In today's video, I will be testing twilight sky from KyMudworks. Overall, this is a slightly fluid glaze that creates a lovely mottled blue green coloration. The underlying clay body will have an effect on the exact coloration and patterning this glaze produces. This glaze breaks over texture in a more pronounced way on some clay bodies and less on others. When working with porcelain, take caution, as this glaze may be more fluid that it is on stoneware. This is a beautiful and dynamic glaze that despite looking slightly different on each clay body, still looked lovely in many unique ways. In today's video, I will be testing cinnabar from Mayco Colors. Overall, this is a vibrant, warm red glaze that in many cases reminds me of ketchup. This glaze is stable and showed no signs of movement or running on any of the tiles tested today. This glaze tends to break over textures, allowing textures to show through on your work. In today's video, I will be testing raspberry fizz from Speedball. Overall, this is a bright magenta pink that produced a satin finish on most of the tiles tested today. I suspect that firing this glaze a little hotter would lead to a glossier surface. While this is a lovely pink glaze, I must admit that compared to some of the other glazes I have tested from Speedball, this one was little underwhelming to me. Not that it isn’t a lovely color, with lots of potential applications, it just has a very solid surface with less mottling and dynamic movement than some of the others I have tested. I think I’d like to test this glaze with obnoxiously thick application, fired a little hotter to see if it does anything differently when applied and fired in such a fashion. Regardless, this is a stable magenta pink that I am sure you can make use of in your own studio. Thanks for tuning in this week. In today's video, I will be testing Fire Road by Penguin pottery, and showing you how to fix a glaze that is thick and lumpy with the deflocculant Darvan 7. Overall, with a little adjustment to the physical properties of this glaze to get it flowing smoothly, this is a gorgeous copper red brown glaze that creates dynamic shimmering metallic effects that break to a dark brown over areas of texture. The underlying clay body can slightly affect the color tone you get from this glaze, but all of the results I saw here today were lovely. With a small amount of extra effort, this is a beautiful and dynamic glaze that I am sure you can make use of in your own studio. This week I am working with a new clay body Roo from Kentucky Mudworks for a small limited edition project. All around, Roo from Kentucky Mudworks is a joy to work with. But honestly, that was as I expected because Kentucky Mudworks makes phenomenal clay bodies, that are functional for the creation process and in the quality of the final work. The subtle speckling and smooth surface of this clay make it uniquely attractive. Having speckles without constant disruptions to glazes, or the need to sand down any unglazed portion is a dream come true. In today's video, I will be testing floating blue from KyMudworks. Overall, this is a transparent blue glaze that will turn out brown in areas of thin application. I would recommend that you do your own testing to see if this glaze produces a craze and crackle effect on your particular clay body. The color of the underlying clay body seems to have great effect on the final tone of the blue this glaze produces. In today's video, I will be testing smoke from Mayco Colors. Overall, this is a stable glaze that comes out a dark khaki cream with hints of dark blue that breaks to a dark brown on most of the clay bodies I tested today. It forms varying degrees of small shimmering crystals across the tiles, and is glossy on most of the clays I tested here today. I could see this glaze a possibly having potential for experiments layering with other glazes, and I am sure you could have fun with this glaze in your studio. Thanks for tuning in this week. In today's video, I will be testing galaxy mist from Speedball. Overall, this is a gorgeous glaze that produces a blue, violet, red and white mottling pattern consistently over every clay body I tested today. It seems to perform best with a slightly thicker application. I am constantly impressed with the glazes that come from Speedball and this is no exception. It is highly impressive to get this much glaze interest and effect from a single glaze without any layering of other glaze. In today's video, I will be testing comet from KyMudworks. Overall, this is a stable glaze that performs well on all the clay bodies I tested today. The surface remains glossy and functional across the tiles, with the underlying clay body slightly altering the final color of the glaze. On lighter bodies, you get more of a light blue, and darker bodies produce warmer tones that are slightly darker and a bit more green. In today's video, I will be testing tropical teal from Mayco Colors. All around this glaze is a blue green with darker flecks that tends to lean more towards blue with thicker application. This glaze is stable, and did not show any signs of fluid movement or running on any of the tests here today. This glaze breaks well over texture in most circumstances, and has a glossy finish on every clay we tested today. This is a vibrant stable glaze that could be just what you need if you are needing this type of color in your studio.. Thanks for tuning in this week. In today's video, I will be testing living coral from Speedball. All around this glaze is an orange pink glaze that has a lovely fluid effect. Though this glaze is visibly fluid, it seems to prefer to pool rather than run. You might run into issue if your application is overly thick, but overall I would consider this stable. I love the warm, bright happy colors this glaze give on every clay body we tested here today. I have been consistently impressed with the Speedball line of glazes, and I’m happy to continue the trend, as this glaze exceeded my expectations once again. It seems to be a great fit on most clay bodies, and I am sure that you can find a use for it in your own studio. Thanks for tuning in this week. In today's video, I will be testing micro cerulean from Mayco Colors. All around this glaze is a denim blue that ranges from satin to glossy with varying degrees of crystal formation and crystal distinguishment from clay body to clay body. This glaze is mostly stable, with only a slight bit of downward motion that seems to pool more than run. If application is overly thick, I could see there potentially being running if you pushed the pooling over its gravitational limits. I fired my tiles on a straightforward ramp up, and natural cool down without hold. Due to the nature of crystalline forming glazes, you may be able to get more or less crystal growth with adjustments to holds and cooling speeds. This glaze performed well, though with slightly varying results across all the clay bodies I have tested today. The lovely color, stability and snowflake crystal formation make this a glaze that I am sure you can make use of in your own studio on non-food contact surfaces. Thanks for tuning in this week.
