last night I had this dream that my family and i were getting ready to go on a long journey, and i had to pack for myself and my little brother, and all i had were clothes i could find from the house i lived in as a teenager. and at one point right before we left, i remember going outside and stepping up onto this high retaining wall and there was this piece of land, like park-sized, that i had never seen before.
and i started walking to the edge of the area, which was raised up from all the neighborhood around it, and i wanted to look off the ledge and see the view. but i was so distracted and marveled by how untouched everything looked. the ground was covered in leaves and grass and roots that had obviously never been trampled or cut or anything, and it was bright and sunny and there were dew covered spiderwebs between the lower branches, and you could just tell that no people came here, and had not come here for a long time if ever, and my feet just almost crunched and sprung with every step on the newness of the ground, and it was the most intensely peaceful feeling I had ever experienced in a dream.Â
i’m actually getting kind of teary eyed writing about it now. it was just so pure and unhurt and just, this slice of the earth that had not only never done anything wrong, but also wasn’t punished by humans like so much other space is. it resonated very deeply with me and I think it means something profound in my core. i think it is honestly a perception of nature, but also of humans themselves. sometimes i wish so deeply to be untouched and allowed to grow in every way in every direction, and i want so badly for so many voices to be echoes, and to find peace beyond the complexity of humankind.
