gif by @/bladeofdreadfort. wc. 4.5k ! hotd s3 is finally here and so does my man gwayne <3 i really loved writing this so i hope youâll enjoy it!
For the longest time, Gwayne had known that the matter of his marriage were not his to ponder. As the son of the Hand of the King, his future was a tapestry woven by him in a series of cunning, calculated moves.
Yet, he had never truly expected to be betrothed to youâa princess of the realm.
The young princess for the queenâs brother. By every measure, it was a masterful stroke of politics and his father had once again outdone himself. After binding his sister to the king, it was now his turn to seek the heart of the realmâs most coveted maiden after the Princess Rhaenyra.
However, to Gwayne, you were more than just a political alliance. You were a paragon of beauty, the girl haunting his dreams, the princess who has stolen his heartâ
But seven hells, were you also one hard lady to entice.
Every charming smile he threw your way was met with an arched, unimpressed brow. Every poetic compliment he rehearsed tasted like ash and shattered against your coldness. You didnât swoon like the ladies at the tourney grounds, nor did you soften at his obvious attempts to woo you.
Instead, you looked at him as if you could see right through the nervous man underneath.
Your assessing gaze was currently fixed on him from the shade of the courtyard gallery. Down in the dirt, Gwayne was sweating through his padded doublet, trying his absolute best to look formidable as his sword clashed against his squireâs shieldâbecause he knew you were watching.
He has to look good. Your wedding was in three weeks, so he was fighting to impressâdetermined to give you a show of how your betrothed was as dashing as the realm claimed him to be.
With theatrical flair, he executed an aggressive sequence before driving his squire back with a heavy strike, deftly sweeping the poor ladâs legs out from under him, and sending him sprawling into the dirt with a breathless thud.
Breathing heavily, Gwayne smoothly rested the point of his sword near the fallen boyâs chest in a classic pose of victory.
âYou are just dead,â he declared with his signature grin, before turning to where you were.
You leaned against the stone balustrade, looking down at him with an expression of mild, patronizing amusement. He flashed you a hopeful, boyish grin that begged for even a shred of your approval.
And as if deciding to grace him with your presence, you descended down the stone stairs. Gwayneâs smile widened, and he met you halfway as you reached the bottom.
Ignoring the staring stableboys, he dipped his head and took your hand, placing a kiss on it.
âPrincess,â he greeted, his dark blue eyes meeting yours with an excited crinkle.
âAn impressive display, Ser Gwayne,â you replied, smoothly pulling your hand back from his grasp. He was giddy, about to thank you for the compliment, whenâ
âI must commend your passion. It takes a truly remarkable knight to exert such effort against a boy half his size who is actively paid to lose to him.â
Gwayne winced slightly, but the grin quickly returned to his face, refusing to let your sharp tongue deter him.
âA knight, no matter the age, must practice for all manner of foes. It shall be a good lesson for my squire to learn,â he countered softly. He had always been a naturally courteous man, but he had been practicing an extra measure of gentleness ever since the betrothal was announced, even when you remained frosty.
He hoped that you would recognize itâthat you would see he was willing to bend his pride just for you.
However, you merely lifted your chin higher, your eyes flashing with a challenge.
âIs that so? My, what a chivalrous soul you are. I suppose I shall sleep soundly knowing you are defending the realm with your immense prowess and formidable army of squires.â
One thing he could never truly understand, though... he hadnât asked for this match any more than you had, yet why did you look at him as you would a liar?
And it hurts because... he remembers how the more innocent, younger you, who had wiped blood from his face, hadnât looked at him as you do now.
âWe are to be married in no less than a moon,â he reminded you, still with a smile. âTell me, Princess... what must a man do to earn a genuine compliment from his bride?â
You held his gaze for a beat, letting the silence stretch just long enough to watch the slight twitch in his jaw. Then, a devastatingly sweet smile graced your lips as you tilted your head.
âCompliments are but wind, my good ser. If we are to marry soon anyways, what use would flattering you with empty words do?â
Gwayne let out a defeated chuckle. âI shall just continue striving to become a man worthy of your hand, then.â
You had just insulted him and mocked his swordsmanship in the same breath, and yet, somehow, he still found himself tethered to you still.
What a fool he was.
He didnât give up just like that, of course. Gifts was also Gwayneâs language of affection.
He had commissioned a seven-pointed star necklace for you in Oldtown, crafted from the finest silver and diamond. He had watched his late mother and sister find such profound comfort in it, and so he had believed it would make a fine gift for you.
Yet, now that he presented the gleaming jewelry to you, you were rendered silent.
âYou do not like it,â he realized, a note of disappointment building through his usual confidence.
âIt is exquisite. Truly,â you started, your voice gentle but lacking the reverence he had anticipated. âBut... you must not expect me to wear it often.â
âIs it the design? If it offends your sensibilities, I can have it redone, orââ
âI assure you, I know your intentions are kind,â you looked at him, a certain sternness in your eyes. âIt is just a matter of preference, is all. I treasure this necklace from my mother rather greatly, and wearing it is how I keep her close to me.â
The tragic death of Queen Aemma was not so easily forgotten, least of all when you resembled her so much. Gwayneâs smile faltered, the enthusiasm in his eyes dimming when his gaze found the sapphire necklace of Arryn falcon on your neck, a heirloom passed down.
He looked down at the silver star resting in the wooden box, suddenly finding it so plain, before forcing himself to meet your gaze again.
âI just want you to know that... you are in my thoughts, constantly,â he murmured, his gaze rising to meet yours again. âWhenever I see something I consider beautiful, I think of you. I want you to have it. You should know I have no underlying intentions other than that.â
You gave him an appreciative nod, pursing your lips together. âYour kind thoughts are much appreciated.â
So he had failed, again. Sigh.
What better way to impress your betrothed and prove to the entire realm that you were worthy of her hand than by claiming victory at the Kingâs nameday tourney?
Even you would at least bestow a real smile upon him. That was what Gwayne was after.
Or at least, it was until his gaze drifted to the edge of the battlement grounds where the knights were assembling. There, he saw you.
With Criston Cole.
The sight struck him. You, who usually looked at him with indifference, were attentive, your eyes bright in a way Gwayne had never managed to make them. Cole, in turn, had a reserved smile, his attention entirely locked onto you.
It could have been anyone but Cristonâthe Dornishman!âCole. Why him?!
A sharp spike of resentment flared in his chest. He decided right then and there that this cannot stand, and marched towards you both.
âGood day, Ser Criston,â Gwayne greeted with a forced smile, his voice dripping with a courtly cheer that didnât quite reach his eyes.
Cole returned his greeting, and he turned to you then. âMy betrothed, fancy to have found you here. You shouldnât have to sully yourself with the dirt.â
âI was merely wishing Ser Criston luck in the lists.â As always, the corners of your lips curled into that faux smile whenever facing him. âThe competition looks fierce today.â
What about him? You hadnât thought of wishing him, your own groom, luck?
âFierce for some, mayhaps,â Gwayne nodded, his smile sharpening as he took another step forward, deliberately cutting off Criston Coleâs line of sight to you. He reached out, his gauntleted hand gently but firmly taking yours.
âBut I sure do not fear a crowd of knights of modest beginnings and second sons. And I have hoped that I might find you in the stands later, and you would bestow upon me your favor to assure me of my victory.â
He looked down at you, the forced arrogance in his eyes momentarily cracked. He wanted you to look at him the way you had just looked at Cole, really.
But cruel, relentless you never granted it so easily.
âYour romantic sensibilities are commendable, ser.â You let out a soft sigh, as if lamenting, âbut victory is still guaranteed by skill and the favor of the Seven, and not merely from a scrap of silk.â
The rejection was subtle, but in the presence of Criston Cole, it felt like a public execution.
