the soaring hero.

   Hospitalized.

   The word flows through her mind. Better than being found dead- better than being dead. She’s home. She’s home.

   Just focus on that.

   Mirko sharply inhales- both of her hands covering either side of her face, and slowly dragging down- before pressing together palm to palm in front of her mouth, and lowering down to her waist. The sheer amount of venom in her body language and her voice- the frustration- all melted away as she re-centered herself, and looked upon Sparrow again with a much more calm demeanor.

          “ … You need to rest . “           “ No ifs . No ands . No buts . “

          “ Go to bed . Now . It’s late .  I’ll talk to you in a few minutes . “

             ❛❛   i .... know you said not to say    NO   ,   but i’ve been asleep for the past three days at most - so . i’d ... rather not right now if that’s okay ?   ❜❜   she knew that was probably going to get her a stern look , but she didn’t want to sleep , sleeping meant memories and she didn’t want to remember . 

            plus  ,  she’s not sure how to sleep - at the hospital they were able to keep her off her wings but at home ? laying on her stomach like normal was out of the question , laying on her back was uncomfortable - she’d be in pain no matter what she did .

         “….why am i not surprised?” he can’t quite tell if she’s joking or not, but it would make sense. there’s certainly something effective about staffing an agency with bird-types. especially ones with wings. but tokoyami doesn’t understand why he’s here. outside of appearance, he has nothing in common with these people. and despite hawks’ initial interest in him, the hero hasn’t done much to make him feel useful. or even welcome.

“is it always like this?” he asks, looking absently around the room. taking it in. “him doing the work, us cleaning up the mess? honestly, i’m not sure i could keep up, anyway…”

          ❛❛   to be honest - this is a   SLOW DAY   so , it’s not always like this.  it can get pretty hectic - and you’re not expected to keep up right now  - and in my opinion you’re doin’ great already.  ❜❜   she stands straight , stretching her arms above her head with a small sigh. hawks must have something planned - unless the plan was to leave the kid behind but she really doubted that .

   Mirko was quick to take on the prospect of Sparrow being missing with full professionalism; picking up old tricks she still remembered from her time running her agency and employing them for the task of finding her. There was a corkboard set up in the living room, with a map of Musutafu- Fukuoka- Hosu- any of the cities Sparrow could’ve potentially patrolled in, or where there was a conflict large enough that Sparrow might’ve been called on to swoop in for rescues or some other kind of support.

   And there was a hole in the wall, where Mirko had punched the drywall to dust out of frustration. All of her other tasks were done, her patrolling for the day was done- and then it was just another sleepless night of trying to track down her fri… her roommate. She’d gone so long without rest, that when the door opened, she didn’t even react, in spite of her hyper-sensitive ears. However, when that voice reaches them- she turns around with all the strength and drive of a fully caffeinated and rested moon rabbit.

          “ - where have you been . “

                                           she doesn’t answer right away , instead her focus goes to the scene in her apartment. it was clear that mirko had been searching for her - and if she’s being honest. it brought some   RELIEF  to know that she cared enough to do so , though it quickly washes away as she focuses back on her roommate. she’s unable to tell, what the mood is - worry? ANGER? possibly a mix of both. all she knows is she doesn’t blame her for being upset. she owed her an explanation - but all she could think of was ...

                                          it’s not a full explanation - it doesn’t go into the details of what had happened. she opens her mouth to say more - but quickly goes silent shaking her head. the thought of talking about it brought back memories that she just wanted to FORGET , she didn’t want to remember.

              “so… does hawks just like to collect bird-type quirks, or what?” tokoyami glances around the agency office, speaking to the only other person in the room at the moment. it’s been only a day, but he already feels out of his element. his eyes dart to sparrow, and he folds his arms over his chest. “how long have you been working for him?”

                   ❛❛   i think it’s one of the   MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS   ❜❜   she snorts - leaning against her hand as she put her focus on him. hawks had told her that one of UA’s students would be showing up , which is why she was on patrol alone for the next few days.     

                ❛❛   to be fair , i did say leaving me alone with a class of chaotic teenagers was a bad idea , does anyone listen to me? noo. i never said i was RESPONSIBLE enough to make sure you kids don’t , burn the school down !    ❜❜   

         she was use to stares , it came with the job of being a hero - it also didn’t help that a lot of people took interest in her wings. however this was going on for a quite a lot longer than normal. she could just walk away and ignore it but ... that wouldn’t be very heroic of her, would it ?

          she had vanished without a word , until finally she appeared again now standing outside their apartment where she had been dropped off moments before by an assistant from her agency. they had offered to help her , but even in her current state of bruises, burns, and bandages she wouldn’t accept the help.

          it takes a bit , movement slow both to try and lower the risk of hitting her wings against the nearby railing , and because she can hardly see the lock of the door. eventually though she manages to get it unlocked - stepping inside.

          she hopes no ones home , but she doesn’t feel lucky at all.

          ‘   i’m  holding  you  to  that .     if  anyone  tries  to  get  me  to  socialise  —  or  worse ,     dance  —  you’re  the  one  responsible  for  what  happens .    ‘     that  might  have  been  a  slight  exaggeration ….     maybe ….     with  asuka  one  could  never  be  too  sure .     it  was  always  safe  to  presume  the  worst  if  she  was  involved     &&.     given  the  situation     &&.     have  very  much  asuka  didn’t  want  to  be  in  it ,     there  was  a  high  chance  that  tonight  could  end  very  poorly .

that  is ,     of  course ,     someone  was  dumb  enough  to  ask  her  to  dance . 

          ‘   if  that’s  the  only  good  thing  you  can  have  to  say  about  tonight ,     we’re  fucked .   ‘     although  it  probably  was  the  only  good  thing  to  say  about  this  charity  event .     ‘   &&.     don’t  you  mean  you  can  fangirl  over  the  heroes  —  or  one  in  particular ….     because  he  will  be  there  you  realise ,     while  you  have  access  to  alcohol .   ‘   

                                              she wasn’t fully focused on the conversation - but it’s clear to tell when her attention was grabbed. at the mention of him and alcohol in the same sentence she freezes. eternally DEBATING if she wanted to continue the plan of going to the event.

not that she had a choice, as she had promised her agency that she would be there.

        “MY APOLOGIES, i’m still learning faces.” there’s a laugh that seems, if you listen close enough, a bit strained. but hidden behind a big smile, it’s barely noticeable. 

“that may be, but your expertise must be top-notch to be entrusted with the next generation of heroes!” all might beams. “BESIDES! search and rescue is by far the most important job a hero can have.” it’s hard to remember sometimes that even all might’s main field of work is focused in rescue, what with all the punching of villains he’s been doing recently. “you have a crucial responsibility, here!”

           the compliments cause her to give a nervous laugh - hand moving to rub her neck as her nose scrunches. she should be use to it by now , but it was a bit different coming from someone like him .
