This here is an Edith Piaf record printed onto an X Ray slide from St. Petersburg circa 1950. Called Roentgenizdat in Russian, pirated records of Western Music were copied onto discarded X Ray plates stolen from Medical Waste Facilities. This was a highly illegal yet common practice in Soviet Russia during the 50's and 60's, due the rare availability of Vinyl as a material and the desire of the average person to experience what was happening beyond the bounds of their insular and government controlled borders. After scouring the Internet to find this record, needless to say I was so excited to see it arrive safe and well!