âIt is said even a scrap of favor from oneâs bride can turn the tide of many battles,â Gwayne replied, his voice dropping an octave as the last traces of courtly cheer evaporated. âUnless, of course, your favor has already been promised to someone else?â
His eyes flicked towards Cole, searching for a reason to draw steel before the tourney even began. And that Dornish wretch had the gall to look at him in the eyes and retorted:
âMay the best knight win, ser.â
Your betrothed had become terribly displeased and you knew it. Your hollow smile deepened, you stepped forward and smoothly slid your hand into the crook of his arm.
âNo, no. You are free to ask me for it later, of course, my dear.â
Gwayne knew better that the honeyed words held no real affection. Yet, like a moth drawn to a flame, he couldnât help but fall for it each and every time.
You held his leash, and you knew exactly how far you could play with and stretch it. But as he looked at you, a quiet ache settled in his soul.
Is it truly so wrong of him to seek your heart? How much longer would he have to endure this torment, giving everything while his affections remained completely unreturned?
âFrom today to the day we breathe our last, all that I am is yours.â
That was the first thing he told you when the betrothal was announced. In a den of vipers, Gwayne Hightower was entirely his own man.
He didnât possess the calculating ambition of his father, who viewed every living soul as a piece in his game of thrones. Nor was he prudent like his sister, Queen Alicent, whose motto in life was duty and sacrifice.
You know that. You really knew that your chosen betrothed was everything but unkind. He was everything the songs promised a knight should beâ genuine, posh, with a touch of arrogance that made him charming. He held you in high regard, and his attempts to make an impression on you were sweet.
Despite how you behaved around him, the truth was... it took everything in you not to fall for Ser Gwayne Hightower.
But he is still Ottoâs son. You hated the Lord Hand with every fiber of your beingâthe manâs thirst for power had already forced your childhood companion Alicent into your fatherâs bed, turned your sister Rhaenyra into a scheming cynic, and your own betrothal to Gwayne was just another piece of his grand design.
However, watching the tourney unfold from the royal box, your thoughts swirled with guilt and anxiety. In the end, he hadnât asked for your favor at all. Ironically, his sudden silence unsettled you far more than his persistence ever had.
Looking back on your interactions, the weight of your biting marks pressed heavily against your chest. You had rejected him so many times, using your faux smiles and sharp wit as shields. Every time you remembered the look of hurt that crossed his face before he masked it with a patient smile, a fresh wave of guilt washed over you.
Did he deserve to be punished just for pursuing you? Was it fair to make him pay for his fatherâs sins?
Down in the dirt, Gwayne rode beautifully, unseating two seasoned knights from the Reach and splitting lances with a Lannister to thunderous applause from the crowd. For a moment, watching his silver and green armor gleam in the sunlight, a spark of pride flared in your chest.
Then, Ser Criston Cole rode onto the field.
The tension between the two men was palpable even from the high stands. They chargedâ one lance shattered, then a second. By the third pass, it was clear it was a matter of pride.
And on the fourth pass, the collision was catastrophic.
With a terrifying crack that echoed across the grounds, Coleâs lance struck dead center. Gwayne was violently unseated, flung from his saddle to hit the earth with a sickening crash.
A collective gasp sucked the air from the stands. Through the rising dust, you saw your betrothed lying completely still. Coleâs lance hadnât just brokenâ it had compromised his armor. His steel breastplate was shattered to pieces, the shards visibly lodged into his chest, dark blood already pooling through the fractures.
Your breath hitched, your hand flying to your mouth in horror.
Six years ago, a similar scene had paralyzed your heart the very same way. Blind to the rules of propriety, you bolted from the royal box. Pushing past lords and ladies, you sprinted down into the arenaâdesperate to reach him.
The maesters and several squires had already swarmed him, unbuckling the undamaged pieces of his armor with hurried hands. Gwayne was propped up against a wooden barrier, half-conscious, his head lolling to the side as his eyes struggled to hold focus.
âWill he be alright?â your voice cracked, almost shrill, the composed facade of a princess shattered as you hovered over the maesters working on him. âTell me he will be alright.â
âThe steel hasnât pierced the heart, Princess, but we must move him to immediately to extract the shards,â one of them mumbled, wrapping a temporary cloth around the wound to stem the bleeding.
Gwayne let out a low, guttural groan at the pressure, his eyelids fluttering. Through the haze of pain, he recognized your voice. He knew you were there.
Driven by a sudden, overwhelming surge to comfort him, you dropped to your knees beside him. Your hands were trembling as you reached out, using the hem of your sleeve to wipe away the grime and blood that smeared his pale cheek.
But before your fingers could trace his jawline, Gwayneâs gauntleted hand came up. With a sudden burst of remaining strength, he swatted your hand awayâ
âDo not touch me,â he rasped.
The words were raw and bitter, dripping with an icy venom you had never heard from him before.
. . .
Gwayne refused to meet your gaze. He pressed his eyes shut, his jaw clenched so tightly the bone practically strained against his skin.
It wasnât just the physical agony tearing him apart. It was the suffocating, absolute humiliation.
He had lost. He had been unseated and laid low in the dirt in front of the entire realmâand worse, in front of Criston Cole. He couldnât bear to see the pity in your eyes. He couldnât bear to look at the woman he loved and see confirmation that he was exactly what you always thought of him: unworthy.
âIâmâ fine,â he choked out then. âSo... go back to the Keep.â
It was funny how this was the same thing that had happened to him six years ago, during the Heirâs Tourney. He had been brutally unseated by Daemon Targaryen then, and just like now, you had come running to him, wiping the blood from his broken nose with your kerchief.
He fell in love with you then... and he has been in love with you ever since.
The girl holding his heart was a princess, and he had never dared to hope for more, never dreaming his conniving father would actually arrange your hand for him. He had thought it a blessing.
But his pursuit of you the past three moons had yielded nothing but a bitter truthâ you despised him.
So he preferred to choke on the blinding pain, to let it consume him entirely, rather than suffer the indignity of your comfort.
You are in love with him.
You had spent weeks trying to resent the circumstances that led to your marriage with Otto Hightowerâs son, reminding yourself over and over that he had fractured your family, sowing seeds of rebellion that would break once Alicentâs son came to age, and it would spell disaster upon you allâ
But the wounded knight with broken nose six years ago had long since owned a part of your heart, and one week without Gwayne Hightower persistent on your heel, you had found yourself... sad.
âMrawgh...â
âIâm not lonely,â you mumbled petulantly, brushing a hand against Grey Ghostâs silver scales as the dragon curled up, blinking his golden eyes shut to rest.
To occupy yourself, you spent the days with your dragon in the Dragonpit. Tending to Grey Ghost made the long hours pass fasterâ he was a recluse and not keen on flying often, but his quiet presence matched your somber mood.
Leaving him to his slumber, you walked away lost in your thoughts, entirely failing to notice how slippery the stone ledge had become.
Your foot caught on a heavy iron ring embedded in the floor. The world tilted as you stumbled backwards, losing your footing entirely. You braced for a painful impact against the stone floor, but a pair of strong arms wrapped securely around your waist, arresting your descent.
A sharp, ragged gasp left your saviorâs lips. As you stabilized, you realized your hands had instinctively braced against his chestâpressing right over the bandages of the fresh wound.
âSteady there,â the redhead managed, a strained smile tight on his lips as he gently set you back on your feet. His green tunic made you realize who he wasâ
âGwayne!â you breathed. Your hands hovered over him, trembling, almost terrified to touch him again. âWhy are youâyour wound! I didnât mean toââ
âI am fine, truly,â he assured you, his voice softening as he offered a warm, comforting smile. âIt is but a scratch, Princess. It takes more than a clumsy tumble from you to injure me.â
Just like a hundred times before, Gwayne Hightower sought you out. You could see the sheen of sweat on his forehead and how he looked pale stillâ
From today to the day we breathe our last, all that I am is yours.
