Simon yearning for eternity until a simple day Grace mentions gay people and Simon breaks down. Simon supressing his feelings because Eden was all about reproducing and nature until they lost all hope when the tree died, before it turned into borderline death ideation. Eden being a cult of fertility before becoming suicidal hopeless maniacs. The humanity that was left viewing gay people as useless, because they could not contribute to expanding the frail population. Simon being afraid of Grace's reaction because even the gentlest of hands Simon knew condemned the idea of homosexuality. Avoiding interacting with Grace when he's scared he'd let his feelings out. Simon bursting to tears realizing that at least some of Grace's universe's humanity is more than accepting of gay people. Just... Simon with internalized homophobia.
