like. i was always curious how chris ended up getting captured in jill’s playthrough. there's like no explanation at all and it feels kinda shoved in. in comparison to chris’s where jill getting captured makes more sense because she and wesker were alone together at the start

BUT another thing i kinda found interesting. in chris’s playthrough when you find jill in the cell, jill brings up wesker immediately.

“chris?” “jill!” “chris, wesker’s the—”  “i know.”

i also find it kinda funny how he interrupts her immediately LOL but that's not the point (actually if we’re going into headcanon territory here i like to view that line as chris still lwk being in denial and not wanting to hear any of it)

but for some reason in jill’s playthrough when you find chris in the cell. chris talks Way more than jill does and yet does nawt mention wesker or how he even got in that cell

“jill?” “chris! you’re alive!” “course i’m alive.” “jill, there’s something big going down, and i don't think we’re part of the equation.”

it’s weirdly vague. wdym there's something big going down. why are you in a cell. how do you even know this information.

and ngl. i think i had a eureka moment. i’ve always thought that wesker wanted chris to join him so i was likeee. 🤔🤔 what if they came across each other and wesker tried to get chris to join him but he said no 🤔🤔so wesker locked him away 🤔🤔and chris still has a bit of a subconscious loyalty to wesker so he's like 🤔🤔not gonna be the one to say wesker is behind it 🤔🤔if he doesn't have to 🤔🤔

i like how despite the fact both chris and jill say the same thing when examining wesker's body it just feels Different

"what a pathetic way to die..." can be taken as either pitying or mocking depending on how u view it. and i think in chris's case it is pity and in jill's shes mocking him

esp because of how they react to weskers "death". like when wesker is impaled in chris's playthrough he calls wesker's name and runs forward like he wants to try and save him. meanwhile if the same thing happens in jill's playthrough she just stands there

i've seen people say this is because chris is more emotional and jill is more pragmatic but i think its sorta deeper than that. jill is pragmatic yes but that doesn't mean she's emotionless.

i think just based on context clues and their interactions in the game itself that chris and wesker were much closer than jill and wesker were. the way wesker is the one to often help chris in his playthrough meanwhile he barely appears in jill's playthrough just adds to that

LIKE. lets not even start with “it appears our fates are forever intertwined” or whatever no actually lets start with that. WHAT? WHY DID HE SAY THAT??? like that sounds weirdly romantic no matter How you take it. and bro sounds lwk fond when he says it too like ok i guess hes not mad about it

AND THEN. in chris’s file in re5. there’s ANOTHER instance of this but just worded differently.

“and [chris] was forced to face the man whose destiny appeared to be intertwined with his own.” WHAT!!!!!!! DESTINY APPEARED TO BE INTERTWINED WITH HIS OWN?!?! WHAAAAT!!!

lets not even start with it in the italian translation. in italian its EVEN FUCKING WORSEEEE BRO.

"and was forced to confront the man whose destiny appeared even more intertwined with his than ever before" rough translation but. EVEN MORE??? THAN EVER BEFORE?!?! WHAAAT!! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!!!!!!!

in the "chris and wesker" file in re6. the japanese line goes like "Chris confronted Wesker as he plotted a global bioterror attack in Africa, where Wesker became a B.O.W. and was defeated after a battle to the death. Thus, their relationship spanning over a decade was put to an end."

but it was translated to "In 2009, Chris found himself in Africa as he attempted to stop Albert from murdering a majority of the planet's population. During their battle, Albert mutated himself into a B.O.W., but he was killed thanks to Chris and his partner, Sheva Alomar. Thankfully, Albert's plans of global genocide were never realized." in the english version

the jp line is so much more.... Woah... their relationship spanning over a decade.... it puts specific focus on their relationship and doesnt even MENTION sheva weirdly enough

you could say “trigger discipline” but thats a stupid argument and you know it. why would he not be actively ready to shoot chris?? well whether it was subconscious or not its cause he didnt WANT to shoot chris in that scene. plain and simple. if he wanted to he would’ve at LEAST had his FINGER ON THE FUCKING TRIGGERRRR!!!!!

i think at his core he wanted chris to understand him. he wanted chris to have a “change of heart” and join him. i think wesker truly believed that chris was good enough for this “new world” of his. esp the line where he’s like “WHY CAN’T YOU UNDERSTAND!!!” idk if you’d say that to someone if you really dgaf if they understand or not and just want them dead. but hey. thats just my opinion. 

also a bit of a throwback to the line from re1 where wesker goes “you’ll never understand, chris”. he says that and then raves on about his science project like he Wants chris to understand and i think thats the same in re5 but hes more blatant about it.

when chris appears enrico is like. Dont come any closer!!!! Double Crosser……….. and points a fucking gun at him. like enrico thinks CHRIS is the traitor or involved somehow.

but with jill he just tells her to stay back. and then calmly asks if shes with anyone. before explaining that theres a traitor.

