“I am Maxwell,” he said, pretty much exhausting his knowledge of English. “I am lost.” He hoped the man understood and could help. 

The engineer beamed. “Hey, mah name’s Maxwell too! Well, lemme help ya out. D’ you remember where yer trahin’ t'go?” He wasn’t sure the kid understood, if all else failed he might be able to track someone down to translate. But first he had an idea. Grabbing a stack of paper he drew out a crude picture of Maxwell with a taller man and woman. “Parents?” He scribbled a room with a bed, showing that to him too. “Maybe y'got a room? ‘R a house?”

Max watched the child draw, frowning when he realized this kid lived in New York. "Yer a long ways away from home, aintcha?" He looked over the pictures. "Uh... Does yer mutti'r vatti work here? Lahke..." He started drawing various classes, all looking like a six year old drew them out. "Do they look lahke any of these sometahmes?" That's gotta be the only reason this little guy was here... Right?

Max glared at him. Well it could've been worse. A muddied leg, no big deal. "Jane ya dumbass." he snatched his leg. "... Thank ya. Kahnda hard t'stay up with jus' one. C'mon." He started for the banks, pulling himself up and putting his leg back. "What th'hell is with you soldiers'n wantin' t' dunk an old man?"

He shrugged. “Your fault goin’ boatin’ with th’ enemy. …..CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!” he roared before rowing away. 

"Jackass!!" The old man yelled before grumbling under his breath and starting the swim back to shore. "Last tahme he gets any o' mah beers too...."