âYou are supposed to be resting!â Your voice rose despite yourself. âWhy are you here?!â
This wasnât what you wanted to tell him. You wanted to tell him a lot of other things! Like he was a fool, and that you would forbid him to enter the lists once you two were wed, that you couldnât bear the thought of losing himâ
His blue eyes crinkled with that familiar kindness as he reached out, softly tucking a stray strand of your loose hair behind your ear.
âIf I wasnât here, then you would take a fall.â His voice a soothing balm to your frayed nerves. âI canât very well let my betrothed hurt herself before our big day, can I?â
This was the first time since King Viserys announced your betrothal three moons ago that you looked genuinely worried for him. It made something inside him burst with joy, even if it was tinged with a bitter aftertaste.
Gwayneâs thumb gently brushed across the back of your hand that was still pressed against his chest.
âTell me... Is this the only way I could truly have your attention? Must I be grievously injured, a step away from Deathâs door, for you to look at me like this?â
Your eyes widened by a fraction. Precious, precious girl. He chuckled softly, a teasing glint brightened his eyes.
Just this once, could he be allowed to be just a little bit cruel?
âEven if you keep looking at me with those beautiful eyes...â he whispered, his smile turning a little wistful, â...my heart might just run out, one of these days.â
He gave you one last, kind smileâa look of affection that no longer held expectations, or reeked of the politics that bound your families. Then, he gently gripped your hand, pulling it away from him before turning on his heel to leave you to your own devices.
When your fingers fell limp into the cold air, a stinging realization pierced through you like a dagger:
Is this how he feels? Is this what he endures every time I evade him? How has he survived it over and over?
As his warmth retreated into the shadows of the Dragonpit, something sharp tore deep inside your chest.
You didnât want him to go. The walls you had spent weeks building to protect your heart against the Hightower name crumbled into dust. Your eyes burned with tears that blurred his retreating figure.
He was nearly out of the pit when you gathered your skirts, abandoning your pride, and ran after him.
âSer Gwayne!â
Before he could turn back, you lunged, throwing your pride and your fears to the wind. You crashed into his back, your arms wrapping tightly around his waist, burying your face against his spine. He stiffened, almost flinchingâ
But then he heard you sob.
âPrincess...?â he asked softly. His tone shifted, turning from startled confusion to a protective concern as he carefully turned around within your embrace. He reached up, gently tilting your chin up, only to find your cheeks flushed and wet with tears.
Realizing you were truly, genuinely weeping, Gwayneâs breath hitched in his throat.
He didnât think. He didnât let past rejections dictate him. He immediately wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close against his uninjured side.
âShh, please do not weep,â he said in your ear, his own voice suddenly thick with emotion as he rocked you slightly. âDarling... please.â
Darling. Why did the word sound so devastatingly sweet in your ears? As you clung to him, you realized with absolute certainty that you wanted him to call you that for the rest of your days.
As he held you, feeling the warmth of your hands anchoring yourself to him, the pieces finally fell into place:
Has she... returned my feelings?
When your sobs finally quieted and your breathing turned calmer, you gently pulled back just enough to look up at him. Your eyes met his, and an ache settled in your chest.
He was such a beautiful man. Red hair, blue eyes, with ghost of dimplesâ still the very same wounded knight you had secretly harbored affections for with all those years ago.
Driven by a clear wave of clarity, you didnât wait for him to speak. Reaching up, you stood on your toes and pulled him down by his collarâ
âand pressed your lips to his.
Gwayne went rigid at your sudden boldness. But as your fingers tangled into his soft hair, any lingering shock vanished. With a low groan, he leaned into you, capturing your mouth in a kiss that felt like the bursting of a dam.
He drank in your sighs, his lips moving against yours with a desperate longing, as if he were trying to memorize the taste of you. He pulled you closer, his hands tilting your head back, anchoring you to him.
âYou really areââ he growled against your mouth, his breath hot and ragged, âmy utter undoing, Princess.â
Before the words could even fully register, you gasped as he gathered you up and hoisted you backwards, setting you down onto the broad stone railing.
Gwayne stepped between your thighs, pinning you to the ledge as his mouth descended on yours once more, even more ravenous than before. The kiss became a blur of lips, tongues, and breathless gaspsâ
His hands left your face to map the lines of your body, his palm sliding down the column of your throat to the curve of your shoulders. In his mindâs eye, he was already stripping away the heavy, suffocating layers of your gown, picturing the soft, aching swell of your breasts and the intoxicating dip of your waist.
In less than a week... as soon as you swear your oaths before the Seven, he would be graced by that sight.
Gwayne dragged his lips down from your mouth, leaving a trail of scorching kisses along your jawline before burying his face in the crook of your neck.
âSer Gwayneââ your voice came hitched, and that what brought him back to reality.
He bit softly at the sensitive skin there, swallowing the fire that was about to consume him. When he finally pulled away to breathe, his lips lingered against yours.
âWell, you did kiss me first, Princess,â Gwayne murmured, his eyes twinkling, voice delightfully raspy as his arms settled loosely around your waist. âIf I had known a broken rib would finally get you to kiss me, I would have marched up to Grey Ghost and asked him to toss me by the tail weeks ago.â
âPlease donât,â you giggled, circling your arms around his neck.
âAh, but think of the romanceâ a dashing knight, battered and bruised, crawling back from the Dragonpit just to collapse into his brideâs arms.â
A breathless laugh escaped your lips, giving way to a very sweet, genuine smile. To Gwayne Hightower, this was the prettiest you had ever been, and his heart throbbed.
Oh, so she does, he realized, a quiet reverence settling into his soul. She does return my affections.
Gwayne leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, finally certain that his heart was safe in your hands.
âYou might not know it,â he whispered, âbut I have been in love with you for a very long time.â
You looked up at him, your eyes bright with unshed tears, and he met your gaze with a look of such devotion it stole the breath from your lungs.
âSo let me say this once again. From before, now and until the day we breathe our last, all that I am... is yours.â
In that moment, you couldnât have known that the realm would soon be plunged into a senseless civil war, pitting your sister against his in a dance of dragons and blood. You couldnât have foreseen the ashes, the betrayals, or the heavy price the Hightower green and the Targaryen black would have to pay.
None of that matters right now. All you wanted was to lose yourself in his embrace and savor the fragile perfection of your wedding to the man of your dreams... for as long as it would last.

The Dragon Who Bent | Aerion Targaryen (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/story/409583154-the-dragon-who-bent-aerion-targaryen?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_myworks&wp_uname=ilikeme1234Â
Aerion Targaryen was never meant to bend for anyone. Proud, sharp tongued, and feared by most of the court, he gives the world nothing but steel and dragonfire. But for Daenys Baelor's daughter, Valarr's twin, and the girl with brown hair streaked with silver he is hopelessly, dangerously devoted.Â
From childhood to betrothal to marriage, The Dragon Who Bent follows the story of a prince who says no to everyone except the woman he loves. He would give her anything she asked for, panic at her tears, carry her when she's tired, and burn with jealousy whenever the world looks at her too long.Â
A romantic series full of obsession, tenderness, possessive devotion, and the one woman who could make a dragon prince kneel. "You are my wife," he said. "If something upsets you, then by definition it is not a little thing."

The Dragon Who Bent | Aerion Targaryen x Cousin Wife (Valarr fem twin) reader | Chapter 10
Chapter 9
Aerion woke to weight.
