Plum Puddingstone

Well I learned something tonight while writing this, I learned this rock exists. This rock is called a “Plum puddingstone”, an appropriate rock to feature to start the season heading into Christmas and the winter holidays. Plum pudding, with plums or other fruits suspended in an alcohol-bearing, egg-based mold, is a classic British holiday dessert. It even makes an appearance in the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol”.

Plum Pudding has been adopted as a historical name in chemistry – it describes an obsolete model for the organization of an atom where negatively charged electrons were surrounded by material of positive charge like the plums surrounded by the egg based mold.
