Alphys Cosplay Progress
So on today's episode of "Oh yeah I should probably actually show people the thing I'm working on": I've started putting together an Alphys cosplay!! c:
She's a character that I've been wanting to cosplay for a LONG time now, just never got around to it. And I decided I specifically want to cosplay teacher Alphys from Deltarune 👍
So I started by getting the outfit together. The khakis are just my own pants x'D but here's the rest of the outfit:
Eagle claw gloves: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CCNN5M4T
Dino slippers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXPBB6G
Overcoat: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YL62X1D
Necktie: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D5XX4HSB
Dress shirt: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1TK2Q4D
Originally, I had intended to just use yellow facepaint and a silly wig, maybe throw in some buck teeth prosthetics. Really giving wacky-professor type vibes
But I wasn't fully happy with it, and felt like I could push it more. Since I do NOT trust myself to be able to make a head from scratch, I decided to give a Jurassic Park dino mask a try :D
Luckily and embarrassingly, this child's toy fits my face perfectly 👌
Painted it to match the gloves + painted the glove nails, used my dremel to sand down the bottom lip to make room for her teefs, and made her head crests, teef and glasses out of EVA foam:
And then ordered some GREAT yellow gator-scale fabric to use for her spikes and tail.
Our Reptile Yellow Florida Gator 3D Embossed Vinyl Fabricis a perfect fabric for Upholstery, Accessories, Automotive Seating, Drapery, Costu
Originally I thought I wouldn't be able to paint over the gloves, they're the cheapy stinky rubber material that kitchen gloves are made of, and I thought it would just flake off. But nope!! It worked like a charm, so I got everything matching better color-wise, sealed everything with Mod Podge, then got some screws to secure the crests to the mask. Having to use my dremel for any reason puts the fear of God in me every time, I'm considering just investing in a hand drill at this point lmao
Cut off the inside pegs since I didn't end up needing the rubber goggle piece to hold the mask in place, and added eye mesh & some craft foam for her facial features c:
(Bonus pic: she watches)
The only downside right now is that, because of the foam pressing against the jaw joint + the eye mesh causing friction against part of the jaw piece, the mouth now barely opens at all x'D I'm hoping some low-friction polyethylene tape on those parts + reworking the chin & head straps will remedy the issue.
After that, I'll be getting some thin plexiglass to add to the glasses, attaching it to the face (probably with contact cement or smthn), then I'll make the tail :D SUPER excited to get this cosplay finished 🙏