Not the comfortable, ordinary weight of blankets and warmth and the dull press of sleep still clinging to his bones.
A living weight.
Daenys had wrapped herself around him sometime in the night like a vine that had decided it preferred princes to trellises. One leg thrown shamelessly over his hips, her face tucked against his throat, one arm locked around his middle with the stubborn conviction of someone determined to keep what was hers.
Her hair lay everywhere, brown silk across his chest and shoulder, with that single bright streak of silver at her temple catching the faintest early light. Her breathing was slow and soft, warm against his skin.
Aerion lay very still.
He had learned through hard experience that if he moved too quickly while Daenys was in this state she would wake half asleep and unreasonable and then he would never leave the bed again.
Part of him the worst part thought it might be worth it.
Dawn had come anyway. Duty had come. Court would come with its endless petitions and its endless men who thought their voices mattered. His father had made it plain the day before that Aerion was expected in the yard after court, and Aerion had made the mistake of agreeing, as if the realm had ever been allowed to matter more than the girl curled against his throat.
He stared at the ceiling for a long moment and tried to become a man who could stand up.
Daenys sighed in her sleep and tightened her hold like she could sense betrayal through dream. Her leg hooked more firmly over his waist. Her hand, resting over his heart, pressed there once as if to remind it of its proper allegiance.
Aerion's chest went tight.
"My heart" he whispered, though she did not hear him.
His fingers slid up the length of her spine, slow and careful, smoothing as if he could soothe her even while plotting his escape. He kissed her hair just beside the silver streak and closed his eyes for one selfish breath.
She made a tiny contented sound.
It ruined him.
He tried anyway.
He shifted only the smallest amount, barely a change in the angle of his shoulder, barely a breath.
Daenys woke instantly.
Not fully. Not sharply. Just enough for her lashes to flutter and for her mouth to find his skin, as if she needed proof he was still there.
"Aerion" she mumbled, voice thick with sleep.
"I am here."
Her eyes opened halfway. Brown and unfocused, drowsy and soft. She stared at him like she was trying to remember what year it was and whether the world was worth acknowledging.
Then her gaze drifted downward.
To his chest. To the way his arm was under her. To the fact, obvious now, that he was awake.
And therefore, in her mind, capable of leaving.
Her brows drew together in slow horror.
"No" she said.
Aerion did not answer at first because there was nothing safe to say. He only brushed his thumb over her cheekbone, gentle like she was something breakable and holy.
"Yes" he said finally, very softly. "I have to get up."
Daenys blinked once.
Then, with the solemnity of someone delivering a sentence, she tightened her arm around him and pulled herself closer.
"No" she said again, louder this time, as if volume could alter the laws of time itself.
Aerion's lips twitched.
"You cannot simply say no to time," he murmured.
Daenys yawned directly into his throat and without lifting her head said, "Watch me."
She pressed her face deeper into him, as if refusing to look at the world might prevent it from existing. Her leg tightened around his waist. Her fingers, warm and sleepy, curled into the fabric of his shirt like she meant to anchor him to the mattress by force of will.
Aerion stared down at her.
He could feel her heartbeat through her tight embrace.Slow. Confident. Certain she would win.
Gods.
This was what the realm wanted him to leave.
He bent his head and kissed the top of hers then lingered there breathing her in. When he pulled back she still had not moved. Her eyes were shut again. Her mouth softened against his skin.
As if she could simply go back to sleep and wake up in a world where Aerion did not have duties.
"My sweet girl" he whispered.
Daenys made a sound that might have been agreement or might have been a threat.
Aerion tried a different approach.
He slid his hand under her hair and gently scratched at the back of her head, the way he had discovered by accident made her melt completely. Her shoulders loosened at once.
"Mmm" she hummed, content.
"You are very clingy this morning."
"I am your wife," she mumbled, as if this explained everything in the world.
"It does" Aerion admitted, and it was the worst part, because it truly did.
His fingers stilled in her hair. He swallowed once and said carefully, "I have court."
Daenys did not open her eyes. "Tell them to leave."
"I cannot."
"Yes you can."
"I am a prince."
"You are my husband," Daenys said, voice still thick and slow.
Then she shifted her face slightly and kissed his collarbone, one soft sleepy press of her mouth, thoughtless as breathing.
Aerion stopped breathing.
It was not seduction. It was not even intention. It was simply Daenys half asleep being affectionate because she loved him and because she had never once in her life considered that Aerion might survive such things.
That made it worse.
Aerion's hand tightened at her waist, not painful, only helpless.
"You are trying to ruin me before sunrise" he said, hoarse.
Daenys's lips curved faintly against his skin. "Good."
Aerion let out a slow breath that trembled at the end.
He should not have been smiling.
He was.
"Look at me," he murmured.
Daenys shook her head without lifting it. "No."
"Daenys."
"No."
He slid two fingers under her chin and coaxed her face up. It took almost no effort. She yielded to his touch the way she always did when she wanted him to think he was in control.
Her eyes opened again heavy lidded and sweet.
And then, because the gods were cruel and because she was Daenys her lower lip pushed out.
Not much.
Just enough.
Aerion felt his heart cave in.
"Oh" he breathed, as if wounded.
Daenys stared at him with the faintest shimmer of moisture gathering at the corners of her eyes. "Do not go."
Aerion's throat tightened so suddenly it startled him. He lifted his hand to her face, thumb brushing under her eye as if he could smooth the wetness away before it dared fall.
"You are not crying," he said, offended on her behalf.
"I am not," Daenys whispered.
"You are thinking about it."
Her mouth wobbled.
Aerion's eyes closed. "Sweetheart."
"I woke up and you were awake thinking of leaving me," she said, as if this were the deepest betrayal imaginable. "That is unkind."
"I did not mean to," Aerion said helplessly. "My heart, I did not mean to."
Daenys huffed a tiny laugh that turned into something suspiciously close to a sniff.
Aerion's chest ached.
He leaned down and kissed the corner of her mouth, soft and slow, because he did not know how else to fix her. Daenys sighed into it, her hand sliding up to cup the side of his neck, keeping him close with sleepy grabby insistence.
When he pulled back she chased him by a fraction, lips parting like she meant to steal another kiss by force.
Aerion stared at her like a man watching himself drown.
"I will come back" he said again, trying to make the promise sound like law.
Daenys blinked. "Soon."
"As soon as I can."
She searched his face, still half asleep but sharp enough to know when he was lying.
Aerion added quickly, "I will make them move quicker."
Daenys's brows knit. "You cannot hurry old men."
"I can frighten them," Aerion said with absolute conviction.
That got a small smile from her. Sleepy, reluctant, precious.
Aerion seized on it like a lifeline.
"There" he murmured. "That smile is my permission to stand."
Daenys's smile vanished instantly. "No it is not."
Aerion laughed under his breath and pressed his forehead to hers.
"My heart" he whispered, "if I stay, my father will peel my skin off."
Daenys's nose wrinkled. "My uncle would not."
"He would" Aerion said grimly. "He has the look of a man who has imagined it."
Daenys's mouth twitched despite herself.
Then her arms tightened again, stubborn. "Five more minutes."
Aerion's entire body softened.
"Daenys."
"Five," she repeated, voice firm in that adorable sleepy way of hers. "Or I will be difficult all day."
Aerion stared at her.
He knew with perfect clarity that this was blackmail.
He also knew he would pay it.
He kissed her forehead slow and reverent. "Five."
Daenys exhaled like she had won a war and immediately let her eyes close again settling against him with profound satisfaction.
Aerion held her unmoving for the promised minutes.
He watched the slow rise and fall of her breath. He traced the silver streak at her temple with his thumb once lightly like a private prayer. He let himself memorize the softness of her mouth, the warmth of her skin the way her hand rested over his heart as if claiming it.
