I eventually settled on slightly paler colors, black eyes and stitches for the zombies. The white eyes just... looked like I had forgotten to draw the irises in, even after adding blood around the corners, and the pupils just made them look alive, which I was trying to avoid.
Also, showing decapitation with these guys is hard, like, where do I put the blood? There's no space for a dramatic line of blood across the neck when there is no neck?! Ah, also, this is referencing the poster of Dario Argento's Tenebrae (Even If you are scared of horror movies, you should listen to the soundtrack, it is *muah* exquisite).
Which isn't a zombie movie, but it's still a horror movie I like so. I say it counts. Anyways, The definitive zombie rules for this au are:
Only the already deceased can become zombies.
Zombies are created through a serum, not a bacteria or virus.
Zombies are not infectious, but they are still cannibals.
The fresher the zombie, the more like it's living counterpart it will be, but more violent.
Dismemberment does not kill them, and their separated body parts will continue moving.
They are not slower or faster than their living counterpart (unless you cut of their legs).
No Shadow the Hedgehog, gunshots just put holes in them, but don't kill them.
They do not breathe, so they can't drown or asphyxiate.
Consider "killing it with fire".
