Adult MLP collectors back in the 2000s LOVED G3 toys. But they did not love Pinkie Pie. In fact, she was rather despised.

Pinkie Pie was symbolic of two common complaints among collectors:

1. “G3 releases the same ponies over and over.” Collectors saw this as a waste. Like just think of a new horse for god’s sake. (Obviously this problem only got worse as the generations went on, ha ha.)

2. “Too much pink.” The common consensus was that G3 was a much “pinker” toyline than G1. (And G2 I guess, but G2 wasn’t popular at the time.)

Anyway, the upshot of this is that this 2007 Pony Fair exclusive Pinkie Pie received a frosty reception from collectors who were like “Get this bitch out of my sight.”

This was a limited edition Pony Fair exclusive, the one pony of the year that WAS specifically designed for adult collectors. And Hasbro was like, “I KNOW! Pinkie Pie!” The complaints led to future Fair ponies being more interesting because the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

But also … little girls like more than pink! Most kids want a rainbow herd of ponies, even if they have a favorite color.

Big contender here for little “girl” who wanted more than pink! As a kid in the target demographic born 2002 & grew up with G3, even as a wee little child I HATED how everything was pink and you were hard-pressed to find red even in a rainbow!

The over saturation of pink as The Color in little girls’ media actually led to me HATING it violently for many many years, and I’ve only been just learning to get over that. But when you as a person are reduced to a color, it is genuinely demeaning to young afab people.