It was ridiculous that he still needed reminders.
He needed them anyway.
When five minutes passed far too quickly Aerion tried again.
He shifted his hips slightly preparing to slide out from under her.
Daenys's arm tightened like a trap.
His head fell back against the pillow.
"Daenys" he said laughter and despair tangled in one breath. "My Sweet Sweet girl."
"Mmm?"
"I cannot leave if you are physically restraining me."
"Yes you can" she mumbled, eyes still closed. "You are strong."
"That is not the point."
"It is exactly the point," she said sleepily.
Then without opening her eyes, she kissed his throat again and whispered "Stay."
Aerion went utterly still.
His whole body stopped as if her mouth had pressed a seal into his skin.
Then his voice came out low and wrecked. "You are going to kill me."
Daenys smiled, barely there, and finally opened one eye.
"Later," she murmured. "Not yet."
Aerion stared at her.
He should have stood. He should have escaped. He should have remembered he was a prince and not a foolish man being undone by a sleepy girl clinging to him.
Instead he tightened his arm around her and kissed her gently.
"Alright," he whispered. "Two more minutes."
Daenys sighed victorious and curled into him as if she had always belonged there.
Aerion closed his eyes.
For two minutes he let himself pretend he had no duties, no court, no father waiting to scowl him into obedience. Only Daenys warm and heavy against him a leg around his waist, a hand over his heart her mouth soft against his throat like she was marking him as hers one kiss at a time.
Then because the gods had never once allowed him peace for long, those two minutes ended too.
Aerion drew a breath and gathered what was left of his will.
"My heart" he murmured.
Daenys hummed sleepily, already drifting again.
"I am going to stand" he said. "If you hold me, you will be stealing a prince from the realm."
Daenys did not open her eyes. "Let them suffer."
Aerion laughed softly, helpless. He pressed one more kiss into her hair.
"You are cruel" he whispered.
"I am loved" she murmured.
That landed so softly and so surely that Aerion's chest tightened.
He kissed her temple right by the silver streak and whispered back like a vow. "Yes."
Then he did the only thing he had any hope of doing without waking her fully into protest.
He shifted carefully and slid his arm out from under her, slow as a man disarming a trap. Daenys made a small displeased sound and tightened her hold at once, leg clamping more firmly, hand fisting in his shirt.
Aerion froze again.
He waited.
Daenys did not loosen.
Aerion bent and murmured into her hair, softer than court would ever hear him speak, "Sweet girl, please."
Daenys's eyes cracked open.
She blinked at him, still hazy with sleep, mouth in a pout.
Aerion looked at that pout and felt his soul leave his body.
He kissed it.
Just a soft press at the corner of her mouth.
Daenys sighed.
Aerion took advantage of the sigh like a criminal.
He slid out from under her at last and stood.
Daenys immediately made a plaintive noise and reached for him with grabby hands, fingers catching his sleeve.
Aerion's heart lurched.
He turned back at once, because he always turned back.
"Daenys."
She sat up a little, hair falling forward. "Do not go."
"I have to," he whispered. His hand went to her cheek again, thumb stroking gently. "But I will come back. I promise."
Daenys stared at him still offended still sleepy still entirely too capable of undoing him with nothing but her eyes.
Then she said quietly, "If you leave me bored I will become a menace."
Aerion's mouth twitched.
"You are always a menace."
Daenys's eyes narrowed. "An unattended menace."
Aerion sighed like a man facing the inevitable.
"What do you want," he asked.
Daenys blinked slowly thinking hard in the way only half asleep people did.
"Bring me back something" she said at last.
Aerion softened instantly, relief and devotion flooding him so fast it was embarrassing.
"What" he murmured.
Daenys's lip pushed out again, smaller this time. "Something that proves you remembered me."
Aerion stared at her.
Then he bent close kissed her forehead and whispered "I never forget you."
Daenys's eyes fluttered.
Aerion kissed her again, slower, and felt her relax.
"I will bring you something," he promised. "A ribbon, a sweet, a book, a dragon egg if you ask it."
Daenys smiled, faint and satisfied.
"Now" Aerion said, because he had to make this a bargain or he would never leave, "you will stay in this bed for a little longer. You will rest."
Daenys opened her mouth.
Aerion kissed her quickly, stealing the argument.
When he drew back he said, very softly, "Be sweet for me."
Daenys blinked at him, then nodded the smallest amount, like granting a favor.
Aerion exhaled, victorious.
He stood again, backed away as if she might lunge, and reached the door.
Behind him, Daenys called, voice still thick with sleep but carrying clear warning "Aerion."
He paused, hand on the latch.
"Yes my heart."
"If you are late" Daenys said, sweetly, "I will terrorize your brothers."
Aerion closed his eyes.
"Do not" he said, already knowing she would.
Daenys smiled into her pillow. "Go"
Aerion left.
And as the door shut, Daenys's quiet little laugh followed him down the corridor like a prophecy, warm and dangerous at once.
Aerion walked faster.
Not because he feared his father.
Because he knew, with absolute certainty, what happened to the Red Keep when Daenys was bored and unattended.
And because no one in the Seven Kingdoms, not king or septon or knight, could handle his wife quite as well as he could.
Certainly not his brothers.

The Dragon Who Bent | Aerion Targaryen x Cousin Wife (Valarr fem twin) reader | Chapter 9
Chapter 8
The first thing people saw when they looked up at the high dais was King Daeron II Targaryen on the Iron Throne, with his queen beside him.
The second was that almost no one else on the dais behaved as though they were particularly impressed by thrones at all.
On court days the royal family sat flanking the Iron Throne in a long, gleaming line. To the king's right, a step below, sat Baelor Breakspear, grave and calm, the king's heir. Next to him sat Valarr, neat and princely, the picture of composed expectation.
On the queen's other side sat Maekar, solid and stony faced. Beside him lounged his eldest son Daeron, half turned in his chair with habitual indolence. Next to Daeron was an empty seat, its carved arms waiting.
And then came Aerion.
He sat straight, all edges and restrained energy, black and red catching torchlight, silver hair pulled back, one hand resting easy on the arm of his chair. To the hall below, he looked exactly as a Targaryen prince ought to look cold, dangerous, and very far away.
To Daenys, he looked like a very handsome toy being wasted on politics.
Her own chair was right beside his, because they were married and the keep had learned that placing her any farther away only resulted in her moving herself. Baelor's daughter. Valarr's twin. Brown hair braided and pinned, one clean streak of silver bright near her temple, spine straight, hands folded.
She looked perfectly proper.
For the first five minutes.
A minor lord from the riverlands was standing before the throne, explaining in excruciating detail why his neighbor's cows represented an intolerable threat to his honor. Daenys tuned him out almost immediately.
Her focus, as ever, drifted sideways.
Aerion was watching the petitioner, his profile severe. Jaw set, mouth firm, fingers still. The rings on his hand glinted as he flexed them once.
She stared at those fingers.
"Aerion," she whispered.
He did not look at her, but the corner of his mouth eased. "Yes my heart"
"I am bored."
"I know."
"Entertain me."
"I am governing."
"You are glaring at a cow story," she corrected softly. "That is not the same."
He very nearly smiled. "What would you have me do, little menace."
She brightened faintly at the indulgent tone. Her gaze slid back to his hand.
Two rings.
One signet.
One slender band.
One opportunity.
Her hand crept over and brushed his, first as if by accident, then with clear intent. She turned the narrower ring with her thumb. Slowly. Testing.
He let her.
"Daenys," he murmured.
"Yes."
"Do not."
"I am doing nothing."
"You are thinking."
"I always think."
"In this case, stop."
She did not.
