When I was a teenager I also famously dismantled my bed and moved it to the basement storage, mattress and all, while my parents were out, and then I cleaned up the old backyard hammock (with a frame) and moved it to my bedroom. by that time I was old enough that my mom had no reason to come into my room and I was afforded a lot of privacy so it wasn't until we were moving out of that house that she and my uncle were helping back up my room and they found out I'd been sleeping in a hammock. they weren't even mad they were just confused. my mom was like, "where is your bed?" and I said in the basement and she said, "oh, alright" with a tone that suggested she was only relieved I hadn't burned it in the yard or something.

I did a lot of stuff like this and basically my parents' mistake was teaching me to safely and skillfully use power tools. yes they instilled me with valuable lifelong skills but also sometimes I'd be 15 and like, see a cool toilet at a yard sale and think to myself, "I bet I can install that without anyone noticing."
