THAT WAS ANOTHER PARALLEL BETWEEN HER AND BRUCE. THEY BOTH CRAVED LOVE BUT NEVER FELT WORTHY OF IT AND FEARED IT WILL MAKE THEM LOSE WHAT REMAINED OF THEIR BROKEN IDENTITIES. THEY BOTH PUNISH THEMSELVES BY NEVER LETTING ANYONE GET CLOSE TO THEIR TRUE SELVES.

Frank Miller’s iconic vision of Batman’s future went poorly for Selina Kyle, who ended up as the lonely matron of a high end escort service. It was the first of several troubling depictions of Selina/Catwoman from Miller, and this scene with the Joker soon escalated into a brutal assault that left Selina battered and hogtied. Even worse, this assault was wholly in the service of furthering Batman’s story; he ended up battling the Joker to the death soon after, fueled by his anger over his cruel treatment of Selina. She didn’t appear again until the end of the series, and had no further role in the book.