With one deft twist she slipped the ring off his finger and onto hers.
It looked ridiculous too large, loose on her hand. She held it up anyway, tilting her wrist so the light caught it.
"How does it look," she asked.
He should have said foolish.
Instead he stared at her hand as if she had just put part of his soul on.
"It suits you," he said.
Daeron, on Aerion's other side, made a strangled sound and clapped a hand over his mouth. "He is finished" he muttered. "Utterly."
"Be quiet," Aerion replied, still looking at Daenys like the ring were exactly where it belonged.
Below, the lord reached the part of his complaint that actually required an opinion. Aerion tore his attention away long enough to answer coolly, question, measure, offer a solution, his voice flat and efficient.
Then Daenys's fingers returned.
This time she played with his hand itself. Straightening each finger. Smoothing the knuckles. Tracing idle loops over the palm with a gloved fingertip. Her touch was light and absent-minded, like a child doodling in the margins of a page.
From anyone else, it would have been maddening. From her, it was simply how she occupied herself. And how she reminded him, wordlessly, that he was not only made for swords and signatures.
He let her.
Her mischief, however, had only begun.
As yet another petitioner came forward this one droning on about tariffs from the Vale Daenys's attention floated higher.
Toward his hair.
It had been tied back neatly at the nape of his neck for court, but a single pale strand had come loose near his ear.
She stared at it.
She stared at Aerion.
She stared at it again.
"Aerion," she whispered.
He did not look at her. "No My heart"
"You do not know what I was going to say."
"Yes, I do."
"You are not that clever."
"Yes, I am."
Her fingers were already reaching up.
She smoothed the stray lock back with exaggerated care. Then twisted it once, twice, into a tiny coil and held it against his temple, as if testing the idea.
He turned his head slightly, eyes cutting toward her. "What are you doing."
"Improving you."
"This is court."
"Yes."
"Not a dressing table."
"Why should you not have both," she mused.
Before he could decide whether throwing her off the bench would be worth the trouble, she plucked a slim silver pin from one of the braids above her own temple, where the silver streak ran.
In one swift, decisive movement, she pinned his little coil of hair into place.
Aerion froze.
He could feel the light weight of it there. Her pin. Her piece. Holding his hair where she wanted it, above his cheekbone.
Daeron made an unholy noise behind his fingers. "We are truly living through an age of wonders."
Valarr, from across the throne, did not even bother hiding his sigh. "You are both children," he said across the gap.
"You say that," Daeron murmured, "but does anyone decorate your hair, Valarr?"
Valarr looked as though he would happily accept exile to avoid this conversation.
Aerion lifted his hand and touched the pinned strand.
Something in his chest, some hard, clenched thing, melted.
"Handsome," Daenys said quietly, watching him.
"Do you like it," she added, softer.
He looked at her.
At the silver pin that was hers, now sitting in his hair.
"Yes," he said. Truth, simple and stupid and far too easy. "I do."
Her whole face lit.
On the throne, King Daeron cleared his throat, amusement clear in his voice. "Does my grand son intend to hear this man's plea," the king said loud enough for the hall, "or is he too occupied with his wife's improvements to his person."
Laughter rippled below.
Aerion didn't flinch. "The petitioner, Your Grace," he answered.
"We shall hope so," the king replied.
Daenys hid her smile behind her hand.
Court crawled on.
By the time the chamberlain had called the sixth supplicant of the day, Aerion's hand was missing one ring and the lock of his hair was neatly, ridiculously pinned with a bit of Daenys his fingers had become her personal puzzle, turned and curled and pressed absentmindedly whenever the talk grew too dull.
He did nothing to stop her.
He only watched her with the steady, embarrassingly soft gaze of a man who would happily let her write her name on him in ink, if she ever thought to ask.
And then came the envoy from the Vale.
His voice was somehow both thin and droning. Even Baelor, master of patience, went a shade blank around the eyes.
Aerion's attention slipped.
His gaze drifted to the pillars. To the banners. To the door. To anything, anywhere, that was not this man's complaints about grain and narrow passes.
His hand slackened around Daenys's.
For three heartbeats, she endured it.
On the fourth, she made a decision.
Daenys quietly slid her hand from his, rose, arranged her skirts, and stepped past Aerion's knees to the empty chair between him and Daeron.
"Daenys," Aerion said low.
She pretended not to hear.
She sat down beside Daeron with a prim little sigh, folding her hands neatly in her lap.
Daeron's grin was sinful. "Have you abandoned him."
"He abandoned me first," she said. "He has fallen in love with the sound of that man's own voice."
Daeron glanced around her at Aerion. "That is a betrayal, truly."
"It is tragic."
"It is an opportunity."
She blinked. "For what."
"For me to be your favorite," he whispered.
She scoffed. "Cousin you are funnier, not prettier."
"I will take what I can get."
She laughed.
Her hand drifted toward his sleeve.
Daeron went very still. "What are you doing."
"Seeing if your rings are as nice as your brother's."
"nuh nuh I like my fingers," Daeron said. "I would prefer to keep them attached."
"He lets me steal his."
"Yes" Daeron said, "and he is a lost cause. I am not yet so far gone."
She rolled her eyes and flicked lightly at his wrist. "Coward."
Aerion watched all of this from his seat like a man watching a fire catch on very old wood.
He heard none of the Vale envoy's words now.
He only heard Daenys's quick laugh at something Daeron muttered. Saw the way she leaned, shoulder bumping Daeron's arm. Watched her reach for his brother's sleeve again, fingers now determined.
"Do not encourage her," Aerion said, half under his breath.
Daeron's eyes sparkled. "Why ever not?"
Daenys gripped Daeron's wrist. "Hold still."
"I will not survive this," he whispered.
The envoy droned on.
Daenys found the buttons at Daeron's cuff and began fastening and unfastening them purely to annoy him. He tried to tug away she clung harder.
"Little menace," Daeron hissed. "He is going to see."
"That is the point," she replied.
Down the bench, Aerion rose.
It was not a violent motion, but it had impact. The bench creaked faintly under his weight. Several faces below turned up with immediate interest. King Daeron's brow arched a fraction.
Aerion stepped two paces.
Enough to stand over the empty chair and the one Daenys now occupied between him and his brother.
He held out his hand. "Wife."
She looked up, perfectly unrepentant. "Husband."
"Come back."
"I am here."
"Here," he said, "is not there."
"You were not looking at there."
His jaw flexed.
Daeron leaned back, only somewhat shielded by her small frame. "She has a point."
"You," Aerion informed his brother, "are not helping."
"I am a victim in this."
"You are smiling."
"I suffer beautifully."
Daenys tugged at Daeron's sleeve again. "Let me see your ring."
"No."
"Aerion lets me."
"Aerion is out of his mind," Daeron hissed. "He has been for years."
Aerion had had enough.
He reached down, took Daenys neatly by the waist, and lifted her.
The hall gasped as Baelor's daughter and Aerion's wife was unceremoniously relocated from her stolen seat back to the one beside her husband in full view of the crownlands.
She gave a startled squeak of laughter, clutching at his shoulder, then landed in her proper chair with wide eyes and pink cheeks.
"Aerion!" she whispered.
"Yes."
"You cannot just... move me. In front of everyone."
"Yes, I can."
"That is mortifying."
"For you," Daeron called lightly. "For the rest of us, it is a rare and blessed performance."
"Hush," Aerion said without looking at him.
He turned fully toward Daenys.
"You went to my brother," he said quietly, voice low enough not to carry, "while I was one seats away."
"You were not seat away," she protested. "You were three worlds away, talking to yourself about ledgers in your head."
"That is too poetic for me to object to," he said. "But I still dislike it."
She tried not to smile.
