So first impressions from that first watch…

I was very into the core four concept (even though by then the team had expanded) as the core four spend a large chunk of the episode together.

I shipped McDanno from that rooftop scene. Yes really. That’s literally all it took.

I thought Lou Grover was HPD or something.

My impression of Jerry was he was the tech guy civilian. Needless to say I got quite the shock later on seeing his actual introduction in season 4.

I had no idea who Max was as I’d missed his earlier ME related scenes so I assumed he was a friend of Jerry’s. I also thought he was hilarious.

Abby I assumed was a member of the team but I missed the relationship between her and Chin despite his frantic calling for her.

I was totally confused by Gabriel beyond - he was a bad guy who would have bled out by now.

Gotta love writers willing to go with a Butch/Sundance homage they must know 90 percent of the audience won't get. It's like they created these scenes for me personally, and I am appropriately grateful.

I could have lived without the whole B-plot with Quinn, the character I can't bring myself to care about because I know she won't be around long, and Adam, the character who long overstayed his welcome (if he ever had one).

Chin never got fired from HPD but was still faced with a ton of suspicion and scrutiny so when Danny transferred over they became partners thanks to Danny testifying against his training officer back in Jersey. They assumed he would be the perfect person to keep an eye on him.

Because neither Chin or Danny are well liked, they’re assigned to a case with very few leads. John Mcgarrets murder.

Luckily for them they end up working incredibly well together and with Kono’s help take down Hesse. So to avoid them getting too close to the truth, the governor gives the three of them the task force.

Meanwhile Steve wasn’t sent away after his Mother’s “murder” unlike Mary. Instead, John went off the deep end from the sheer insanity of Doris’ death and dragged Steve down with him, training Steve to be a killer and hunt down those who were evading the law (ala dexter).