(i also like how wesker shoots enrico right as he is pointing the gun at chris but then on jill’s run wesker only shoots enrico after he begins to fully explain the traitor thing. like bro hesitates a bit with jill but as Soon as enrico points a gun at chris that mf is shooting 😭😭Which could mean nothing(it def could mean nothing i just like digging into things))

ngl my first thought is that since chris and wesker were (seemingly. based on quite a lot of other evidence) closer with each other than jill and wesker were that enrico thought chris might be in on it. if you take it this way it has a lot of implication….

to start it off, my brain immediately goes to the second time you meet him and the fact that wesker smiles when chris appears and does Not smile when jill appears … a small detail but i always thought it was pretty cute tbh. and interesting if you overthink things like i do

also the way he talks to them in these scenes just feel really different?? i guess digging into how lines are said probably isnt the most Concrete evidence for anything but what is the point of existing if you cant dig into things. voice acting exists for a reason

like. “chris… (pause) you’re alive” vs “jill. so you’re safe.” ??????????????? listen to the way he says the line to jill and its so weirdly blunt 😭 he sounds relieved when he talks to chris (whether that is a front or not. You decide.) but when talking to jill he lwk sounds disappointed. or just like. really dry. like he doesn't care at all and doesn’t bother to hide it

and then just bringing up the og re1 because. yeah. i’ve gotta. despite the bad voice acting. he sounds happy to see chris and then sounds genuinely Disgusted to see jill it’s actual comedy LMFAAOOO… and even if we say its a front. that shows that he cares about what chris thinks of him in comparison to what jill thinks of him. For Some Reason….

the third meeting just straight up doesn’t exist in jill’s playthrough which makes sense. i just wanna briefly mention it because it Is an extra mini cutscene that chris has revolving wesker.

alright. the betrayal scene. there is genuinely so much to talk about here that i am baffled. i don’t know where to start tbh

with jill’s solo cutscene, when she enters the room, wesker doesnt even comment on her specifically. he just shit talks barry. when chris enters the room bro has the irresistible urge to say that chris makes him proud no matter if hes solo or not like okay

wesker was genuinely about to shoot jill before barry shot him. and then lets compare that to … wesker showing off his science project ??

something i noticed. “i don’t think you want to die just yet, i have something thats of some interest to you” said to chris is kind of an interesting line to me. like yes i’m probably digging too deep but hear me out. the way it’s said kinda makes me think wesker had expected chris to see the tyrant and be like… Damn… Holy shit… You were right wesker this is Amazing… or at least understand his point of view. but Obviously. chris did not.

i really do think that wesker wanted chris to join him. we don’t know much about their relationship pre-re1, but we do know that chris typically didn’t have a good relationship with authority figures, and yet he seems to be on pretty good terms with wesker. what made wesker different ?? 

the scene where wesker “dies”, chris instinctively runs forward and calls his name before stopping himself. wesker literally killed all of chris’s friends, betrayed STARS, and just shot rebecca point blank in front of him. and yet chris runs forward as if he wanted to save him. 

yeah you can call that instinct or whatever but if that were me i’d be CHEEEERINGGGGG like are you fr?? shooting rebecca should mean instant death for anyone. okay nah fr though. it’s somewhat heartbreaking that chris still showed visible concern for wesker despite everything that had happened between them. it makes me think that they were previously close in some way.

also. jill does NOT run towards wesker or even say his name in surprise as he gets impaled. she just stands there. which. yeah. completely valid of her to do that. but like it shows that she did not gaf about wesker after what he did in comparison to chris. 

the fact that wesker only helps chris is interesting too. yes theres gameplay reasons. chris doesnt have barry. jill has barry. but also we arent analyzing the gameplay now are we. theres obvious lore implications to the fact they chose wesker to be the one helping instead of rebecca. yes rebecca doesnt share the exact same role as barry but you get what i mean??

like. imagine wesker taking his time to fix the fucking doorknob are you kidding?? hello?? literally why did he do that. he could’ve just left the bullets but no. “i also fixed the doorknob 😊” WHY DID YOU DO THAT ???? ill be so fr the fact that he leaves bullets can be more easily passed off. he wants chris to be able to fight back and show off his strengths yaknow. but FIXING THE DOORKNOB??? yeah okay. let me make this more convenient for you for no reason at all. 

i genuinely cant think of a reason he’d do that other than him just genuinely wanting to make it nicer for chris. if he hadn’t done it chris wouldn’t have even thought about the idea of wesker fixing the doorknob so its not like chris would’ve been like??? aghhh i cant believe he didnt fix the DOORKNOB like no. wesker just wanted to be nice. and fym wesker wanted to be nice???

i wanna also bring up re5 and its correlation to some of this but. BUT. i think i should make that its own post. so i think im gonna leave it here.

in an untranslated book there’s something about how wesker was displeased that jill lost her personality while being under the p30. i think at his core he’s a very lonely person. and no matter how much he tries to “evolve” from humanity he is still a human, therefore he feels human emotions despite trying to push them away.

like he was upset that she lost her personality because at his core he just wanted someone to understand him. not as a mindless slave but as someone who used to respect him and work with him. and ngl the fact jill literally looks like his sister in re5 makes me feel that even more. like in a metaphorical sense he wanted someone to be like him. if that makes sense.

i think a big part of why he captured jill was to get back at chris (because tbh everything he does is against chris 😭 😭), but also to get back at jill herself. i think he resented the fact that chris and jill were “free” compared to him even if he didn’t realize that’s what he was feeling. he wanted to force jill into doing his bidding as some sort of petty revenge because he hates the fact that he can’t be as free as she was. idk if any of this makes sense but it’s always been how i view his character. 😁