"I like when you look at me" she said, simply, almost shyly for all her mischief.
That demolished him more effectively than any arrow.
He drew a breath, used it to say, "I am looking now."
"Good," she said.
Her hand found his again without thinking. Fingers twined. Thumb resumed its slow, soothing stroke over his knuckles.
He let her take what she wanted.
He always would.
Behind her back, Daeron leaned forward, voice pitched low. "She is right" he said. "You disappear into your temper. Someone must keep you human."
Aerion did not deny it.
His eyes were on Daenys, on the pin in his hair that had been hers, on the ring loose on her hand that had been his, on the way she clearly did not even realize she was still touching his sleeve as if to make sure he stayed.
"Are you content," he asked her.
"Yes."
"You will stay."
"Yes."
"With me."
She smiled, softer now. "Yes."
Below, the petitioner from the Vale continued to mindlessly beat a corpse of an argument.
On the high bench, Prince Aerion Targaryen sat with his cousin wife tucked at his side, wearing her pin in his hair and his ring on her finger, her hands all over his as if she had ever had any doubt to whom they belonged.
Dangerous, they called him.
Cruel.
Dragon hearted.
Maybe.
But anyone truly watching the dais that day saw only a man quietly revolving around the girl beside him, hand in hers, as if the rest of the hall were nothing but an unpleasant noise between one heartbeat and the next.
And the moment she wandered even a little toward his brother for mischief, he rose like a long suffering parent and brought her straight back.
Where she belonged.
Right there.
Next to him.

What about doing a Valarr x cousin wife reader where she was also at the puppet show and got there right before dunk shows up and tries to stop Aerion. Aerion slaps her when she goes to get him to let go of Tanselleâs fingers and falls to the ground from the force of the slap. Dunk shows up at this exact time and everything happens as canon but before they all leave to the castle, reader gets up and punches Aerion so hard it breaks his nose. So when theyâre all in the solar discussing what happened, Valarr and reader are there too and no trial of the seven happens because reader and Valarr use the fact that Aegon told Duncan to stop Aerion as an order from a prince so dunk essentially had permission to hit Aerion especially in defense of reader. I would also love to see Maekar freaking out over his precious daughter (because heâs such a girl dad) being cut/bruised from the slap and Aerion gets punished from their father
The Dragonâs Justice : A Bloodied Nose and a Fatherâs Fury
The puppet show was a blur of colorful wood and laughter until Aerion arrived. Your brother was in the throes of one of his dragon dreams, seeing treason in the simple movements of marionettes.
"Aerion, stop!" You rushed forward, your heart leaping into your throat. He had the puppeteer girl, Tanselle, by the hand, his fingers twisting with a cruel, rhythmic pressure.
"She must be taught, sister !" Aerion cried, his eyes wild and unseeing.
"Youâre hurting her! Let her go!" You reached out, grabbing his shoulder to yank him back.
In his manic state, Aerion reacted with a blind, panicked violence. He felt a hand seize him and swung around with a heavy, backhanded lash. He didn't see it was you until the moment his hand connected with your cheek.
The force was staggering. You hit the grass hard, the world spinning in shades of red and violet.
"Y/N!" A voice screamed. It was Aerion. The horror on his face was instantaneous as he realized what he'd done. "No, I..."
But he was cut off as a mountain of a man slammed into him. Duncan the Tall had arrived, tackling the Prince to the ground to save the puppeteer.
Through the ringing in your ears, a shadow blocked out the sun. Valarr was there, but the usually composed Golden Prince looked as though he were coming apart at the seams. He didn't just kneel he hit the ground with a frantic desperation, his hands hovering over you as if he were afraid you might shatter.
"My love, my life, look at me!" he choked out, his voice cracking with a raw terror that silenced the surrounding crowd. His fingers were trembling so violently he could barely tuck a loose lock of hair behind your ear. When he saw the dark bruise blooming across your skin, he made a small, broken sound in his throat.
Valarr didn't wait for you to stand. He slid one arm beneath your knees and the other behind your back, hoisting you against his chest with a strength born of pure adrenaline. He held you as if you were the most fragile, precious thing in all of Westeros, pulling you into the cradle of his lap while he remained on the grass. He tucked your head beneath his chin, his heart hammering like a trapped bird against your ear.
"I've got you," he whispered, his breath hitching as he rocked you back and forth. "I've got you, sweetheart. I'm right here."
"I'm fine, Valarr" you hissed, the shock turning into a cold, sharp rage.
The guards were pulling the hedge knight off Aerion. Your brother stood up, shaking off the dirt and trying to regain his princely composure, though his eyes kept darting to you in guilt stricken fear.
As the guards prepared to lead everyone toward the castle, you pushed against Valarrâs chest. He didn't want to let go, his arms tightening instinctively to keep you shielded, but the fire in your eyes told him you weren't finished and you break free from his tightened hold.
You marched straight up to Aerion. He opened his mouth a frantic apology on his lips. "Y/N I didn't see you, I swear..."
You didn't let him finish. You put every ounce of your fury into a closed fist punch. Your knuckles connected with the bridge of his nose with a loud, sickening crunch.
Aerion shrieked, collapsing into the dirt and clutching his face as blood gushed between his fingers.
"Don't you ever lay a hand on me again," you spat, your chest heaving.
The Solar
The tension in the solar was thick enough to choke on. Aerion sat in the corner a maester desperately trying to set his mangled nose while Maekar stood by the window like a brewing storm.
Valarr refused to let you sit on a separate chair. He sat on the wide bench and pulled you directly onto his lap his arms winding around your waist like iron bands. He seemed obsessed with your proximit, burying his face in the crook of your neck every few moments as if to ground himself.
"He attacked a Prince of the Blood !" Aerion muffled through the bandages his voice high and pathetic. "The knight struck me! And then she... Father, look at my face! I demand a trial! I want that knight DEAD !"
Maekar finally turned. He ignored Aerion entirely, walking straight to where you sat in Valarrâs protective embrace. Maekar was a man of iron, but as he reached you his expression softened into something pained. He cupped your face, his thumb brushing over the bruise.
"My girl, My darling girl" he whispered, his voice thick with the protective rage of a father. "He struck you."
"It was an accident Father," you said firmly, "but a consequence of his own madness."
"There will be no trial, Aerion," Valarr interrupted, his voice ringing with absolute authority. He didn't move an inch, keeping you tucked securely against his chest. "The knight did not attack you. He was following an order."
Baelor Breakspear looked up. "An order?"
"Aegon," Valarr called out. The young boy Egg, stepped forward from the corner.
"I told the knight to stop him" Egg said clearly, looking at his father. "I gave the command. He was acting as a protector of the realm under the order of a Prince."
Valarr looked at Maekar. "The knight acted to defend your daughter, the Princess, and he did so with Aegon's permission. Duncan the Tall is not a criminal he was the only one in that meadow acting with the honor of a Kingâs Guard."
Maekar looked at his youngest son, then at you, then at the sniveling, bloodied mess that was Aerion.
"You have shamed this house for the last time" Maekar growled at Aerion. "You struck your sister and terrorized a child. There will be no trial. You will stay in your quarters until I decide where in the world to send you so I never have to look at your failure again."
"But my nose..."
"Get out!" Maekar roared.
As the room cleared Maekar lingered pressing a rare heavy kiss to your brow. "Good punch, daughter. You have a better aim than your brothers."
Later in the quiet of your bedchamber Valarrâs composure finally evaporated completely. The moment the door was bolted he swept you up into his arms again carrying you to the oversized chair by the fire. He sat down and settled you across his thighs, his hands moving over your arms and shoulders as if he were still checking for injuries he might have missed.
