Not only this but his Stockholm syndrome rubs off on other parts of his life. Every time the fandom glorifies his violent tendencies or portrays him as someone with no emotions or free will they are only playing into the idea that mental illness and trauma is inherently scary and that abuse survivors don’t deserve help if they have violent tendencies as a result of their illness. No, his illness is not an excuse for his actions, but it does explain why he needs help rather than to be outcast and the more the fandom tries to say that he’s truly happy in the lie he’s living, the more they are perpetuating the idea that abuse victims simply need to learn to get over it and be happy in the situation they’re in and then everything will be fine.
