Non-Spoiler Supergirl Movie Review
Great, honestly.
Milly Alcock as Kara is really charming and while I think the writing could have used a few more tweaks, Supergirl's character still really shines. Ruthye is fun, the little bits of Clark that we see are cute, and Lobo is still the hilarious guy that he is. All the actors are giving a good performance and I think the characterization is pretty good
People sometimes make points on if having Lobo in the movie was even necessary, but I think he provided a good opposite point of view for Ruthye to think about while questing for revenge, and he added some charm to the movie I wasn't expecting. I also think that part of the reason for his introduction was because they want to use Lobo in future projects and this was the best way they could think of introducing him. The downside to this was that they couldn't really flesh out Krem as a villian as much as I would have liked, which made him seem kind of weak and forgettable, but superhero movies often have that as a weak spot anyways so that's not really something that I'm mad over.
The dialogue at times was a bit weaker, but most the time was great and pretty natural. Once again though, I think the writing could have been worked on just a little more to smooth out some of the plot to feel more fluid, as some parts of the story felt a bit too long while other portions felt a bit too rushed, like how they should have been focused on more things like Krem as a villian, Ruthye's grief, etc.
Overall, it was pretty good and a really fun time. Maybe not as polished as I think Superman (2025) was, but that mostly comes down to taste and I would recommend this movie to any Supergirl lovers, superhero lovers, and anyone who just wants a fun action movie to enjoy this summer. A good addition to the DC universe. 7/10