"I thought I lost you" he whispered, his voice trembling as he pressed his forehead against yours. "When you fell the world went dark. I couldn't breathe, My love."
He was completely focused on you, his thumb tracing the curve of your lip with a worshipful touch. He spent the rest of the night refusing to let you set foot on the ground carrying you to the window to watch the stars and then back to the warmth of the fire. He brought you chilled wine and fed you bits of sweet bread, his eyes never leaving yours for more than a second.
"You're quite terrifying when you're angry, you know," he murmured against your skin, a soft, swoonworthy smile finally breaking through his worry. He leaned down pressing a lingering tender kiss to the unbruised side of your jaw. "Iâll have to make sure I stay on your good side, my heart."
"Just keep the honeyed cakes coming, My sweet prince" you teased, leaning back into his warmth and letting his steady heartbeat soothe the last of your anger. "And weâll be just fine."

And maybe a pregnant reader x valarr fanfic where he literally has her supported against his body while she gives birth to twins and it is a difficult birth with lots of angst but hopefully a happy ending
The room was too warm. Too bright. Too full of voices that kept saying the same words as if repetition could make the pain smaller.
Breathe. Again. Just like that.
You could not remember when it had started feeling like this, only that it did not stop. The sheets beneath you were damp with sweat, your hair stuck to your temples, and your body was trembling with the kind of exhaustion that turned time into something thick and cruel.
Valarr was behind you on the bed, braced like a shield, your back supported against his chest. His arms were under yours, locked tight enough to hold you up when you could not do it yourself. He had been there for hours. He had not moved. Not once, not really.
âLook at meâ he whispered, voice breaking on the edges in a way you had never heard from him in all your marriage. âPlease.... Just look at me.â
You turned your head and found him close, close, close. His face was pale, lashes wet, jaw clenched so hard you thought he might shatter a tooth. His forehead pressed to your temple as if he could anchor you to the world by touch alone.
âI have you,â he breathed. âI have you. Youâre safe. Youâre doing so well. Youâre⌠gods, youâre so brave.â
A contraction grabbed you again, sharp enough to steal the air from your lungs. You made a sound you did not recognize as your own.
Valarrâs arms tightened instantly. He kissed the side of your head, over and over, messy with desperation.
âIâm here,â he said. âIâm right here. Crush my hands if you need to. Hurt me. I donât care. Just stay with me.â
The midwifeâs voice cut through the haze. âNow, my princess. Now. Push. All of it.â
You tried. You did. Your body bore down and shook, and Valarr held you upright when everything inside you felt like it was coming apart.
âThatâs it,â he choked, lips at your ear. âThatâs it, my love. Give them to me. Give them to me and Iâll spend the rest of my life making sure you never suffer alone again.â
âYouâre crowning,â the midwife announced. âOne more, girl. One more.â
Valarrâs breath hitched. His hands were trembling where they clasped yours. âI love you,â he said, like a confession ripped out of him. âI love you so much it frightens me.â
You pushed.
For a moment there was only heat and pressure and the terrible stretch of it and then a sudden shocking release.
A wet new sound filled the room.
A cry
Thin at first then angry then strong enough to make the candle flames seem to jump with it.
The midwife lifted your baby up, red faced and perfect and wailing like they had been insulted by being born. âA princeâ she said brisk and proud.
Valarr made a broken noise. Something between a sob and a laugh. He reached as if to take the baby, then caught himself hands hovering helpless because he could not decide which of you to hold first.
He chose you.
He pressed his face to your hair. âYou did it,â he whispered. âYou did it. Iâm so proud of you. Iâm so...â
The maesterâs voice, tight. âThereâs another.â
The relief that had flooded you ripped away so fast it made you dizzy.
Yes. Another. You had known. You had known for months, felt two separate flutters beneath your ribs, listened while everyone spoke softly of risk and blood and difficult births as if gentleness could tame the truth.
But hearing it now, in this room, with your strength draining away, was terror made real.
The midwifeâs hands moved again. The maester leaned in, eyes sharp. âThe second is not coming as easily.â
Valarr went rigid behind you. You felt it, the instant his fear turned into something fierce enough to burn.
âWhat do you meanâ he demanded, voice low, dangerous in a way that would have frozen knights.
The maester did not look up. âI mean she must push and she must do it soon.â
You tried to gather yourself. Your body felt empty and still full. Shaking and heavy. Every breath scraped.
Valarr slid one hand to your belly, gentle as prayer, then to your throat, thumb brushing your pulse like he was checking you were still here.
âSweetheart,â he said, softer now, right into your skin. âListen to me. Dont leave me. Dont you dare leave me.â
You turned your head, barely able to focus. âValarrâŚâ
His eyes were shining, furious with love. âI need you. The children need you. I can be brave for war, for court, for my father and the realm and all of it, but I cannotâŚâ His voice cracked. âNot this. Not without you.â
Another contraction hit, uglier than before.
You cried out and his arms tightened around your ribs, holding you up, holding you together. He kissed your cheek, your temple, your jaw, like he was trying to press you back into the world.
âThatâs itâ he murmured. âThatâs my love. Thatâs my heart. Breathe with me. Breathe. Good. Good.â
The midwifeâs voice turned urgent. âPush, my princess. Push hard.â
You pushed. Your vision sparkled at the edges. The room tilted.
Valarrâs voice stayed steady even when his hands were not. âLook at me. Just look at me. Youâre not alone. Youâre not alone. Iâm right here.â
You pushed again.
The midwife swore under her breath. The maester said something you did not catch. You felt panic rise, hot and choking.
Valarr pressed his mouth to your ear. âYou can do this,â he said, fierce and pleading at once. âYou can. I know you can. Youâve already done the impossible. Do it again, love. Do it again and I will never ask the gods for anything ever again.â
You dragged in a breath and pushed until your whole body shook with it.
For a heartbeat nothing happened.
Then the pressure shifted. Moved. Gave.
A second cry, weaker than the first, a thin little sound that made the room go suddenly still.
âNo,â Valarr whispered, immediate and terrified, and you felt his chest heave against your back. âNo no no.â
The midwife worked fast, rubbing, clearing, coaxing life with practiced hands. âCome on, little one. Come on.â
The baby made another sound. Stronger.
Then, like a door finally flung open, the second cry rose full and indignant, loud enough to shame the first for ever being doubted.
Relief hit you so hard you started sobbing, the kind of sobbing that hurt your throat.
Valarrâs arms locked around you like iron.
âA princess,â the midwife said again, breathless now with triumph. âTwins.â
Valarr made a sound that was pure worship. He turned your face gently with shaking fingers and kissed you, careful, reverent, as if you were something holy and bruised.
âYou stayed,â he whispered against your lips. âYou stayed. You stayed with me.â
The midwife placed the first baby against your chest. A warm, slippery weight. Tiny fists. A furious little face pressed into you like they already knew you.
The second followed, squirming, loud and alive.
You could barely hold them. Your arms felt like they belonged to someone else.
Valarr slid in closer, curling his body around yours so all three of you were supported by him. His hands covered yours over the babies, steadying, protecting, claiming in the gentlest way.
He kissed your hair again, and his voice was ruined with love. âLook what you made,â he whispered. âLook what you gave me.â
You laughed weakly through tears. âTheyâre⌠loud.â
Valarr huffed a breath that might have been a laugh if it didnât break in the middle. âTargaryens,â he murmured, and kissed your brow. âPerfect.â
Outside the room, someone knocked softly, a cautious sound, as if the whole castle was afraid to disturb the miracle.
Valarr did not look away from you.
âGo away,â he said, quiet and absolute.
Then he lowered his head and pressed his cheek to yours, holding you and your children like he had been made for it.
âYou rest now,â he whispered. âIâve got you. All of you.â
