i have been meaning to make this post for a while as my blog is the biggest platform i have.
next week friday, on the 21’st of november, women in my country, South Africa, will be attempting to silence the nation before the G20 summit takes place.
why are we doing so you might ask?
South Africa’s femicide rate is six times higher than the global average; our country was considered the rape capital of the world.
28 091 women reported being victims of domestic violence-related crimes between the span of January & March 2025: that is 1 woman every 4 minutes enduring an atrocity at the hands of a man, just in the span of three months - and those are only the women that have reported, countless of these atrocities aren’t reported as women are berated and shamed when they do; and when they do so, nothing is done about it as the system continues to fail us.
every single day, another woman is murdered at the hands of someone she knows; murdered by a complete stranger; raped by a family member; raped by a complete stranger; abused by their partner - yet our government has done nothing to stop it. our president would rather clear up allegations of a “white genocide”, something completely false, than address an actual femicide occurring in the country he is supposed to be running.
i as a south african woman, am more likely to be raped, murdered, or abused than i am to get a job - a sickening and terrifying realisation that every woman in South Africa has been living with.
the women of South Africa are attempting to silence the nation in hopes that our government will finally take gender based violence & femicide serious & declare it a national disaster.
i understand that there is not much that one can do from across the world but simply spreading awareness and showing the women of South Africa that you stand with them is more than enough.

people be going live from literal crime scenes. like “hey besties so i’m outside ACE chemicals rn and idk what’s going on but i just saw a clown sprint past. anyone know what’s happening???” and everyone’s commenting like “GIRL GO HOME” and “go inside nowwwwww” and “live laugh leave gotham.”
you'd see youtube videos like “i lived in gotham for 2 days and here’s why i left” and it’s just footage of a man watching fire rain from the sky while eating a pretzel in pure silence.
twitter’s a HELLHOLE. people tweeting like “batman knocked over my hotdog stand again. this is the third time. i’m filing a restraining order” and “why does bruce wayne look like he hasn’t slept since 2003” and “if the joker had a podcast i’d listen. just being honest.”

you've learned to deal with dean's absences over the years, but somehow it never gets easier. especially now, with three daughters—ages eight, five, and three—and a mischievous eight-month-old son who has his daddy's green eyes and stubborn streak.

you nod against him, savoring the warmth of his strong frame, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath your cheek. "better now."
the sound of tiny footsteps breaks the moment, and your three daughters come racing into the kitchen screaming excitedly. dean's eyes crinkle at the corners, his mouth breaking into a wide, genuine smile as they swarm him, hugging his legs, giggling when he ruffles their hair, calling each one by their special nickname.
it's pure chaos, loud and messy and beautiful. you step back a little, watching him interact with your children—your chest tightening with an overwhelming surge of love.
the evening passes in a blur of baths and stories and bedtime cuddles. dean insists on handling bedtime, savoring every moment he's missed over the past two weeks.
