle. To our surprise, humanity asked to join the defence. They told us that their kin had settled on some of the border colonies, and that many had lost loved ones. We allowed humanity to join our last fight, even if we didnβt expect them to affect the battle.
We were wrong.
Many of my comrades who survived the battle have sleep terrors to this day. Not of the void settlers, but of the humans. The cruelty and viciousness we thought had disappeared from their culture came back with a vengeance. Who we had seen as scientists and farmers for centuries, comrades we had known for decades - they showed us that monsters donβt come from the void.
The void settlers never stood a chance. The council was barely able to get in formation before the battle was ended. If the void bringers tactics were ferocious, then the Terranβs were monstrous. For every ship they lost, every life they sacrificed, the void settlers lost a battalion, a planetβs worth of lives.
This loss brought the void settlers much shame and anger. They made a mistake that haunts me to this day. They used their speed to reach Terra before the council could relay to the humans the threat. Humanity watched as Terra split, as trillions of their families and non-fighting members were eradicated.
The fighting ceased. Humanity seemed to have frozen. Their fleets stopped dead in space and their communications went silent. Where humanity had been surrounded by wavelengths and frequencies that interfered with some technology still, the space around them became eerily silent, as though the death of the planet had killed even those off world.
The void settlers continued their attack on the council and disregarded Humanity. No need to worry about a broken opponent⦠Right?
They were wrong.
The Terranβs werenβt dead, or even broken. It was later revealed that the freeze had been due to grief. Humanity had lost its home world, but worse than that it had lost its peaceable citizens. The ones who should have been safe from the conflict.
All of humanity had watched, and all of humanity had grieved. But they were not broken.
The void settlers learnt this very soon.
Humanity descended on them in ways that made the last defence seem like a diplomatic discussion. We though we had seen the worst of humanity in our early observations. WE. WERE. WRONG.
Humanity has a saying βHell hath no wrath like a woman scornedβ, but the council has adapted it: βThe void hath no wrath like a Terran without a homeβ.
The void settlers were routed from every planet they had taken. They retreated to the void leaving behind their technology and supplies, not even taking the time to recover some of their teams. But the humans didnβt stop.
In a move that the council had forbidden for millennia, the humans flew into the void. The entirety of the Terran race disappeared into the blackness beyond space and wasnβt heard from for longer than we had known of them.
The council mourned their losses, but viewed their final act as something done out of the madness of their loss. The Terranβs were remembered as warriors, as fighters, but also as family. They became known to those of us whoβd seen them fight as βThe angels of Deathβ.
I never expected to see a Terran again, assumed that the void had devoured them and their destructive grief with them. But one day a vessel I was onboard, tasked with assessing possible colonies to rebuild in the border planets - it detected something.
The frequencies and wavelengths of data that had only ever been human in nature. They were coming from the void.
The council watched as humanity emerged unexpected for the second time.
The flagship docked with our observation vessel, and the leaders came aboard to see us. I vaguely recognised the captain. Their features so slightly similar to the grief driven warrior weβd watched descend into the void. We asked what had happened, and the captain responded with the most chilling visage I had seen since the first footage of the void settlers. Their baring of their teeth was savage and joyous. So similar to the expression we saw at first meeting, yet so distorted. In that moment I saw what could have happened if the Terranβs had waged war on us.
βWe won.β

Matt sighed through his nose as he turned off his workstation and glanced up and out of the office window, into the transport sector where he worked on board the spinning station. From here, new arrivals and materials would be shuttled off to wherever they were needed aboard the station itself.
hrmm. well hold on now ive been filled with a sudden joy and whimsy for the world
i think we're all going to be okay maybe
Ayeeeee first post. English not first language, might not have good grammar, correct me if smth is wrong.
I have seen ppl write aliens talking in a very... scholar way(dunno if thats the right word), like they are using big and smart sounding words. And there is nothing wrong with that. But consider slangs. For each generation our slangs changes. Bae, innit, bruh, sus, geezer, cool bean, all that sort of things. So when humans first enter the galaxy and the aliens tried figure out our language for the translation but havent got the hang of it, its just sounded smth like
____
*human work in a new ship*
Aliens: Top of the morning to ya! Welcome to the crew, we are delight to have you here bruv. Lemme show you to your crib.
Humans: ... ummm ok?
____
*alien introducing the new human crew menber to the rest of the crew*
Aliens: Watch out for Xiles'pjs, xey are a crackerjack at navigation but are a bit sus. Rumors have that they are quite the gunrunner when xey were a youngin.
Human: what?!?
Aliens: Oh, and Pjaif over there are dope. They are the chillest around here. And xer cooking is bussin, no cap.
Human: *visible confusion*

I'm not suicidal I did not try to kill myself.
I remember the memories of that night clearly. The song I played as my 12 year old self found it too hard to continue on. The night was the same as it had been those many times before. I wasn't struggling, not really. It was just the only night where I found I didnt care if my mother found me on the couch, dead and cold to the touch.
I cant imagine doing that to her anymore.
I didnt attempt.
I mean, sure by all definition and means I did attempt, I did down those pills with the intention to simply not exist a few hours later.
By definition, the dictionary says I did.
I find the dictionary lacks some things within it sometimes.
I didnt attempt, I remind myself as I stumble across a poem about being passively suicidal.
I didnt attempt I assure myself as I remember writing down that note.
I didnt attempt I yell at myself because I barely even felt ill after.
I didnt attempt because there is no feeling behind what I did.
There was no sadness, no sorrow no grieving no anger. My memories arent even from a first person perspective. Ive detached myself so far from those memories it feels like a dream.
It wasnt an attempt.
It was too weak of one to count.
Attempts are supposed to be out of desperation right?
I didnt attempt.
I didnt.
I did not.
I think that, the idea that I didnt is far simpler to accept then facing the thought that I did.
That scares me
Not alot of things scare me now, but that scares me.
That thought scares me more than death.
How ironic.
I feel bad for it.
I feel bad for making my parents cry because I was too weak to handle the life they gifted me with.
They didnt do anything wrong
Im sorry for making you cry mom, dad.
I don't deserve your tears, not because of my mistakes.
Sometimes I find my thoughts drifting to self harm. Ive never done it before, ive been too much of a wimp to actually try. Thoughts of cutting myself pop into my brain and the image projects itself onto my arms as I stare at my hands and wonder the best place to put them so I could hide them easily.
Im not Scuicidal. Not anymore.
But sometimes those thoughts still haunt me. And im scared.
And that's a good thing.
